At last, a movie with believable characters!
17 June 2001
I cannot begin to explain just how REAL this film feels when you watch it. The characters seem to resemble people that all of us, at some stage or another, has met in our lives. How many people out there can say that they have never met a guy like Charlie or a big hearted guy like Mikey? Burns is proving himself as a writer and director, I hope he was proud of this piece. The script is believable and the scenery is exactly what most of us step out from our homes into! There is some great acting from Jon Bon Jovi, nice to see he's proving his critics wrong! This is a very moving and unforgettable movie, proving to me that mistakes make a man what he is.

The Patriot (2000)

Wake up!
26 December 2000
To all you out there who keep bad mouthing this movie for its historical inaccuracies please please will you wake up from your not-so-peaceful dream world and realize that this is just a movie, a great one at that! Who cares if it is inaccurate, it is an enjoyable and emotional watch that I will watch again and again. I am English and I don't have a chip on my shoulder about the way we were portrayed. One last note, it was the American against the Brits, not just the English, so get your historical facts right! (And catch my last Patriot review back in August!)

Space Cowboys (2000)
10/10
Another great mega climax space movie!
30 September 2000
This film is exactly what everyone said it was, an Armageddon hybrid. Great special effects, great actors - fantastic cast list of Clint Eastwood and Tommy Lee Jones, James Garner and Donald Sutherland. This film is great for any day or night out, it has everything any film enthusiast could wish for, a great story line, great actors, mind blowing effects, humour and a gentle touch of sadness. Definately a movie not to be missed.

The Legend of Billy the Kid (1994 TV Movie)
10/10
An unforgettable legend is once more drawn from the grave in this fantastic documentary
19 September 2000
This was the first and only documentary I have seen of Billy The Kid so I have no others to compare it to, but as a true Billy fan, I was pleased with what I got. Not only does this film explain the "true" facts about this outlaw legend it also gives a history of movies which were made about The Kid, and even used clips from some of the movies to help explain the wild life of Billy The Kid.

I got into Billy The Kid after watching the "Young Gun" movies and watching this documentary helped me to understand the troubled life of the Kid who no one seemed to understand. If I hadn't watched this documentary I wouldn't know as much about The Kid as I do now. It explains events in Billy's life clearly and sympathetically. The makers used plenty of aids to explain things, such as movie clips, pictures and even an interview with Emilio Estevez on the set of "Young Guns 2". I can only say one thing, if you like Billy The Kid or any of the Kid movies, see this documentary, you will not be disappointed.

Alive (1993)
10/10
The greatest true story of human survival
16 September 2000
If you want a movie which demonstrates the determination of humankind and fight for survival, "Alive" is the movie for you. I have seen this movie many times and even though they do eat flesh from their dead team mates the sight isn't repulsive. You want them to do what they can to survive and you admire their great courage to perform such a discouraged act. What they do is considered uncivilized, but in this movie I feel that it isn't. It took great courage for the men to do what they had to do and pushed to a similar extreme, any of us is likely to do the same. No one can say they wouldn't for sure, you wouldn't know unless you face a similar situation. The scenery is terrific, the special effects are good and worth seeing. The actors went to extrodinary lengths to look the part and they all played their parts extremely well and handled the roles sympathetically. Top grade movie all round!

The Patriot (2000)

There are no words good enough to describe this movie...
28 July 2000
I have never seen such a brilliant movie at the cinema...and I have been going for ten years. I was on the verge of tears all the way through this film and I actually cried about 20 times! The scenery was beautiful, the acting was fantastic, the cast was top rate, with the likes of Mel Gibson and Chris Cooper, the camera work was outstanding and the story line was incredible. If you have not seen this movie you are missing out, I can not recommend it enough. I always say that if a movie is to be called good it should make you think about it long after you leave the cinema doors. I will never forget it! This movie really is top rate, I have never enjoyed myself so much at the cinema. I will never forget the day I went to see it, and I know I will never forget The Patriot.

Lonesome Dove (1989)
10/10
By far the best of the West...
29 June 2000
This is truly the greatest western ever made. I defy anyone to live without ever having watched this mini-series. Even if you are not a western fan it doesn't matter, this has something to suit everyone. It is 6 hours long but don't be put off by the length, before you know it the film is over. This is a western masterpiece, and your eyes remained glued to the screen for the whole 6 hours. Tommy Lee Jones stars in this and I believe that it is one of his best performances to date, he never failed to make me believe that he was the character he was playing. There is an all-star cast with the likes of Robert Duvall, Angelica Huston and Steve Buscemi, not forgetting to mention Tim Scott and Chris Cooper. Lonesome Dove is about the price of one man's dreams, the pleasures, pitfalls and the glory of friendship. It has tears, fears, deaths and happiness. The magic intoxicates you and its grip fails to release you even long after the movie has passed its closing scenes. This is one of few movies where the messages inside will stay with you forever. It is by far the greatest western ever made, it will one day be known as legendary. It is an impossibility for any other western, past or present, to match the greatness of Lonesome Dove. It is definitely a movie for anyone for any occasion. I am glad I decided to sit and watch this, as I wasn't going to! I feel that it was an honour to sit and watch something so great and inspiring as Lonesome Dove. There is a little place inside my heart where the Wild West still thrives and everytime I put Lonesome Dove into the VCR this little piece is brought to the surface. For as long as I live I know I will never forget lonesome Dove.

ER (1994–2009)
The TV show where the characters don't know how to lose...
16 June 2000
ER is truly one of the best TV shows to have come out of USA, it is far better than our own show, "Casaulty". Every character is different and each develops his/her own personality as the episodes progress. You really feel as though you are there during each show, the urgency and rapid actions of the staff keep your eyes stuck to the screen and you can't bare to look away for just a moment! I have watched every episode right from the word GO and I hope it fails to get cut off from the air. I would be lost without ER, one of my few escapisms from real life! My favourite episode is the one where Carter and Lucy are attacked by a schizophrenic patient and Lucy dies. There was so much packed into that double bill that the action alone overwhelms you. They fought so hard to save her life but it was all in vain. You really feel as though you know the characters as the are so clear to us and we know what they are like, especially if you have followed the show from the start. It is always sad when a character leaves but it isn't long before another comes along. This show does not only have entertainment values but it could be life saving. I have learnt so much about real life medical problems and one day the facts about them might help someone in real life. The show also sends out great messages such as Carter's drug problem, it shows people that drugs aren't fun to mess around with. There was also an episode where these two girls were having sex parties and they caught something. Seeing what can happen is much more powerful than just knowing straight facts that seem to go straight through your head. This show gives out so many important facts and messages that do occur in everyday lives. This show is invaluable and I would truly miss it if it ever went off the air.

Psycho (1998)
WHY?
7 April 2000
It might sound old fashioned but I don't think that any film should be remade, unless of course, they weren't very good the first time around. Psycho may be good but nothing will beat the original. It was a waste of money and time.

Great fun!
7 April 2000
This movie is great for a fun night in if you want some light-hearted entertainment. The actors do they job well, they are believable as Sonny and Pepper. They make a good acting team and the storyline is entertaining, but not great and you don't have to solve any difficult plots, which i like to do. Despite this, it is worth watching,it has lots of fun moments, but really it is only for cowboy and western fans.

Young Guns (1988)
10/10
"I like these odds!"
7 April 2000
Although I like westerns there aren't too many that you can watch over and over again. Young guns 1 and 2 are exceptions. They are without doubt two of the best westerns ever made. They are traditional as they follow the 'rules of westerns' but they differ also, being more based on character than most other westerns. Emilio Estevez was great as Billy, playing him as the legend suggests, attractively wicked and high spirited. These two are my favourite movies of all time and can never be replaced.

Titanic (1997)
There are much better films than this!
6 April 2000
I saw Titanic at the cinema, and although it is worth watching I thought that it could have done better. James Cameron is a great director, but the special effects on T2 were much better. On Titanic you could see that they were just effects and didn't quite 'fit' with the film. With any effect, you should not be able to see it to make it good. The actors were good despite the poor story line and while the ending was sad, it could have been better. I would only recommend this film to ship or Leo fans.

Quantum Leap (1989–1993)
There is no better SCI-FI TV series
6 April 2000
I first watched QL about seven years ago and I've been addicted to it ever since, I never miss an episode. Scott Bakula is great as Sam Beckett, no one else could play him so well. Dean Stockwell is funny and entertaining as Al, they make a great acting team. Each episode is different and each with a twist in the plot. I recently watched one where 'Al' was the Devil and playing the 'baddie'. There will never be another SCI-FI series quite like quantum leap, with so many episodes and each one different it will always be one of my favourites. My sister complained how 'old' it looked, but after making her sit through one episode she is as hooked as I am. We all cheered through the episode 'Jimmy' when Sam lept into the body of a young man with Down's Syndrome. The very last episode is the best, and the saddest!! If you love SCI-FI, you'll love quantum leap!!

Young Guns II (1990)
10/10
The greatest movie on this earth!!
31 March 2000
Without a doubt young guns 2 is the greatest movie i have seen so far. It is much more entertaining than the first one and the characters have more depth and style. The scenery is unique and true to the style of the old West. The plot follows the true story of Billy The Kid more closely than many others I have seen so far, such as Vidal's Billy The Kid. I would highly recommend this movie for any Western fan and I would guarantee an entertaining hour and a half. The actors play their parts well, and Emilio Estevez even looks like Billy The Kid in some ways. This film is a must for Emilio Estevez fans. The movie makes good use of light and effective camera shots especially towards the end of the film. I would also recommend the soundtrack by Jon Bon Jovi, the songs are catchy and are true to the storyline, unlike many soundtracks. The only thing I do not like about this film is that it is too short, but well worth watching every time. The film opens with action shortly after it begins, keeping your interest from the start and giving you an in sight of what is to come. Young guns 2 is the perfect movie if you want action, adventure and a good story that's mixed between fact and legend.
