Held for Ransom (2000)
Five Teenagers Held Hostage
Held For Ransom starring Zachery Ty Bryan, Jordan Brower, and Randy Spelling, among others is set in the swamps of Florida. It centers around five high school students whose school bus is hijacked on the way home when they are the last of the passengers. The five teenagers taken off the bus, tied up, and taken deep into the swamps to a small house where they are to be held hostage. The kidnappers take an instant disliking to their male hostages. While the girls are untied, the three boys have their hands tied behind their backs the entire movie. The boys spend more than a few scenes locked in a small, hot shed. Bryan is even threatened with an alligator. The film has a basically good story. However, it is ruined by frequent use of foul language.
If I Die Before I Wake (1998)
Horror Adventure
If I Die Before I wake is a reletively short but effective horror movie that follows a family held hostage by burglars. We know little about the characters, but all play a very important role in the film. The film opens with brief shots of the family. Parents sleeping in one room. Teenage son Ben working at his computer in his room. The two sisters asleep in thier room. This is all we know of the characters when the burglars break down the door to the house. Lori Beth, the oldest sister. She hears the burglars enter and hides little sister Mary. Ben, listening to music over his headphones is quickly captured. He is heard yelling and seen being carried by to of the three burglars into his parent's room where they too are taken hostage. Lori Beth tried to escape but can't. After telling her sister to remain hidden, she sneaks into Ben's room and grabs one of his baseball bats as a weapon. She sees her family through the open door. Mom and Dad sitting on their bed hands tied behind their backs. Ben is laying on the floor also tied up. The burglars save a great deal of their fury for Ben. The rather big kid is beaten and kicked several times before he is gagged. The father, too is briefly gagged. From this point on, the movie is very violent. Lori Beth trails the burglars through the house until the end. The story is very good, but the excessive and constant violence and fouls language seems to spoil certain aspects of the film. All of the actors do a very good job in their roles. If you can take the violence, you will enjoy this movie.
The Last Chance Detectives: Escape from Fire Lake (1996)
Challenges to a teen's faith in God
This film revolves around faith in God to solve problems. It all starts as a group of teen detectives is walking down the street and stumbles across a bank robbery. Later, Mike, the detectives' leader is walking down the street and sees the robbers' truck and climbs in back to investigate. While in the truck, the robbers return and drive off. After several hours, Mike starts to write rescue notes on the stolen money. One of the robbers sees some of the money coming out of the back of the truck and goes to investigate. Upon opening the back of the truck, he finds Mike and immediately takes him hostage. Meanwhile, back in town the rest of the detectives and Mike's family is worried about Mike, not knowing of his kidnapping. Back in the truck, Mike is shown kneeling on the floor and his hands are being tied behind his back. While being tied up, Mike explains that he is a teen detective. Needless to say, the robber makes fun of him and tells of his plans for the young man. Later, the truck stops and Mike is taken out and untied. The robbers leave him by the side of the road and drive off. Mike is now alone in the desert and must find a way to survive. The movie is an exciting way to show how faith in God can help a person without being preachy. It is entertaining and highly recommended.
