Archie (2023)
Major Disappointment
Ten percent of the four episodes was about Cary Grant and the rest about Dyan Cannon. The actor playing Cary Grant bore little resemblance to the real Cary and looked a lot shorter too. His acting I thought was very wooden and stilted and failed to draw me in. It was a struggle to finish watching all four episodes, by the end I had lost all interest. Some day I hope they will make a proper autobiography of the man. This definitely isn't it and I would not recommend this very poor effort to anyone. Archie never really feels real. This may be down to the writing - laboured jokes and trite drama mark this as a script the real Grant would have surely scrapheaped. Maybe Isaacs, making big and unexpected choices, has to shoulder some of the blame. But whatever the reason, Archie is an affair to forget.
Sons of Anarchy (2008)
Complete Load of Rubbish
I can't for the life of me understand the number of high ratings given for this show. I could not empatise with any of the main characters. A complete bore fest.
Crock of Gold: A Few Rounds with Shane MacGowan (2020)
Perfect Documentary
This is one of the best documentaries about a musical artist that I have ever seen. An absolute must watch, regardless of whether you are a fan of Shane McGowan and The Pogues.
Joan of Arcadia (2003)
an earthy show
Excellent show, and good characters. No, Joan isn't getting great mysteries revealed to her about the why's of everything, and it's not likely she'll every be out there saving the human race from extinction, but she is making little differences in her corner of the world.Everything just is and it's how we deal with it that makes life have value. It's about overcoming all the little and sometimes not so little hassles and horrors that can come about in life. The show portrays elements of life people have to deal with, from the major stuff of losing a friend, crippling a friend or living with rape to what seems like smaller stuff of just getting a friend or loved one through a bad day. It's so refreshing for a show to portray teenagers who can think for themselves. People who whine about this show are obviously upset because someone has dared to bring God into a media slot. I'm just sorry that those who had the courage to make and air this show seem to have lost it again in favour of making money instead of valuable show. Shame on them
The Straight Story (1999)
Essential Viewing for Young and Old
This film is in my list of top ten greatest movies. It's clear from reading the other comments that no matter where in the world you happen to live or language you speak, this film has had a deep emotional impact on almost everyone who has viewed it, myself included. Very few films have had this kind of effect on me. Over the past few years I have become increasingly exasperated at the quality of films been produced by the Hollywood studios. Once in a blue moon a gem appears from nowhere to put these studios to shame. Straight Story is beyond criticism, end of story. 10/10
