Thinking Required
14 December 2020
There are people out there with short attention spans and don't want to think or analyze deeply or use their intellect, thus their negativity. A show for intelligent people who can sit still.

Rhoda: Rhoda's Wedding (1974)
Season 1, Episode 8
10/10
Viewing this from 2020 perspective
16 January 2020
I came across this via some article I saw on Facebook, saying how memorable it was. I have forgotten about this. The video is on You Tube, I decided to watch. I remember it is about a Jewish family in New York City, mainly on woman, Rhoda, besides the cast. I thought of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, but Mrs Maisel takes place maybe 10+ years before. This had me comparing Rhoda / Valerie Harper, with NY accent, looks and antics with Rachel Broshanen, her looks, speech and antics, Two actresses, two characters years apart. I don't know if Rachel is familiar with Rhoda or the writers ever had Rhoda in mind, both situations with similar people in similar places. Perhaps Rhoda wasn't a comedian on the show but Valerie was doing comedy.

Looking at the gritty New York scenes on the subway and in the street as Rhoda scrambles to her wedding. I had the thought of The Odd Couple of which reruns are still on. Behold, I saw the actress who played Pushover Page as Rhoda's neighbor in the hallway. I am thinking at the time Felix and Oscar are living in the same neighborhood.

A lot of phone routines in this episode, way before the cellphone. Imagine how not as funny this would have been with the cellphone. The color of the phone, piss yellow, people don't have cellphones that color. Much of it seems timeless.

I have thought about perhaps the Seinfeld Crew or the crew from Friends moving into Rhoda and Brenda's apartment. I know the Simpson voice, but seeing Judy Cavanaugh on the show, seems to be as if a secret character mysteriously came live out of the cartoon with that voice.

Like I have said, it has been a long long time since I have seen this. Worth watching again, still funny. See it online.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel: Marvelous Radio (2019)

Ruined by knocking a dead person, since they could not use a living person of today in the script.
25 December 2019
The Phyllis Schlafly , mention, was not cool. One thing to disagree with someone, another to beat them up while they are dead, leaving false impressions. Perhaps she was replacing a current politician, that they could not fit into the script and many in Showbiz, don't like, so they beat up poor Phyllis. Not Cool at all. This ruined it.

Need to See This To Understand The End
25 December 2019
This was a great episode. Lets say, we have to see this one through to understand the last episode better. Watching on 2nd viewing, I could connect the dots. Perhaps this connects to next season...

The Irishman (2019)
7/10
Scorcese Gangster Universe Later Chapters
28 November 2019
Just finished watching The Irishman on Netflix. Nice to see a regular dramatic movie for a change. Yes, for today's world, perhaps real acting is too slow, but it is real acting and directing. Martin Scorcese, makes another "mob film" with his usual cast of characters, Joe Pesci comes out of retirement and is fantastic in a very serious role for a change, well acted. Pacino, De Niro (friends, no political comments please, this is about the movie, don't ruin the fun), they all were great. Perhaps maybe not an Academy Award winner. Maybe Pesci. There was a character who sort of reminded me of Joe's part in Goodfellas. This was not a repeat of the other Mob movies with these guys in the past, but we do look for similar elements, and maybe some of the other actors who play the usual mob parts from other productions, but not many. Out of 10 I gave it a 7. This cast is getting old and perhaps one of hte last few as an ensemble they might make. CG effects in aging the actors were amazing

Watch the discussion around the table with the actors and director, after the movie. The actors talked about how the CGI affected their acting, they had to talk and move certain age, it wasn't just makeup. Pretty complex.

Great movie when in my 20s when first came out . Great movie today , but not for the woke
19 October 2019
A group of guys sat through this movie recently. Lets say 55, and many much older. I originally saw this movie, I was attending my first year or so of college. Everyone tried to imitate this with Toga parties, food fights, Belushi antics. Most of us "kids" then loved it. It was innocent fun for my generation.

Now 20+ years since I have seen this in some format, maybe even more since I have seen it uncensored as on Network TV. Today's kids with their wokeness, and political correctness indoctrination, probably would freak out,. This would not be made today. I am not a PC person but am more aware of what freaks out a certain woke part of our society. This would never be made today, or there would be protests. It was great to see a movie made, and the Producers didn't care about offending, or have a need to compensate for every nut job fringe group. It was plain raw laughter , no matter how offensive it was. Perhaps in my time, we could take a joke, today, one person is offended, they have to go to a crying room.

Great movie (ok a few minor too slow parts), great to watch years later and see what we have come to . Natural laughter occurred the other night during times with 24 hour news, internet and everything too serious. Need Hellarious days.

Entertaining - Real stuff!
21 November 2001
I am watching this on DVD for the 5th time. I usually don't watch movies over and over again in a stretch, but this is a video album. This is down to earth video, introducing stars as people who become stars on stage but a bunch of talented people who give you a feeling they are you next door neighbors, approachable. The music is superb!

I just feel there should have been more music on this though, but heck, it is great. Perhaps we can get more stuff like this. I like listening to CDs but I do like being brought close to the show, which is possible with todays set ups.

Just a nice simple good old fashion flick
9 November 2001
This movie isn't a big budget picture, big budget Apocalypse Now wasn't needed. Good old fashion story of Boy and his Dog or in this case a Soldier and his dog. There are some parts that may make sensitive people misty. Looked like they were walking through the MASH lot. This is basically a good story that takes place in Vietnam. Closed-minded people who don't trust a dog's instinct alone vs. those who have trust in the loyal companion.
