Great French-Canadian children series from the 60's
10 May 2006
I grew up watching this program on TV as a child. I was more than happy to see it finally released on DVD. I can finally show it to my kid who likes it as much as I used to.

The half hour program in french was done in the tradition of "comedia dell'arte". This is mostly physical comedy that centers around a core of four central characters; Paillasson (naive but good hearted), Friponneau (the prankster), Monsieur Bedondaine (the busy businessman) and Dame Plume (cooks a special kind of "galette").

They don't make that kind of kid's program anymore. There's nothing educational and the main purpose is good clean fun. I read in an interview with the actor that plays Friponneau that they had so much fun doing this show that a strong bond developed between the actors and every day after the shooting, they would all go together for diner.

The DVD contains five color episodes and one in black and white.

They could have easily added another disk since you can't find episodes in another format anywhere. Maybe they will release some if this one sells.

This is not a good DVD if you want to teach french to your kids.

I lost interest. Try to tell you too many things at once.
21 August 2000
This another movie that try to tell you too many things at the same time. It's set in 1931 when Roosevelt unleashed a program to give affordable theater for every american and it centers around Orson Welles trying to get a leftist play off the ground. It's about politics, union, money and power. A bold endeavor for the director Tim Robbins. While funny and intelligent at first, you get the sense where this is going and it gets pretty hard to hold your attention. Midway through I lost interest. Maybe because I didn't care much for any of the characters. Don't get me wrong, I love Tim Robbins. "Bob Roberts" was good and "dead man walking" was great. I give this one a 6.

If you're a Kaufman fan, you'll probably like it.
24 July 2000
I'm not a big fan of Andy Kaufman. I guess his quirky sense of humor was fun for a couple of minutes. Jim Carey does a great job here but it's not enough to sustain my interest for a whole two hours. I guess die hard Andy's fan will like this one. As for me it's not worth more than 6.

One of my all time favorite
18 January 2000
This is one movie I've enjoyed seeing over and over. It's one of my all time favorite. The story is pretty simple; A filmmaker runs out of money while shooting in Portugal. He goes looking for his producer in Los Angeles to find out what is going on. This one of the most beautifully shot movie in black and white I've seen and it helps to set the overall atmosphere of the film. The cast is great and the story flows right along. Apart from a few lenghty scenes (wich is why I gave it a 9), you won't be disappointed. If you're interested at all about movie making don't miss this one.

This movie is bearable only because of the great visual effects.

This is one movie you wished they spent more time (and money) on the script. Except for Eleonor, the other characters aren't much there. They are part of the set, wich is visually great. As a matter of fact, this movie is bearable only because of the great visual effects .

The best James Bond
15 December 1999
Looked at this gem again last week. No doubt in my mind this is the best James Bond movie of the lot. Everything here holds up to make a great action movie; the plot, the car chase ,the humor and a great ensemble of character. I would see this one again over any Bond picture.

Starts up fine but falls short
14 October 1999
This is another case of a movie falling flat after the characters are in place. It starts up fine but falls short as you can see where the story is going. I really enjoyed the first twenty minutes of this comedy. You get the sense that these guys are trapped at "initech", the software company they work for. But after that it just doesn't get any better. I give it a 5.

A movie full of surprises with a great cast of characters
13 September 1999
If you're looking for an offbeat comedy, look at this one. This is a movie full of surprises with a great cast of characters (Bill Murray and Jason Swartzman especially). Many times I found myself laughing out loud at the turn of events as

Murray and Swartzman battle one another for the attention of

a sixth grade teacher they both fell in love for.

Feel good movie worth a look
28 August 1999
I was a bit reluctant to give 'Rudy' a look since I'm not a great football fan. But I gave it a try and I was more than pleased with it. Although it's a bit one dimensional, you cannot help but feel for this guy who's dream is to play for the Notre Dame team.A great feel good movie.
