André Hazes: Zij Gelooft in Mij (1999)
Cool subject, wasted oppurtunities
Don't believe the hype. Andre Hazes is a perfect subject for a documentary, but the makers delivered a documentary which is far from well crafted. The big events like the disaster in Benidorm or his near divorced are shown for 10 minutes and left me with a feeling of dissatisfaction. There was so much more in this. Plus I was annoyed by the shots of 'Lonely Andre', suggestive filmlanguage showing the singer relaxing in and around the house. Stuff like we all do, reading in the garden, watching tv etc. Is that what makes a lonely man? I didn't think so. Andre Hazes himself wasn't completely satisfied with the end result as well, in an interview he stated that not the shooting of the movie but the final editing was not what the makers could have a done with it. I hate to say it, but this failed as a documentary, for it didn't show a story or a development, but only short clips that leaves u wishing for more information on subjects as his near divorce or his troubles in Benidorm.
Faces of Death IV (1990)
It ain't half bad, kids!
This movie is, according to most viewers, a gruesome showcase on accidental deaths on videotape. In my opinion, it's a 'Best of'-horror catalogue by some kids who were to damn lazy to write a plot, but did have the tools to make an okay horrorflick. And the makers has a good sense of humor as well, check out the bungee jump with the short elastic or the giant mutated leeches (thanks to a *drumroll* nuclear plant!). Please, do you really believe anybody died for real in this movie? Think again. The greatest joke is not that the makers want to believe you it's all real, but that most suckers do. As fake as part 1, 2 and 3. But funnier. Even though the the Yeti-footage in Faces of Death 3, a.k.a. Fear, was a hoot as well.
American Graffiti (1973)
Dark
This movie was way 2 dark 2 win may sympathy. Sometimes, no, most of the time I couldn't see what the hell was goin' on. Maybe some actors got sick during the shoot and George Lucas decided to film the scenes with people who looked liked them...when all the lights were out. Sometimes I got the feeling I was 'watching' a radio-show. Not in the last place due to the soundtrack that never stops. I like George Lucas, I love Star Wars, but this movie just didn't do it for me. Dazed and Confused deals much better with the subject. Mind you, I'm not American, so it might be that much of the Americana and nostalgia only appeals to Americans. Maybe not.
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
What's wrong with this movie?
Absolutely nothing! In my humble opinion, this is the most entertaining film ever made. The plot involves a mall, a few survivors and more bloodthirsty zombies than you ever saw in a movie.Comparable to a rollercoaster ride, this movie is non-stop action for well over 2 hours. Talk about never a dull moment. After this movie I compared every other horror-movie with Dawn, mind you I saw it at an early age. Unfortunately, it didn't get better than this gorefest. I'm only 24, but...do I dare say it... they don't make 'em like they used to. No CGI can compare to the realness of Tom Savini's make-up efx. There are different versions in circulation, but the European version is my favorite. Due to Goblin's incredible cool soundtrack. Yes folks, this movie has it all gore, humor, action, great performances, a break-neck pace and an urge that make u wanna see this puppy over and over again. It truly doesn't get any better than this.
