The Flame Is Love (1979 TV Movie)

Charming little period piece
3 November 2003
In a word, I liked this movie so much, I would buy it immediately if it were available on DVD.

Linda Purl is great as an ingénue, who coming from America to France, is totally overwhelmed by a different culture, which is intensified by her always having been very protected back home, but now finds herself exposed to some of the worst that humanity is prone to.

Looking at another review on this site of this movie, I am always amazed how every movie seems to attract attention so far on the negative and on the positive, which makes one wonder whether the people commenting saw the same movie. Differences in taste, obviously. Ain't it great? As the French would say Vive la difference! ;-)

I was just able to finally buy a DVD of this little gem.

A charming story of a sweet, young love!
26 October 2003
Angelina Jolie in a role showing a charming sweetness to an even higher degree than in 'Playing by Heart'. The courtship plays out against a somewhat contrived background of Italian family rivalry, somewhat reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet, but with a Hollywood happy end, even though with heavy handed ethnicity thrown in. If this movie was available on DVD I would buy it in a New York minute ;-). Fun entertainment for the whole family. No doubt I am prejudiced since I really like Angelina, but then what's not to like about her (forget about her personal life)? Charming.

Sweet love story with an interstellar twist
3 September 2003
I bought this on laser disc years ago, and it has always been a favorite of mine. Many friends who watched it with me agreed. Anyone with just one romantic bone in their body will enjoy the girl boy interplay, especially if you like science fiction (as I do). The unusual pet they bring with them adds greatly to the story. The two 'alien' girls are cute, the effects are quite good and Keenan Wynn, in his 174th movie, his last role, plays a very likeable and understanding, openminded grandfather. I found it to be great fun and when I realized today that someone really tried to badmouth it badly, thought I had to give that a counter. It is not a cerebral piece, but most movies aren't. I am happy that I found it because I have never seen any advertising for it, which I found somewhat surprising. Also, it is something that kids can enjoy with its wholesomeness.

High Crimes (2002)
Totally illogical plot
26 April 2003
Though the acting is first rate, to be expected from a first class cast, the logic used is so badly flawed, it severely impacted the enjoyment of this movie for me. The only thing uncertain is, whether the writer simply has never heard of, much less understands, logic, or whether he used this as a gimmick to muddy the waters to the point where no one would be able to predict the outcome, BECAUSE of the extensive use of illogic. I would give it at most 2 stars of five, and that high only because I really like Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd (not necessarily in this order ;-) ) (Why did they agree to make such a non sequitur dreck?)

Out of Sync (2000 TV Movie)
Amusing, sweet and relaxing
14 January 2003
Nothing heavy and deep, but wholesome entertainment if you are in the mood for something light and funny. If you happen to be a fan of either Karin Wuhrer (Salin)[formerly of the series 'Sliders', and in 'Hotblooded'] and or Gail O'Grady [lately in 'Another's Woman's Husband', and the new series 'American Dreams'] (as I am), then this is something you don't want to miss. Looks like some people are just too heavy handed to appreciate something that is just light fare, and should be taken as such. ;-)

A romantic comedy
9 December 2001
A sweet story of first love, emoting Romeo and Juliet in a modern American setting. The whole thing is played as a farce, as between the grownups who are trying to (over)protect their children. Angelina Jolie gives a totally charming performance, that resonates with one's romantic side (if one has that). If you like the actress, you have to have this movie. A fun movie without any message other than, that love is all there is. If it was available on DVD I would buy it in a minute!

Fabulous combination of mystery, romance and humor.
26 July 2000
Saw a rental of this and immediately ordered the DVD. It is absolutely outstanding and offers something for just about every taste! The cast did a great job, all of them being totally believable, yet often switching from one convincer to the opposite.

Highlander: The Raven (1998–1999)
