Impostor (2001)
Not Original
I tend to choose movies depending on who's playing in. I like Gary Sinise and Madeleine Stowe. That's the bottom line. Although I enjoyed the movie fine besides I like the actors, I as well felt it was not an original story at all. I don't mean it is boring, but if you are seeking something that really makes you feel something new, I wouldn't recommend it. In another word, YES, it IS predictable. And I should mention those torture/execution scenes are so gory.
Pay It Forward (2000)
I think we can do it
It was a very good chance to see this movie today, just one week after the tragedy. I know some people don't agree with the idea of "Pay It Forward", but thinking about the word "possible", and people who simply have never had a chance to think about what they can do for the world they live in, this movie may do something good for us.
Stigmata (1999)
Interesting
***** caution ***** mild spoiler ahead *****
Stigmata is a beautifully filmed, religiously a bit unique movie. The last 10 minutes was very meaningful to me. Then I realized that among the co-workers of Frankie (decently acted by Patricia Arquette), only person who was friendly and helpful to her was a black girl and other white people seemed to be afraid of her. Interesting.
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)
GOOD
This movie got exactly what I had expected: good action. That's it. It reminded me "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and those action scenes were that good. I wish I were a high school student so that I could have enjoyed this movie even more. I'm not sure if those teenagers, in this "everything is done by computer" era, can enjoy this type of special effects as much as I used to do, though.
And just wondering... are those breasts real??
Dr. T & the Women (2000)
huge disappointment
I hardly write a negative review. In fact, this is going to be the first one and I am sad about it.
I couldn't believe this movie was directed by the same person who directed "The Player". First of all, this movie doesn't have the main plot (or maybe there was one intended to be, but I couldn't find it). Second, directing and editing were so bad that I couldn't keep my concentration (actually, I interrupted watching several times). And final, but not the least thing - although there were a bunch of great actresses, none of them showed their real ability: Helen Hunt's character totally disappeared; Farrah Fawcett evaded her twilight with a ridiculously childish job; Laura Dern tried the same thing by unexplained drinking scenes. Maybe only good (not great) part was a tale of Liv Tyler and Kate Hudson's "relationship" - both these girls certainly have inherited an eccentric gene from their famous dad/mom, and I could see a good chemistry between them at a moment even in this totally frustrating movie.
Overall, this movie is a waste of talents and maybe your time, too. I can't recommend this movie to anyone at all.
What Women Want (2000)
What I wanted..
This movie wasn't very funny as a comedy. It wasn't great as a romance movie, either. What was good for me was Marisa Tomei was in it and I didn't know she was in at all until I rent this movie. It was a nice surprise. Although her role was somehow stupid and shallow, she did a great job as she always does. I wish her role were more important in this movie.
Overall, I would recommend you that you pay for it ONLY IF you are a big fan of Mel Gibson or Helen Hunt.
***** mild possible spoiler ahead *****
Oh, and I just forgot, Bette Midler was funny despite her very small role(uncredited). That part was worth watching.
One Fine Day (1996)
one fine movie
There is nothing to learn or makes me ponder in this movie, but it's just a sweet love-comedy that goes with a cup of milk tea or something. George Clooney is good, "cute and sexy" so to speak, even from a guy's point of view (just in case you wonder, I am male and heterosexual). Go watch it when you don't want to be buried in anything serious.
Cookie (1989)
a real gem
The story was just O.K. as an action comedy. Peter Falk did O.K. job as a boss of Mafia but not as good as his famous role, Columbo.
What I want to emphasize here is that I found Emily Lloyd, who played the hidden daughter of the boss, is an incredible actress. She is genius! I instantly became a big fan of hers as soon as she came up to the screen. I hope she appears on lots more movies.
Charlie's Angels (2000)
Fun Fun Fun
This movie doesn't have anything making you think seriously, but a pure FUN. Cheesy? yes. Predictable? Of course. But worth the money? Definitely!! I especially liked a character of Cameron Diaz here, she was sooo cute!! ;) If you like a good action movie with humor but without blood and gore, just go see it! I think I will watch it once again on screen.
The Getaway (1994)
The original is far better
This movie is not terribly bad as a crime story, but could have been much better. The major problem is weakness in storylines, particularly the relationship between main and sub plots. The writers should have put much more effort on it.
