Elephant (2003)

Fifty-Fifty

"Elephant" by Gus Van Sant is a film that is very boring in the first half and interesting in the second half.In the first half,we are witness of a ordinary day of the students of a high school and we see his relationships, his matters and, most important,we see how they walk in all the whole institute. That lasts about 45 minutes.Later,we see the killers that will shoot all the institue, and we learned how they have fun,how they get the guns, how they killed people....The best of the film are the moves of the camera, the acting of the non-professional actors, and the realism of the shots.Personally,i think that "Mystic River" deserves better the Golden Palm in the Cannes Film Festival. But,i will give a 5/10 rating for the second half of the film.

Good and terryfic Thriller
10 November 2004
"Angel Heart" by Alan Parker is a terryfic thriller with an excellent Rourke in one of his best performances. With a Robert De Niro perfect as Louis Cyphre,a remarkable soundtrack of Trevor Jones and a plot that makes you wonder what wiil happen next, this movie works. There is a sex scene between Rourke and Lisa Bonet who is very controversial, but i think that is very scary.I like the mixture between "Noir film" and terror. And,finally,i think that Alan Parker is a good director that proves his talent in films like this and others like "Midnight Express" or "Pink Floyd:The Wall".Oh,by the way, don't tell the ending to your friends, because is very surprising and unexpected. They will recognize you.My rating:8/10

A masterpiece
29 August 2003
This movie is one of my favorites and maybe the best of Alan Parker(well,i still not see "Angel Heart",which people say that is the best).Based in one of the best albums in rock history, this film is much more than a long videoclip:is an original, surprising and stunning story about Pink,a rock star and the mental wall that he is building to escape from his reality(loss of his father in war, maternal overprotection, his wife....).The film have the brilliant sequences of animation by Gerald Scarfe and an incredible sound, that is more effective if you see the film in DVD or in theaters. Finally,i must say that the first time that i see the film,i was amazing and ready to see the movie once more.If you like Pink Floyd and the musical films(i don´t know if calling this film a musical)you must see this masterpiece.

One of the best movies of the 80's
19 August 2003
After his historical flop of "Heaven's gate",many people thought that the carrer of Michael Cimino was over.In fact,he only made 4 films:"The sicilian"(1987),"Desperate Hours"(1990),and "The sunchaser"(1996).None of these films was a sucess and it's difficult to know if he going to make another film.Where is the another film, you might ask?Well, the another film is Year of the dragon(1985),an exciting thriller who was wrote by Oliver Stone(writer of "Midnight Express" and "Scarface"). The movie tell us the story of Stanley White(Mickey Rourke),an violent, racist and arrogant cop and his fight against the chinese gangsters,in particular with Joey Tai(John Lone). The performances are excellents(well, about Ariane, who plays the role of Tracy,is better no to talk)),and the script and direction are wonderful. In short, for me is one of the best movies of the eighties and maybe the best of Cimino

Cimino have better films than this.
31 July 2003
This is the kind of movie that you see one time and after you forget. It's an entertaining thriller, with good performances (except an overacted Rourke),and nice music by David Mansfield. But there is no doubt that Cimino have better films than this, like "Year of the dragon" or "The deer hunter".

An ode to the bizarre
31 July 2003
This cult movie of Browning it's an real ode to the bizarre. The film is very surprising to be an 30's film and it was elemental that the Hollywood studios don't accept to Browning to make films.I like to thought that the really monsters are the humans who wants the money of the dwarf Hans and not the "freaks".A must to see!
