The Simpsons: Coming to Homerica (2009)
Season 20, Episode 21
3/10
Still very disappointing.
30 May 2009
I caught this episode again recently and I have to (once again) modify my opinion and lower my vote to a firm 3. I just don't think this episode rises to the standards of previous years.

The first half was good and had some really great gags. However, I think the writer attempted to make a statement that was clumsy and ham-handed. If I want lame and preachy I will watch "The Family Guy". Perhaps the writer of this episode should get a job with that show. In any case I will say it again, I hope they don't ask this guy back unless he is working with their staff writers.

I have not missed a single episode of The Simpsons since 1989 and have very, very rarely been disappointed. I am happy to say that the latest season was every bit as entertaining as ever. I also think that there are enough good ideas that the show could easily go on for several more years or at least as long as the voice talent agrees to come back every year and they continue to hire better writers than this guy.

Tastes vary and I know others would probably disagree but I won't comment on that as that is best left to the message board where it belongs.

Star Trek (2009)
1/10
What was the point?
6 May 2009
Looks to me like vapid and bereft of any talent writing and direction has guaranteed the death of the Star Trek franchise.

Why even bother using the Star Trek name and characters? Those of us who have loved the franchise for the past 40 years are basically being thrown under the bus. It seems more to the point that Mr. Abrams was looking to score a quick "summer blockbuster" buck.

The movies target audience is 8 to 18 year olds that know nothing about the original series or movies. I can't believe there is a sequel planed. Oh well there was after all sequels to such masterpieces as "The Fast and the Furious". So why not the new and improved(?) Star Trek.

Most assuredly the Star Trek franchise goes the way of Alien, Predator, Terminator and Robo Cop.

Congrats Mr. Abrams!!!

That whirring , helicopter like sound you hear is Gene Roddenberry spinning in his grave.

Dated? Yes... But, worth a look.
7 February 2004
When you view this movie you should keep in mind that it was written and filmed in the early 1970s. Pretty dated but real damn funny for it's time.

For those of you that are in your early twenties, it should give some of you an idea of what your parents thought was funny and in your face back then.

Most people didn't have cable TV and those that did didn't have 100 stations to choose from and it was 7 years before Mtv was invented. Most of us were relegated to watching 3 channels if you watched TV at all.

This is also why anyone over 40 will tell you the first 5 years of SNL are better than all of the others combined.

The best segments are the Cooking Show, Brown 25 and KOKO the Clown.

In any case you may find humor in some of the segments or not. It is still worth watching from a nostalgic or historical perspective.

Pitch Black (2000)
5/10
A huge pile of dung, not even worth the price of a rental.

A very predictable film that should appeal to pre-adolescent boys or someone starved for entertainment because of the gore factor and cleavage shots. About 30 minutes into this piece of c**p I was cheering for the monsters. Poorly written, acted and directed. I could not believe the moron at the video store compared it to Alien. Alien is a sci-fi classic. This steaming pile is a B movie at best that Alan Smithee would be mortified to be associated with. If you are older than 12 or have an IQ above 85 don't waste your time or money. I did not think it was possible to make a movie worse than Sphere yet they were able to top themselves with this one.

It Blows.......
22 August 1999
I graduated HS in 1978 and I can tell you that in my home town if you were over 14 and obsessed with KISS you would have been considered a complete feeb. This movie did have a few good comic moments (very few).

Tastes vary and I attended many concerts in those days and I can tell you KISS was not on my or my friends radar. I can't think of a single person that would have risked life and limb or worse being grounded to see them.

Definitely not "Dazed and Confused" a far better period movie.

The writers were probably the same people I mentioned earlier and that would tend to explain this film.

Check the dollar bin for the DVD.
