The Molly Maguires (1970)
Excellent but Misleading Movie
This was an excellent Hollywood portrayal for me to watch after reading about the Molly Maguires. The period scenes and daily life were made really vivid and the drama seemed very good. The names of the characters were of the actual people involved in this story and that seemed interesting too. Like in many movies though, personalities of these actual people were fictional, if the written history is correct. Mollies as a group were violent people that murdered, and not necessarily for noble reasons. In the end the movie makes Richard Harris appear to be bad, and the opposite is probably true. But as long as this and many other movies are not taken as historical they can be, like this one, valuable and enjoyable.
The Family Jewels (1965)
Watch the film.
And now I would like to write an objective review of the movie for you--but I don't have time. Just watch it. I thought it was fascinating and funny. I hadn't seen it since 1965 when it was at the theaters, maybe it was kept off tv because experts didn't like it. But make up your own mind, one that isn't closed from the beginning because of analysis or psychoanalysis by someone else. There are two great pool shots that you definitely need to see, and the part where Jerry Lewis was talking like Pee Wee Herman way back in 1965 was also interesting. I think there's a lot more to the movie than these two things though.
