As producer, Julian Blaustein was able to contribute a great deal to the documentary. His explanations and opinions will be of interest to all who remember and appreciate TDTESS. He also goes into depth about many of the challenges faced in the making of the film.
Many of the topics discussed give much insight to the origin of the story and the evolution of the film, its music and cast. So if you love TDTESS don't miss Making the Earth Stand Still.
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001)
Great art; Great technology - it put me to sleep!
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within is a remarkable film. Animated people act, move and look like people. They even have skin imperfections like real people. Human characters have hair that blows in the breeze -- you can even see individual strands of hair. Wow! But once one is finished appreciating the art and technology, boredom sets in rather quickly. This is probably a great flick for kids, but grownups beware!
A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
An adult "children's" film which fails to entertain!
This is a difficult film to comment on because I believe Steven Spielberg is a great director, and I love his films. But simply put Artificial Intelligence just doesn't cut it. This film seems to have many meanings and great special effects, but after the first third of the film (referred to by many critics as act one) I found myself squirming in my seat and checking my wristwatch -- boredom had set in. It seems like Spielberg has tried to take a fairy tale and make it work for adults. Well, I don't think it works! Movies are supposed to entertain or educate, and sometimes do a bit of both. Artificial Intelligence does neither. Artificial Intelligence fails to entertain. Save your money.
Meet the Parents (2000)
Strictly for teen-agers!
This film just doesn't make it. It starts off fine, and Ben Stiller is a delight throughout, but here isn't enough story so we end up with a bunch of silly gags. DeNiro is disappointing and spends half the movie making grimaces. This film is strictly for the under twenty set. If you're over 40 skip the movie and go for a walk.
