Fire Serpent (2007 TV Movie)
4/10
better than most sci-fil channels movies, BUT....
25 February 2007
I would not say this movie was akin to the usual sci-fi movies on Saturday night, but it won't be winning any awards either.

The writing was poor, however I believe the actors did the best they could with what they had – with the exception of the TV news crew women at the start. I found Nicholas Brendon's character to be the most 'believable' but they rest did as good as they could. I'm sorry but Beltran's character started off being poorly fleshed out, but by the end of the film he was over the top.

The SFX were not ILM worthy, but they were a hair better than most movies on the channel.

All in all, I found it watchable, but not very ripping. I will give the appropriate accolades to Mr. Brendon. He seems to have taken the part as far as he could with what he had. Better scripting and better directing by Shatner (although not nearly as bad as 'Star Trek: Generations' IMHO) may have made this just a wee bit better.

Treasure Hunters (2006– )

Great 'reality' series
13 August 2006
This and Survivor are probably my favorites of 'reality' shows (a term created by the press for Survivor S1 but run with by networks). They do not attempt to be anything less than they are: a contest. No, "will s/he be the next big star', "will s/he chose the million or his/her partner", "can this doctor cure their problems in 60 minutes including commercials and hawking his own book?" This is a true example of how a show can, and is, both entertaining and a somewhat educational (even if a ninth grade, at most, level.

As a write this, only part of season 1 has aired, however so far all contest contain a bit of US history. Each piece of history leads to an ultimate clue (UC) that then will combine with the UC from each episode to find a hidden treasure.

Each episode involves one team being slower than the others a reaching the UC last. This results in their elimination from the game.

I most certainly will tune in for a second season should one be approved.

Las Vegas Garden of Love (I) (2005– )
decent
11 April 2005
I kind of like this show. It's the last thing I'd expect on a family channel, but it's not half bad.

It's about 15year old Jonny and his life at his cousin's Marriage House, "The Garden of Love", in Las Vegas. THey show you, mostly as Jonny sees it, things as they progress.

It's not all weddings, but about the owners, the family, and even the employee's .. the monkey, too.

Give it a shot, It's better than most of the junk it's against.

Better than "The Bachelor", at least

The Joe Schmo Show (2003– )
Great Show!
15 October 2003
I am unable to express how great this show is. I am not a fan of the term `reality' for programming such as 'Survivor', 'Temptation Island', etc. as they are far FROM being `real'; essentially they are long term game shows, IMHO. That having been said, I only really watch 'Survivor' and a few Home Decorating Show - 'Trading Spaces', 'While You Were Out', etc for some tips to make my hole, err, home look a little better.

However 'The Joe Schmoe Show' I passed while channel surfing and just sat and watched it for awhile. At the point I first watched, I saw Matt's actions and I was hooked. He is the most likeable real person I have seen in a very long time. I have caught up on all the episodes having watched them more than a few times, and even watching reruns and knowing what will happen, the show makes me laugh.

It is my hope Spike TV will release this on DVD, w/o the censoring and blurry images. On a personal note, as a 100% deaf as a stump (and some say dumb as one, too) adult male, Spike TV - Thank You for Close Captioning this show!

Watchers (1988)
1/10
To use a phrase of juvenility, `Yuckers'!
26 April 2003
This was a film based on the Novel written by the modern literary god that is Koontz? I refuse to believe that studio bought the rights to this movie for anything using the Genius' Koontz name. Ever since my sight became poor enough to require Large Print, I have been unable to read this book as I had at least twice a year since first reading it. I missed the book greatly and was unable to find it in Large Print.

I was hoping by renting this movie I would at least get my vicarious Watcher's pleasures, but this movie was a travesty. Because of subtle plot points, it is my belief none of Mr. Koontz's, or most decent authors for that matter books can be crammed into 1-2 hours of film.

It will be the wise network, cable or other wise, who buys the rights to this novel and makes a multiple part television movie, i.e. mini series, of this book the RIGHT way!

one a star out of five - would that I could go lower ...
