Devil in the Flesh 2 (2000)
Pretty Good...
I've never seen the first one, but I caught "Devil in the Flesh 2" on HBO when it premiered. It's actually pretty good. It's now one of my favorite horror movies. There's not a lot of gore, the acting isn't too bad (there's been worse), and guys, the chicks are HOT (except for Laney), especially the star, Jodi Lyn O'Keefe.
Debbie (Jodi) has just escaped from the mental institution and takes herself out to a desert road. A young woman, Tracy Carley, is on her way to college and sees Debbie "lying" in the road. When she stops and gets out to investigate, the body is gone, and sitting in Tracey's front seat! Debbie lies and says that she's a nurse and that someone is after her.
To make it short, Debbie takes over Tracey's identity and impersonates her at her college. She falls for her writing teacher, Prof. Sam Deckner, and develops a deadly obsession with him (Tagline: She gets what she wants... at any cost).
You got your basic characters for the rest of the film: the geeky girl roommate (Laney), the dumb jock (Buddy), the teacher's sexy girlfriend who's in Debbie's way (Carla), the silly and stupid local police duo (Deputy Toby Taylor & Sheriff Bill Taylor ), and the snobby bitch dormitory monitor (Sydney).
There are three sex scenes (one with nudity, one with almost nudity, and one with brief nudity). There's also hardly any swearing, which makes listening to the film easy. You have nothing to lose by watching this movie no matter what form you get it in. It's one of those kinds of movies where you're satisfied after you're done, even if you didn't love the film. Also, I loved the creative ending they tied on!
Blondie: Best of Musikladen Live (1999)
Blondie is Always Good!
This German music program from 1978 really shows how Blondie could perform before they really made it big (which wasn't until about 1980-1981).
Debbie Harry is full of energy and belts out the songs right from the stage, through the TV screen, and into your face. The way the band moves around on stage is fantastic, showing that they really know what they're doing. After seeing this DVD twice now, I still can't stop thinking about how great of experience it was to have seen such a spectacular concert.
To sum it up, BUY THIS DVD!!!! You won't regret it, and if you're as much of a Blondie fan as I am, you will want to see this over and over again.
A couple things I need to mention: This performance is from 1978 (but released before their hit album "Parallel Lines" which contains "Heart of Glass"), so the audience isn't as wild and crazy as they would be today. The title "Blondie" and the band members' names appear on the screen a few times throughout the show (Frank Infante's name being credited as Frank Freak, kinda funny!). And finally, just keep in mind that this performance is RARE so you know you're getting something great and worth having.
Blondie: Live (1999)
They're Back!
This is Blondie's first concert in 17 years live on February 10, 1999 at New York's Town Hall in NYC. It was a dream come true for older Blondie fans and something really cool and new to check out for younger fans.
Debbie Harry is "once more into the bleach" as she and the rest of Blondie perform their older and newer hits. Starting off with "Dreaming" and ending with "Heart of Glass," this concert is extremely entertaining and will not disappoint you. The band could not be any better than they are, and Debbie...WOW DEBBIE...she looks gorgeous! She can really rock the house and get you dancing.
My favorite part of the show is when they are performing "Sunday Girl" and Debbie raises her arms and sings "Baby...ohhhhhh...baby...My sweet baby...you're the one..." It gives me chills each time I see it.
Along with a great concert, the DVD also gives you the music video for "Nothing is Real But the Girl," song lyrics to selected tracks off of "No Exit," and great publicity photos of the band.
This is a spectacular show, and is a must-see for every Blondie fan. If Blondie's music can lift your spirits when you're feeling low, just think how you could feel when you see this!
Six Ways to Sunday (1997)
Debbie Harry Rocks!
If you are a big Debbie Harry/Blondie fan, this movie is for you. I can't get over how great of an actress she is, and some of the "things" she does and says in this movie. She even has a flashback to when she was younger, and she's singing like she did in Blondie, not to mention that in one scene, the Blondie song "Sunday Girl" is playing in the background.
"Six Ways to Sunday" is about a kid, Harry Odum, who finds connections to make money by working for the mob. He lives with his mother Kate (Debbie Harry), and has a very close relationship with her. (Later in the movie, you'll see just how "close" they are!) This is a very dark comedy, great acting, great story, a great movie. Movies require you to think too.
Please watch this if you get the chance. If you don't like it, it's not that much of a waste of money. I got the DVD for $9.99, so I'm sure the video, or a rental copy, is much much cheaper. And like I said, Debbie Harry is terrific in this movie, as well as the rest of the cast. And when the film is over, and you watch the screen fade to black after the last scene as the credits roll, you'll think, "what a move."
Halloween II (1981)
This is only the beginning!!!
This is one of the best sequels to a movie that I have ever seen. Please read my review on "Halloween" to understand what this review means.
Anyway, "Halloween II" starts off exactly with the end of "Halloween." Even though this movie was filmed three years later than the first, great editing and acting (especially by Jamie Lee Curtis) made it look like it all took place on Halloween Night in 1978. What you see at the beginning is the actual end of Halloween, then when Dr. Loomis (played by Donald Pleasence) comes out of the house (don't want to ruin it for anyone) is when they started filming for "Halloween II."
Michael Myers, a psychopathic killer, has followed his target, Laurie Strode (played by Jamie Lee Curtis)to the hospital immediately after he tried to attack her. This movie brings on a new cast considering it takes place in a hospital. There is Nurse Karen (played by Pamela Susan Shoop) who, I think, has the most gruesome death of all, Jimmy,(played by Lance Guest) who is a paramedic and likes Laurie, Budd who is a real jerk, along with people from the first "Halloween." Annie, Laurie's friend (played by Nancy Loomis) reprises her role, but only for a few seconds, Sherrif Brackett (played by Charles Cyphers) still helps Dr. Loomis track down Michael, Marion Chambers (Nancy Stephens)is back and is the nurse that tried to transport Michael to a different ward in the first one and tells a horrifying secret to Dr. Loomis about Laurie and her connection to Michael, which explains why he's after her.
This film has more gore than the first, or shall I say "just has gore" (the first one didn't) but it is ok, not too groes, and the score is very good, which is once again performed and written by John Carpenter. He has re-recorded all the songs from the first movie and has put even more synthesized tones in them. This includes "Halloween-Main Theme", "Laurie's Theme", and the rest. John Carpenter has made up new ones for this film like "He Knows Where She Is" and "In the Operating Room."
You haven't seen the entire Halloween experience until you have seen "Halloween II." I, and other "Halloween" fans, consider this and the first "Halloween" all one big movie. It isn't over until you see this.
*************************WARNING*****************************
DON'T WATCH THIS MOVIE BEFORE GOING TO THE HOSPITAL.
Halloween (1978)
This Film Put the "Horror" in Horror Movies!
If you are a die-hard horror movie fan, this one is for you. John Carpenter's "Halloween" is a must see for any true horror fan. "Halloween" is about a psychopathic murderer, Michael Myers, who escapes from a mental institution to kill people in his home town, Haddonfield, Illinois. I know it may sound a little "obvious" or "terrible" but it is very spine tingling.
It stars Donald Pleasence as Dr. Sam Loomis who is Michael Myers doctor, and a very young Jamie Lee Curtis (this was her first major film) as an innocent baby-sitter who is Michael's target. Along with these two wonderful actors stars Nancy Loomis as Annie, Laurie's friend, (Nancy Loomis also stars in John Carpenter's "The Fog" along with Jamie Lee Curtis as well), P.J. Soles as Lynda, Laurie's other wacky friend (she has a small part along side with Sissy Spacek in "Carrie").
Annie and Lynda only care about going out with their boyfriends, unlike Laurie, who make tons by babysitting. When Annie and Lynda decide to sneek out while on the job, Laurie is stuck watching her regular, plus Annie's. Laurie thinks how wonderful and fun it would be to go with them, but doesn't realize how lucky she will be that she doesn't. One by one, Michael strikes, making his way to his final victim, Laurie. Throughout the whole movie, Dr. Loomis and the Sherif (who is Annie's dad) try to find Michael. When Michael reached Laurie, he doesn't get Laurie right away. Will this give her time to escape, and will Dr. Loomis save her in time?
Not only does this movie have great acting, but the musical score is terrifying and fun as well. All of the music you hear in this movie was written and performed by John Carpenter, a real jumper. Another good thing is how there is not a whole lot of gore and blood in this movie. Most of it is all in your mind. Rent or buy Halloween as soon as possible so you can experience the ultimate fright night that everyone is talking about. You'll be glad you did!
