Warning: Spoilers
I'm seriously doubting this rating system on IMDb. How in God's name could this crap load score a near 7?? The story was predictable, the dialogue tried way too hard to sound cheeky and intelligent, and the acting was so canned it felt like we were watching the first rehearsal.

You can't possibly accept that this dude's entire plan revolved around the compliance of a desk clerk. We're supposed to believe that he does this professionally, is some sort of expert to be handed this important task, and that's his only plan? No contingency. C'mon.

The security detail for the Homeland Security chief. Are you kidding? I love how the blond clerk is allowed to just walk right up to the door, no one posted in the hallway or somewhere on the floor. What can you expect, though, when your head of detail is some schmuck from Survivor?

In all, save your money, wait for it on video and rent something else.

Absolute Monkey Dung

This movie blows. The only reason someone would claim to have enjoyed it is because they couldn't understand it and figured that must mean it was good. I've always thought movies were supposed to be compelling, thought provoking. I've used deodorant more intriguing than this. Here you have a film all about sex and relationships but without sex and relationships. There's no realism, everything you see or feel is told to you, not shown or expressed. You're fed some dialogue and through that everything is to be "believed" or "realized." I guess this is what happens when you try to turn a play into a motion picture. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. A major failure.

VERY UNMEMORABLE...
20 May 2002
You couldn't really do much worse than Phantom Menace. So it's safe to say that this was a vast improvement. Yet it is still plagued with the same problems. Hayden Christensen is just as detrimental as Jake Lloyd was. Just terrible, terrible acting. Then there's the story. Oh what? There's supposed to be a decent story?? Forget it.

Incredible!!
1 April 2002
I happened to leave HBO on last night following Six Feet Under. What ran next has left me speechless. What an incredible piece of work. I don't just recommend this, I MANDATE that you see this. It's better than anything Hollywood could ever ruin. I just hope they never get their hands on it.

It coulda' been...
8 March 2002
This movie is basically nothing more than a great pilot for a tv show. There are about 5 subplots thrown in that could have all made for a wonderful film if given the chance to be featured individually. But they weren't and that's where this film's chances end.

Unimpressive

I don't understand the hype behind this. It tries to be funny but hesitates because that might be considered "too overt." It's conceited and not in an imaginative way. To me it feels like one of those films that people claim to love because they think they should.

Big Pile of Crap, Great Big Pile of Crap

This movie is so terrible. It's just about one of the worst things you could spend your money on. I saw it for free and still feel like I paid too much.

The story is terrible. A vampire wants to be a rock star??? In order to bring out his pals!! The dialogue is abominable, the acting even worse. I feel so bad that this is what the film career of Aaliyah will end with. She only has about 3-4 lines and her acting, well, she was a great singer.

If you're willing to toss 8 bucks into this, I've got some beautiful ocean front property in Michigan to sell you...

A Waste of Time
7 February 2002
Ok, I rented this movie the other night having heard mixed reviews but still curious. Feel asleep about 40 minutes into it, waiting for something to get the least bit intriguing. Figured that I may have been tired, so I watched the rest last night and fell asleep again. I found nothing compelling except for the topless pool scenes and if that's all this film has to offer to you, it's not that worth it.

If only it weren't real...
25 January 2002
I have to admit, there are some absolutely psychologically terrifying moments in this movie. What's most creepy is that a lot of this is based on real accounts from this town. I was a bit disappointed in the ending but if they strayed too much, it might have completely thrown the picture for a loop. I'm not a big Richard Gere fan. He usually bothers me but I was ok with him in this one. Not a must see but I don't think you'd be disappointed spending an evening price for.

"10!!!"
24 January 2002
First off, this is not an art film. Art films have the tendency to put a paper love and transcribe it to the big screen. This is not that type of film. This film wears its heart on its sleeve and is proud of it. I think I started tearing up within the first five minutes and ended up running the whole gamut of my emotions. Sean Penn is unreal. Michelle Pfeiffer fantastic. The whole cast is perfect. This is not a movie for everyone and I'm sure that it will be criticized for being predictable and over-the-top in its heartwarming (wrenching) tendencies. Don't let it stop you from seeing it, I think it's the type of movie everyone could use about now.

A Brilliant Comedy
8 January 2002
Honestly, you cannot look at this film as excitement and adventure. You have to look at it as an unfathomable piece of crap. It is so beautifully shot, yet to unbelievably bad. But for an unintentional laugh, you'll be hard pressed to find better (or worse.)

Lousy, Boring Waste
8 January 2002
Casting herself in the lead role was the biggest mistake Sally Potter could have made. I'm not trying to be harsh here but she is not aesthetically pleasing. Not even in the slightest which makes the story that much more unrealistic when it could have been fine with a better casting decision. Ego, ego, ego.

Fairly Predictable...
28 December 2001
You could do worse.

Edward Norton turns in another great performance while De Niro takes the day off on this one. Not that he's awful, just that role is not anything challenging.

Without giving anything away, you can tell what's going to happen about halfway through the film and when it does, you can pretty much predict what the result will be.

Worthy of a VHS priced rental.

Great fun!!
5 December 2001
First off, I've never seen the original so take that for what it's worth. You'll have to suspend reality in parts but c'mon...It's fun, it's fast paced, clever. Great entertainment, not too deep but you weren't expecting American Beauty, were you? The acting is decent although Don Cheadle's British accent is god-awful. Basically, if you're in the mood for a fun two hour ride, you won't be disappointed.

Grape Jelly for Lunch

Sorry, I hate writing a one line summary. Anyways, this is not the action thriller I thought it would be. That said, it was a very enjoyable, psychological film with several twists and turns. While the ending is predictable, that's not the point of the film. It's all about character development and Robert Redford was outstanding. Quick witted and sharp, he dominates this film over Pitt. Not to say that Brad Pitt didn't do a fine job as the young, brash but talented Tom Bishop. Muir almost adopts Pitt and you get that father son tough love feeling from this movie more than you would a buddy buddy flick. Definitely worth seeing!

Don't waste your time!!!
9 November 2001
It's a romantic comedy that's not that romantic and not that funny. Very disappointing. There was very little of that cutting edge humor that really put the Farrelly brothers where they are. For lack of a better word, lame. While I didn't pay to see it, I still felt cheated. Jack Black was tame, don't expect the High Fidelity wit to surface at all. The acting was fine, Jason Alexander was great as was Gwyneth Paltrow. It's not their fault that the writing really crapped out on this one. A genuine disappointment.

Wait for HBO
16 October 2001
Disappointing...The previews looked good but the humour was fairly mild Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. I'm still confused as to how anyone finds Sigourney Weaver attractive but that's just my opinion...The acting was fine just not a very good script to work with.

This is not a film you want to shell out 4 bucks to rent at the video store. Your parents might like it, you might too if you're over 35. If you catch it on HBO, you're better off.

Great Movie!!
15 October 2001
I'm surprised at all the overall low ranking of this film. It's not earth shattering but it's a very warm, funny, intelligent movie. I've heard it described as Soul Food with Hispanics but better. Sure it's a date movie but it's a Good date movie, provided you're date is a bit older than 17. Honestly, this is a good film that will not disappoint.

where's the payoff?
27 September 2001
Maybe I've been spoiled by the thrillers of today...This definitely creeped me out but the ending seemed anti-climactic. You sort of knew all along what was going on. You knew she couldn't be crazy or that would have made the feeling terrible. It's definitely worth seeing. Great shots, wonderful acting!!

Worth seeing although I don't know how I'd feel if I had to pay 8 bucks instead of nothing for the sneak preview I saw. Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer are very good and the script succeeds despite a fairly anti-climactic ending. Everything was great up until that point, it just seemed very forced, almost out of desperation to find some sort of warm feeling to send viewers home with. Probably could have ended about ten minutes early, you'll see what I mean. Stick around for the outtakes at the end, they're worth seeing.

Better than expected...
3 August 2001
I received free sneak preview passes at work and actually considered not going. I never saw the first Rush Hour, never had any desire to. Nevertheless, I decided to give it a shot, prepared for it to suck royally. I have to say I was caught totally off guard!!! While it's not going to change anyone's lives, this was great entertainment. It wasn't corny like I suspected, the action sequences were hot. If you're in the mood for a fun, fast paced film, go see it. This is definitely not my usual choice for films but I would definitely recommend it.

So much better than you think...
19 June 2001
This movie is so much better (direction, production) than Romeo and Juliet. While it may appear as blasphemy, I would rank the story right up there with R & J. I know, I know....So shoot me.

Ewan McGregor blew me away with his singing and Nicole Kidman was both ravishing and vulnerable. An amazing soundtrack (excluding Geetchee, geetchee).
