Pay It Forward (2000)
This movie affected me a great deal...
I've read some of the comments on this page, and some of you are calling this movie overly idealistic, etc. Personally, I loved this movie, because it made me think about how i could change the world (i know its cliche). The fact is there's nothing wrong with that, and the world could use a lotta help.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS: Anyway, the acting performances were excellent, and I liked most of the supporting actors. However, I found the African American guy in jail a bit too stereotypical, and I had a hard time believing that the group of hoodlums that kill Trevor wouldn't have run away when they saw a teacher running towards them. Nonetheless, the ending showed that no matter how hard you try to improve the world, there will always be problems. All we can do is try to make it better.
I give this film an 8 out of 10
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
One of the most enjoyable films I have seen in a long time
I had high expectations for this film, and I am happy to say that this film fulfilled them. From the very beginning of the film, the viewer is drawn into the plight of the characters and roots for Frodo and the rest of the fellowship. The leads, including Elijah Wood and Viggo Mortensen, were very impressive, and several of the supporting players were standouts as well; the characters of Meriadoc and Peregrin come to mind. The soundtrack was wonderfully haunting, and the battle sequences, while maybe not Crouching Tiger caliber, were incredible nonetheless. This is not to say the film did not have faults. The female characters' time on screen was fleeting, and Legolas, Boromir, and Gimli had little to no character development. Despite these flaws, I give the film a 10!
Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933)
Good, but not great
I watched this film late last night, and while it held my attention, I did not find it nearly as enjoyable as many of the other horror films of the era (Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, etc.). First of all, the comic relief provided by Glenda Farrell seemed out of place, serving only to lessen the effectiveness of the film. Fay Wray's part was largely underdeveloped, and she appeared only in the last half of the movie.
(possible spoiler ahead)
Nonetheless, this movie had its moments, especially the part where Fay Wray slaps off Lionel Atwill's wax face! The creepy storyline also added to my enjoyment. Therefore, I give this movie 7 out of 10.
A Streetcar Named Desire (1951)
Sexy and intriguing
This was an excellent movie, no doubt in my mind. Vivien Leigh and Marlon Brando truly showcased their amazing acting abilities in this movie. This tragic yet compelling story was successfully carried out, and must say I fell in love with Brando's performance. One of the true classics. 10/10
The Outsiders (1983)
Good but not great...much better book
I saw this movie the day after I read the book, and although I found the movie to be interesting and touching, it was largely because of the charismatic cast, particularly Ralph Macchio and Matt Dillon. I think the movie could have been better if it was about a half hour longer and if the plot was developed more completely. If I hadn't read the book this movie would have probably left me confused because of the lack of plot development. Nonetheless, it was entertaining, but the book was much better. I give the movie a 7/10
