Boring
19 February 2005
This movie is certainly not what I expected. As someone else wrote on this site, you expect to see a horror/thriller movie like The Haunting or The Others. This is not the case, the movie is nothing more than a classic good guys/bad guy thriller. There is nothing new or fresh about this movie, you do not have to watch very much of it before you can guess the plot. The scenes, that are supposed to be scary, are not at all, because they have been done so many times before. The cast and the acting is OK. Dennis Quaid is great, except maybe saying "Oh my God" too many times. He could have easily handled a much more demanding part. The same thing can be said about Stephen Dorff. Sharon Stone though does not seem to be trying very hard. Juliette Lewis is great as Dale Massies' sexy girlfriend, but my question is: what is she doing here? She is not important to the story and does nothing more than look and act sexy. Maybe they cast her to give the audience something interesting to look at.

Already a classic
26 April 2003
This is one of the absolute best and funniest movies of the 90'es, and it is one of my favourites. Even though it is only 9 years old, I would call it a classic. It will certainly become a classic and will amuse people for many years to come. The soundtrack is excellent, whenever I put this movie on I find myself sitting through the end credits to listen to a song like "Crash". This movie is brilliant entertainment. It is maybe not an artistic masterpiece, but then again, how many great comedies are?

Mr. Deeds (2002)
Relaxing,feel-good entertainment
29 March 2003
This is a movie some people will hate, while others will just love it. I belong to the latter. This movie is highly entertaining and funny, even though also highly predictable and full of clichés. The plot is a mixture of things you have seen many times before, except for a few details. One of those being the rather strange and mysterious but very funny servant, brilliantly played by John Turturro. To some this movie will probably seem stupid and meaningless, they will probably say that there is nothing new in it and that it is too predictable. But, to me, that is exactly what makes it a relaxing, funny feel-good movie. It is also romantic, warm and charming, it has an important message and the comedy is brilliantly made.

Great special effects
27 March 2002
This movie is a must for any fan of the great cartoon series from the 60's. The special effects and the sets are incredible, they have put a lot of work into making that. Every little detail, that can be seen in the cartoon, is also in this movie, for example a lizard like dinosaur running on a wheel to pull an elevator. However, less work has been done to write the plot, which is somewhat week and full of cliches. John Goodmann makes a great Fred, but Rick Moranis' Barney does not really resemble Mel Blanc's from the cartoon. I think his laugh is missing, also the general way Mel Blanc's Barney speaks is different. Rosie O'Donnel's Betty, on the other hand, is good. This movie is still a must for any Flinstones fan. The plot is not the most important part of this movie, the way Steven Spielberg made drawings come to live is.

Hanging Up (2000)
What a disappointment
26 January 2001
This movie is definitely not what I had expected. With a cast like this I expected a great comedy. But the movie was boring and confusing. There are too many flashbacks. Maybe it is just me, but I found it difficult to understand what was going on. Of course, that could also have something to do with the fact that it was very difficult for me to stay focused. What a shame this was going to be Walter Matthau's last movie. I you found this movie good or even funny, you must be more intellectual than me.

One of my favourites

This is one of the best Disney movies ever made. It is funny, warm, and it is something everybody can enjoy. To watch this in the twenty first century is a wonderful trip back in time. This movie is very 60's, but that does not make it out of date, the tricks and gags are timeless. I loved this movie when I saw it for the first time many years ago. Therefore, when the new 1998 remake came out, I had to see that too. The new one is also sweet and warm, but the original version is the best. If you see this version first and then all or some of the new afterwards (as I tried, for fun, one was on TV and I have the other on DVD), the new one reveals itself as being superficial and a bit cheasy compared to the original.

Tarzan (1999)
Not the best from Disney
1 November 2000
I think the best thing about this movie is the music, it is great. The problem is, good music alone cannot carry a movie, even though it narrates this one. This movie is not the best Disney has made. The typical supporting, funny characters, Disney always have in their in their cartoons - here Terk and Tantor, are not as good as in for example "The little Mermaid" or the great "Lion King". Do not get me wrong, Rosie O'Donnel does a good job as Terk, but it is not enough to make the comedy work. I think this movie is somewhat weak and predictable. The scenes that are supposed to be funny just seem like something that has been done before. It is not altogether bad, there are a few laughs, but there is nothing new in this movie. All characters are recognizable. Tarzan comes nowhere near the old classics.

Notting Hill (1999)
The greatest romantic comedy, I have ever seen.
17 July 2000
I enjoyed this movie incredibly much. It is the best romantic comedy I have ever seen. In fact, I liked it more than even a classic like "Pretty Woman". This movie has all a romantic comedy should have: Love, romance and humor.

William Thacker experiences ups and downs in his relationship with Anna Scott. I felt sad, when he felt sad, and I was happy, when he was happy.

On top of this, the movie has a lot of funny scenes and funny characters, especially Thacker's lodger Spike who is not very bright but warm-hearted. He ads a lot of humor into this movie.

Men in Black (1997)
A funny surprise
31 May 2000
This movie is a lot better than I had expected. I thought it would be sci-fi and not a comedy. I decided to take a chance with it anyway, when it was on a Scandinavian movie channel, and I was surprised. It is really funny. I did not particularly like Tommy Lee Jones in "The fugitive" or "Under Siege", in this, however, he performs well. Will Smith is a great comedian, although his style is the same he has used before.
