Mario Party (1998 Video Game)
7/10
Still Marginally Fun
20 December 2001
Mario Party was a very unique game in 1999, but it has been copied a tremendous amount of times for the past 2 years. If given a choice, you should definitely check out one of the sequels instead, but the game is nevertheless fun to play today.

Get Shorty (1995)
Ummm, no it's not funny.

Wow, and I laughed hysterically at crap like Jane Austin's Mafia, Dirty Work, and Airplane 2. You can't even call this a good "dark comedy" because the characters are played too real. The plot is almost interesting, and I'd say it probably is somewhat original. However, I felt like I wasn't watching a story unfold, but more like John Trovolta and the rest of his gang showing off how cool they are.

Contact (1997)
some MAY like it....

Warning: Spoilers
You'll like it if you liked Twister.

I can sorta say how someone would like this movie, but I utterly hated it. I'd like it if someone would e-mail me to say why it deserved a 7.5. Anyways, I can point out a few things immediately that I didn't like. Firstly, the movie was completely scientifically incorrect. It's one thing if you want to be a borderline fantasy movie (a la Star Trek), but this one is trying to take place in the modern world. On top of that, it pretends that it's trying to say something, but in reality it's not (besides that all religious people are either bias and narrow-minded or anarchists). Secondly, it takes you out of reality ::cough, up coming spoiler::. When she comes back and no one believes her, this honestly destroyed any plot realism it had. There was evidence, why wouldn't they listen? It's not like anyone in D.C. cares about relgious groups..... OK, here's my biggest gripe. (big spoiler coming). Actually it isn't. There was so many flashbacks with her father, her father, and her father some more. And then when we see a shapeless CG thing coming at her, I wonder what it's gonna morph into? Wow, what a surprise. As I said at the top, if you liked Twister, you'll like this. I hated both for the same types of reasons. I usually like sci-fi. Honestly, I even had a penchant for Waterworld.....

Not horrble but...
13 May 2001
The rating is a bit too low for this movie. The movie is a far cry from the original, so that might have something to do with it. The acting is good, not great, with the best preformance by Weaver. The suspense is above average throughout. The horror isn't great, but the biggest offense is definetly the severe lack of comedy. I didn't laugh more than 2 or 3 times the entire movie.

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible!!
22 February 2001
I saw this at a local omni-theater and expected to get some teenager learning a bunch of useless info about dinosaurs. Instead, I get something much worse. 2/3 of the movie is spent with scientists nobody's heard of or sappy daughter-father relationship stuff. OK, the effects were half decent, but that by no means makes it a good movie. Non-existent plot, no educational value, and no fun.
