10,000 Black Men Named George (2002)
Excellent
A very moving and thoughtful film. The script, direction and performances of Dutton and Brauher were exceptional. This is a part of history most people don't know much about and Townsand really pulled off an emotionally satisfying story. four stars
Cidade de Deus (2002)
Amazing
One of the most amazing films in the last ten years. Truly a work of genius and imagination. Makes you want to see it again just to look at the camera work and direction. A very important piece of cinematic work. I can't recommend it enough.
Lumumba (2000)
Factual and a story that needed to be told.
This film was a revelation. Well directed, a clear and consise story and a political message that can translate to any country. The film shows a director at the top of his form. Puts "JFK" to shame by the sheer weight of the proceedings. This is a story of liberation deferred. It's a story of the Congo but it is also the story of Africa after liberation. A powerful film that anyone who cares about the destiny of a country should see. Excellent!
