Piazza pulita (1973)
Badly dubbed nonsensical rubbish
I paid for a ticket and managed to sit through this stinky badly paced badly dubbed overacted incomprehensible amateurish attempt at a movie when it played the Vogue Theater in Vancouver in 1973. To this day I still kick myself for not walking out but it was raining and the bus wasn't due for 2 hours. I am reviewing it here because I've decided in 40 years of avid movie going - and movie making, this is the worst movie I ever saw. The plot as I recall involved some gangster double crossing and looked like it was all shot in and around a gravel pit or someplace. The costumes and dressings were bizarre Dubbed dialogue was as grating as could be. I don't remember what the photography was like but overall It was truly a painful viewing experience
Alice (2009)
Why did they bother! A needless wast of money and time - some fool's money. My time.
I am STILL kicking myself for wasting 3 hours of my life watching this cheesy low budget tripe. I finally gave up part way through part 2 and switched to Discovery channel. First of all. WHY BOTHER? Have they not seen the trailers for Tim Burton's version? Did they really think they could beat him to the punch with corny discount sets, long, (really long) indulgent dialogue scenes and one turgid static shot after another coupled with at most, average or even worse, special effects, since ... well - since Tin Man - which while also painfully slow and full of confused looking actors wasn't entirely cheap looking and was much nicer to look at. Was it just my TV or were most of the scenes muddy and badly lit? - especially in part 2.
Other than Matt FrewerV all the actors all looked to be wondering what they were doing there. Are Kathy Bates and Colm Meaney THAT hard up they need to show up in this sort of thing? What a waste. The whole thing felt like a student film by an overindulgent, desperate film-maker wannabe except there are better student film directors out there who wouldn't have wasted the opportunity by trying to compete with Hollywood. Like Tin Man it had the jerky, disjointed narrative of a film that is leaning wholly on " style" and some cool shots instead of content, narrative and just plain old, engaging story telling. The average episode of Law And Order is a lot more accomplished. THUMBS BOTH WAY DOWN
Willard (2003)
A sure cult classic for good
I finally saw this movie and it has got to be one of the best unsung movies of the last decade. Great acting all round. Crispin Glover is a real original. There just isn't anyone like him acting today. The mood and tonality of the film are fantastic. So is the music. I loved the opening title theme. ( Where the heck is the sound track album?) The movie looks amazing. It's a great and original portrayal of new York . I LOVED all the wide angle lenses. The best since Amelie! This is a must have for any serious film aficionado. Original and fun. My only minor quibble would be a couple of the CGI rat shots but it's mostly first rate. More movies please Glen Morgen!!!
