The Rookie: The Hammer (2024)
It can't get worse
The writing for this show couldn't even pass muster for the lowest rated afternoon soap opera that is about to be canceled. It was a cliché of every little thing that could go wrong and then magically fixed. This is allegedly a police show but real cops who behaved like this would not be working for the LAPD. ( I certainly would hope not.) Some people blame this on Juarez, but getting rid of her will not fix their problems.
They have a very large cast and as usual revisit every single member and their individual problems. It doesn't advance the story because there is none. They can't leave annoying characters from the past forgotten in the past. For this episode it was Skip Tracer Randy and the red-headed lawyer who had someone murdered last week. Will it take till next year to send her to prison? If this is an example of what the writers who got a raise after the strike can produce, the studios got ripped off. The writers should be fired.
The Rookie: Strike Back (2024)
Now I remember why I didn't miss the show all autumn
The show has been going way down hill for a long time. This episode touched bases with all the "regulars" and their idiosyncrasies. Even Smitty put in an brief appearance. The cast is far to large and each seems to have say a sentence or two which doesn't advance the story. It used to be only slimy Wesley who was in every episode for no reason. This episode everyone had to crawl out of the woodwork. It is a cop show but there is far too much violence and throwbacks to old stories. Remind me again what's with the fake redheaded lawyer. The writers should focus on new stories and concentrate on a few main players per episode. Everyone doesn't have to put in two cents. The only high point is Officer Thorsen is back. Get rid of some of the others and concentrate on him. He is the best of the whole cast. Sorry Nathan, it is hard to tell you are supposed to be the star.
The Rookie: Going Under (2023)
Big improvement but 2 points off for...
This episode was mostly based on current police business which is a big improvement over the constant angst with the love lives of the police officers and their dwelling on rehashed old stories. Aaron got to play a bigger role, but they still need to make him a main character. Wesley was his usual slimy annoying self while he hangs around the edges of stories. They absolutely don't need him to put in his two cents on things the police should already know. It's as if he is under contract for a few lines per episode. They had their opportunity in the past to knock him off and didn't take it. They seemed to have toned down Celena's character to closer to normal behavior. It is strange that the show is called The Rookie while that character takes a back seat. I took two points off my rating for ruining the episode with that useless walk-on by that raspy-voiced woman whose claim to fame is falling out of her much too-low-cut dress. They need to kill her show already so they don't taint this one with any more appearances by the talentless Niecy Nash.
Star Trek: Tomorrow Is Yesterday (1967)
One of my favorite episodes
The most interesting part of this is the black star. Lawrence M. Krauss, a professor of physics, who wrote a book called the Physics of Star Trek, wondered why they used an incorrect term for a black hole. The reason is that this episode was written before the term black hole was coined so they predated the science.
The episode is serious and fun at the same time, although I can't stand their "fun" music which they use when there is something ridiculous going on like a fight. They used it on Shore Leave also. The whole idea that someone can go back in time and change history, is a recurring theme in Star Trek and is just totally confusing. I love the episode anyway.
The Rookie: The Con (2023)
Can't seem to end a story line
The Rookie keeps dredging up old stories, it is like water torture; drip, drip, drip. Elijah keeps returning. When we think we are done with his disgusting character, he crawls out of the woodwork. When it finally looked like we wouldn't have to see him again, their ridiculous plan fell apart at the end because of a fluke. His lawyer, who has the character of Rosalind, another too frequently seen nemesis from the past, keeps showing up. I was hoping Elijah would get to put us out of her misery with a shot in the head. But, no. Unfortunately, Elijah was there at the end setting up some more air time.
The mood of the show was kept lighter by John's visit to his dead mother's home where people keep coming by looking for their stuff. We knew she was a con artist but she was a lot more skilled than even John thought. They need to kill off Elijah, his lawyer, and slimy Wesley too, and come up with some new stories. Aron needs more air time.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Qpid (1991)
Unbelievable stupid
I hate Q, but he is not the only thing wrong with this episode. It is embarrassing to watch them dressed up in Robin Hood characters. It started on the wrong foot when Vash first appeared and the officers behaved like fifth graders talking about a classmate's love interest. The captain is a grown man, he is a private man, and yet they smirk about his knowing a woman whom he has kept a secret. One would think that officers on the Enterprise would behave like adults. It is not fun to watch. I am embarrassed for them. However, Worf delivered a humorous line totally in character, "I am not a merry man." He smashed the lute, again in character, with a terse apology.
Star Trek: Bread and Circuses (1968)
Oh God!
The premise of the show was that Christianity was bringing peace to a faraway planet that resembled earth where the Roman Empire never fell. They drove cars with names of planets. My first car here on earth was a Mercury Comet. They had glossy magazines. They had TV shows with canned applause. I understand the gladiatorial games, we still have football. Spock and the doctor were having a humorous side conversation while they were fighting off opponents who were trying to kill them with swords.
A spaceship captain who attended Star Fleet Academy managed to impart all his knowledge to the head honcho who controlled the area. This was topped off by Uhura giving a star struck lecture on the the misunderstanding that the pacifists were not sun worshippers but son worshippers. Please. In Patterns of Force the similarity was imposed by an errant Star Fleet Officer. For a civilization to have grown up like ours in very small details is laughable. This show and the Omega Glory, were real embarrassments to the series.
The Rookie: Feds: The Silent Prisoner (2023)
Put the show out of our misery
There is nothing good about this show which stars a talentless actress who plays every role the same way. I watched only to see what happened to the plot line from the Rookie crossover. The acting is so bad I kept skipping parts. The Rookie is a decent show, but not as good as it was. Don't drag it down more by having Niecy Nash, with her grating voice, come to save the day. It is not realistic that she knows more than the seasoned agents or can interrogate better because she was what, a school counselor. Kill it already. Don't fake the ratings by getting Rookie watchers to tune in against our will.
The Rookie: Take Back (2022)
Too much love life
I am tired of all the love life intrigue in this show because it always seems opportunistic. Characters are added just to make a person available for romance and then another arrives to cancel the relationship. They should spend more time on police work. Unfortunately, they are about to force that talentless Niecy Nash down our throats again. It was bad enough when they debuted her for her horrible show on The Rookie, but now to help save it from cancelation they are doing a crossover episode to force us to watch. She has absolutely zero talent. She is always loud and abrasive. She had the exact same personality when she was a guest on Monk in 2004. Just cancel her low rated show and be done with it without torturing us.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Encounter at Farpoint (1987)
How did they ever recover from this?
It is now 2022. I didn't like it the first time either. Q was a bad way to start. Every episode where he appears is always at the top of my list for bad shows. The rules of the Star Trek universe don 't apply. I knew that it takes a few episodes for the characters to begin to work together so I was willing to overlook a bad start. Now that I see it again having seen the entire complement of TV Star Trek shows, it is much worse than I remembered. Possibly the worst first show of any of the various series. I burst out laughing when Captain Picard ordered Saucer Sep. Wesley was always a big mistake and much more annoying when he was younger. They did recover from this bad start and most of the rest of the series lived up to the Star Trek brand.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: All Good Things... (1994)
Unbelievably bad
I am writing this in 2022. I haven't watched any Star Trek this past year and I decided to watch this rerun. All the Star Treks repeat every few month.
Some episodes are wonderful and then there is Q. He is a character I have always despised. At first this episode was a total confusion until Q appeared which explains all the nonsense. With Q, every semblance of logic goes out the window. Even by Star Trek standards this doesn't make any sense. It is a jumble of disjointed scenes with Patrick Stuart overacting in all the future one. I know I didn't like it when it was first shown and it is no better with age. They are just making up stuff which is not canon. It was a disappointing ending to what was a very good series which defied expectations.
The Rookie: Double Down (2022)
Sick writers
A least they are back to police work but they keep harping on a very very sick character. How do they even come up with some of the sick stuff that Rosalind has done? I will not be watching until I know I don't have to continue to see her. She will have to be dead. It can just be a simple gunshot, nothing fancy.
As far as the two undercover cops doing more than role playing, that is fine. The had to soften up Tim's character. This episode managed to get every character to show their faces at least once to remind us they are still there. Good thing. I forgot a few. I still wish they would knock off Wesley. I cannot stand his slimy character.
The Good Doctor: Sons (2022)
At long last
They finally got married. They managed to drag out the drama all year. There is no way two surgeons who are not neurosurgeons could have pulled off experimental surgery with instant results which always requires patient training. Is Dr. Lym going to come out? I hope we are going to get rid of the most self-centered and annoying character; Dr. Reznick. Knowing that this hospital appears to have only the few surgeons and attendings we know, it is unlikely that the drunks upstairs will be able to come to the rescue.
The show has lost its way a long time ago. Dr. Murphy's talent for unusual solutions has taken a back seat to the supposed boring drama entangling everyone in the cause de jour. Cancel the show.
The Rookie: Day in the Hole (2022)
Cancel the show
Unbelievable. No storyline. Dim-witted characters from the past. Noise that tries to pass as music. The premise that one officer plus two incompetent accomplices could pull off a win against a professional gang of thugs is so implausible, intercut with a dentist's view of Nolan's nutty half brother. Was that a teaser that there will be a new set of lovers to follow next year.?Please spare us the misery!
The Good Doctor: The Lea Show (2022)
We've waiting all season for this?
How much can on show drag out a wedding? Just go to the JP and get it over with already. One part of the show is real. Doctors discuss very mundane and stupid things in surgery when their patient's life is on the line. A study in Canada found that cutting operating room chatter led to better outcomes. They should be modeling that behavior instead of what to wear to a wedding. Let's get back to the premise of Shaun's fantastic abilities to find solutions because of his autism and less about every couples' love life.
The Rookie: Mother's Day (2022)
Ho Ho Ho
Police work is so entertaining and humorous. The episode was so sweet till the last moment that all my teeth rotted from the syrupy stories. Let's get back to some real police work before the show gets canceled. Although I saw a fire truck, we were not treated to the one and only fire crew in LA, the one with Nolan's girlfriend. How did they miss that?
The Good Doctor: The Shaun Show (2022)
A recurring theme
Dr. Allen, a second year resident, keeps correcting Shaun, a fifth year resident, and offering options when he seems stymied. The premise of the show is that Shaun is a master at coming up with options. It is not an accident that she is a woman and person of color, as opposed to the white guy's doing it. This episode, a little person had to give her lecture. The Rookie, is doing the same thing. Can't a show just be entertaining without shoving "enlightenment" down our throats? I can't bear to use the w-word. At least there were medical issues, but I have yet to see a surgery when the patient doesn't crash. They love their flashing red displays.
The Rookie: Simone (2022)
Annoying
The Rookie has lost its way. If this is an intro to a new show, they shouldn't bother to make it. The character is very annoying. The FBI trainee steps in to pontificate about what experienced officers don't know. Only she can solve the case. Do we really have to watch a second part of this? She is essentially the same character she played when she was a guest actor on Monk where she was also annoying.
The Good Doctor: My Way (2022)
At least there were medical issues
This was a big improvement over last week's nonsense. However, there are literally only two or three people in all of the US using an iron lung and they can't use something else. Lea, has become the Jill of all trades. In the past she saved the hospital from a computer attack, and now she is Cousin Vinny's Mona Lisa Vito, an expert car mechanic. The storyline of the boy in foster care is in the purview of a doctor's job. The writers seem to have an idea that outright lying is OK for what they think is a higher purpose. This time it was about a car part, another time they stole an organ from a donor by fabricating a sob story. Both are unethical. Last but not least, do they have a casting call for "differently abled" people? The show needs different writers.
The Good Doctor: Potluck (2022)
Cancel the show
This episode is by far the worst. Pretty hard, when the last two were abysmal. The whole first part of the season was ruined by Salem. Now an episode of literal craziness. The actors should have been embarrassed to be part of this fiasco. Cancel the show. It has lost its way.
The Rookie: Coding (2022)
Not a great episode
Lazy writing. No real police work. They just stood around talking about what could happen if... What would have ever made them suspect something was amiss with the kid? It is all neatly wrapped up at the end with the obligatory lovers' talk. The series was renewed. Does that mean they don't have to try harder to make a better episode?
The Good Doctor: Dry Spell (2022)
Unbelievable. Nothing but sex
The entire episode was nothing but exploring everyone's sex life with a few unusual twists thrown in. The original premise of the show was Shaun's autism, now called ASD instead. Shaun rarely gets to show his talents anymore and this episode hit rock bottom in that regard. In addition, Dr. Lim should have known her patient had a fungus infection, not cancer. Didn't she listen to the history?
The Greatest Show on Earth (1952)
Dated
The circus acts are dated. Many of the acts are not entertaining to people now. It is not just the animal acts. The movie could have been 30 minutes shorter without the long parades of nothing but fancy costumes. I own this on VHS, which means I used to think better of this film. I watched it recently. I realized what I liked about it only near the end. This is Charlton Heston at his best. It is several years before he became Moses forever after. When so many people are traveling together I am sure there is plenty of similar intrigue in real life. It is a journey to the past when circus was king.
The Good Doctor: Yippee Ki-Yay (2022)
Sucks
What a stupid episode! All kinds of dumb coincidences. A patient comes back from the dead because of sudden clotting factors. One patient is paralyzed but his son magically can walk because his blood sugar is better. Where are the medical experts? The show was supposed to showcase Shaun's talents and it has turned into a drama about everyone's sexual exploits. If they don't kill off Salen in the next episode, there is no hope for this stupid show. I am tired of seeing her smirking face! Keep it medical or cancel the stupid series!
Star Trek: Voyager: Tsunkatse (2000)
Outdated violence
The Voyager crew should have been beyond the "pleasures" of watching a variation of Roman Gladiators. This was already cannon in Star Trek TOS.
For me, Jeffrey Combs ruins every episode of Star Trek he is in. He has the slimiest mouth and most annoying way of speaking. He ruined a lot of Deep Space Nine and now this Voyager episode.
