Outward Bound (1930)
10/10
Disquieting and Eerie Early-Talkie.
2 July 2004
A group of assorted persons find themselves on a ship bound for no conceivable destination. Little do they know, that they are all dead and sailing towards judgment in this evocative and moving psychological drama about life and death.

The script-which was based off a broadway play-is very well done. The final results are still stagey and the whole movie seems to take place in one room, but because of the brisk pace and timeless themes of life, death, and what happens after you die there is never a dull or slow moment in the movie. It's dramatization of life after death is mesmerizing and still holds up after all these years. This is Leslie Howard's (Gone with the Wind) first American film, he acted in the stage version of this film, so his acting tends to be on the melodramatic side. Of the young couple, Helen Chandler (Dracula) gives the better performance. Douglas Fairbanks Jr. brings down Chandler's tragic intensity and the young couple story line with his over-the-top performance. As for the rest of the cast, some performances are better than others, but no performance gets too melodramatic to the point where it's distracting from the great story or the eerie, almost scary, atmosphere. I saw this movie on TCM recently and I noticed that it is not available on DVD or VHS and I think that's a real shame. Overall: a very thought-provoking, atmospheric, early-talkie drama. Would be great for rainy days. Beryl Mercer (Public Enemy), Lyonal Watts, Alison Akipworth, and Slec B. Francis also star.

One of the best forgotten film of the 30's
28 March 2004
Richard Barthelmess, Helen Chandler, David Manners, Elliott Nugent, and John Mack Brown star in this excellent psychological war drama directed by William Dieterle about a handful of WWI veterans who do nothing but drink booze and run around Paris with flapper, Nikki (Chandler, in an elegant and moving performance).

What makes this film so special is that it's mood of despair of hopelessness has held up very well over all these years. Plus, the movie's bleak atmosphere and subject matter helps. Sometimes the performances (David Manners) and dialogue comes off as a little dated, but that is to be expected from a movie this old. It is very easy to overlook; and that is really the only bad thing about the movie.

It's a shame that this movie isn't released on DVD or even VHS (thank goodness for TCM). It's a real forgotten gem of early 1930's cinema that hopefully won't remain forgotten for long.

Carrie (2002 TV Movie)
A Very Good Remake!
31 August 2003
I know ALOT of people are going to hate this movie, but give it a chance, because it really is worth at least a look.

The original Carrie is a classic but it is dated and I thought this Carrie was more in the "now" which I liked very much!

It was more faithful to the book and another thing that I thought was better about this one was the bullies who picked on Carrie. I loved Nancy Allen's performance in the original Carrie, she set the standard for the teen blonde bitches, but I thought the actress Emilie De Ravin who played Chris in this one had alittle more depth and made you hate her even more and feel more sorry for Carrie, the same goes for the actor who plays her boyfriend Tommy.

The actress who played Carrie in this one (I can't remember her name off the top of my head) did a good job. Not really better than Sissy, but not worse either.

Overall, I know some people are just going to hate this movie no matter what they put on the screen, so you be the judge and check it out!

KICK @$$!!!
17 August 2003
I was a big fan of the friday the 13th series, but I had never seen a freddy movie. So I had no idea what to expect from Freddy, but judging from the previews this looked very cool!

This movie was AWESOME! Without a single doubt It is The Most Entertaining Movie of The Summer!!! Everything about it is awesome! The death scenes were really cool and this movie was alot better than the friday the 13th Jason X, not that it was a bad movie, but I thought the whole Jason in space idea was a bad one.

Also, I read someone saying that they thought Kelly Rowland did a really bad job at acting, well I thought she did a pretty decent job, much better than other singer turned actors!

When I went to see this movie there was ALOT of very little kids there, and I mean much younger than 10!!! This is not a movie for anyone younger than the 16, It has ALOT of Blood, Drugs, Sex, Nudity, etc. Parents, leave the very little kids at home!

Overall, I think this movie is the comeback of the slasher flick genre!!! And it's about time!!!

Black Sash (2003)
One of the weakest shows the WB has ever produced! Nothing but a bunch of pretty faces with no talent!
11 July 2003
The subject says it all about this trashy teen drama, Black Sash! Thank God it is gone!!! It had almost nothing going for it expect having Corey Sevier running with his shirt off! The only breakout talent of the show was Sarah Carter. And Drew Fuller was good, but he was very smart and left this piece of sh*t and went to Charmed. All in all a very sad look at where teen drama on TV is heading to!!!

Blonde (2001)
10/10
Should have been on HBO or Showtime! See it For Poppy Montgomery!
7 July 2003
I'm a BIG Marilyn Monroe fan! So When Joyce Carol Oates' book Blonde came out I thought that it was something very special! It truly was an amazing book, that not every writer working today can write. Joyce Carol Oates did a great job, even if it was or wasn't what Marilyn/Norma Jean really was thinking.

However this mini-series (even though it is 4 hours long) it very watered down and due to the fact that it is on CBS and a lot of the graphic content in the book, which was very effective, would never air on CBS. I truly believe that "Blonde" would have been MUCH better had it aired on HBO or Showtime. I don't mean they should have turned it into softcore porn, but as someone before said "This is a G rated version of a R rated life". It just was not as effective as the book.

The only thing the mini-series had going for it was Poppy Montgomery, who I think should have gotten an Emmy for her work as Marilyn/Norma Jean! No other actress has done Marilyn as much justice as Poppy did and it is a real shame that she didn't have better material to work with, but she does her very best! The rest of the cast gives good performances.

I really hope this gets released on DVD soon!!!!!!

Overall, the book was better, but it is still worth a watch for Poppy's AMAZING performance as Marilyn!!!

Needs Time To Grow
19 June 2003
I love Wanda! There is no doubt that she is very very funny! I watched her on comedy central a lot and she was amazing and so funny, so I was very excited when I heard that she was getting her own show!

But her show is indeed "Wanda". It is the real deal, but It seems very watered down, possibly censored. Normally there is 2 or 3 VERY GOOD laughs in each episode that keep me coming back for the first season and I think that the supporting players need time to grow. They just fall in the background as of now.

So the second season should be something to look forward to!!!

Not Bad.
23 June 2001
The Only reason I watched it was because I'm a Fan of Mercedes McNab so I didn't really care what it was like as long as she was in it. But when I watched it I was really glad i did.

The guy from Saved by the bell was alright and Mercedes had some very very funny parts, but The rest of the cast you just don't really care about (Mainly Blank and that really big guy) due to how stupid they are!!

The plot was funny, and the acting was cool, so if you need to kill two hours and have fun doing it, check it out you won't be upset!!!

Air Force One (1997)

The best movie of 1997!!!
7 August 2000
I saw this movie at my dad's apartment on a big screen TV!! I saw little parts of it before when i was younger, but not much because i was too young. Now I just saw the whole thing and my GOD it was amazing!!!!!! Ford is funny and great as the President and Oldman knows how to make an evil character his own!! His best part are when he kills the "Unarmed Woman" (which is the only part that made me scream), and when he is talking to the little girl. The movie itself seemed so real, how they show no mercy for any of the characters (cause a good 95% of the cast when killed)!!! This is a must see for ANYONE!!!!!!! **** out of ****

Passport to Paris (1999 Video)
Better than most of the Oslen movies!
8 January 2000
Most of the Olsen movies are about parents getting together which is getting very boring and now they have a new plot which is a pretty cool one! They get sent to Paris and hate what they see until they meet two boys on mopeds and they start haveing fun! The acting is alright, but the way the teenage french boys talk is enough to drive one insane! At the end they have some really funny bloppers, the music is wonderful. Better than Billbroad Dad which I thought was the best until this one came out! I hope Mary-Kate and Ashley make more movies like this!!! Passport to Paris 9/10

Escape from Atlantis (1997 TV Movie)
10/10
Better than it looks!
6 January 2000
Escape from Atlantis is a action packed movie with great story and Wonderful actors (mostly Mercedes McNab)! You really need to see it twice to really get into it!

The actors are fine. McNab is the whole movie along with Roper, Bloom,Speakmen, but Wilson is awful!

The movie is really good. The Action rocks and the blood and gore is not out of place! Pretty cool Computor effects and has a good plot and great screenplay!

See this movie!!! 8/10
