So that´s what I called a bad, bad film... Poor acting, poor directing, terrible writing!!!! I just can´t stop laughing at some scenes, because the story is meaningless!!! Don´t waste your time watching this film... Well, I must recognize it has one or two good ideas but it´s sooooo badly writen...

A good surprise...

This film was a nice surprise for me in the last San Sebastian Film Festival... It´s not a perfect film but it has a lot of points of interest. Cinematography is great, as well as the soundtrack, based on electric music... It´s quite a mixture between Kieslowski´s films and Trainspotting´s style. It´s the story of a young woman who feels alone... and how she tries to end with her loneliness... The first half of the film is almost perfect, emotive, complex and beautifully filmed. Sadly, the end is under the expectations the film has created previously. But... It´s a nice film and deserves attention of critic and public.

Everything about this film was surrounded by mystery. The plot was secret and not many images of it were published... There were only rumors that there were a lot of sexual scenes, some of them very explicit... As a big fan of Julio Medem´s films, I was anxious of seeing "Lucía y el sexo"...
I left the cinema really shocked. I thought it was impossible for Medem to make a film better than "Tierra", a total masterpiece,... but I was wrong. "Lucía y el sexo" is nearly perfect... The plot is very complex, mixing different stories, past and present, reality and fiction, dreams and nightmares... But everything is in his place, creating a unity of harmony and beauty that goes directly to your soul and heart.
But it´s not only the plot... it´s the way Medem puts it in images that makes his films unique. The cinematography of Kiko de la Rica, the music of Alberto Iglesias and the light of Formentera submerge the viewer in the feelings and sensations of the main characters, which are excellently played by all the cast, specially by Najwa Ninri and Tristan Ulloa, who seems to be Julio Medem´s alter ego. I think there is a lot of truth and sincerity in this film, perhaps the one in which Medem more exposes himself to the public, talking about him.
And... what about sex? There is sex as never seen on film. Sweet, hard, painful, full of joy sometimes, plenty of bitterness, the others... But in "Lucía y el sexo" sex is not just sex, sex is love and passion.

Really a surprise!!!

Jurassic Park III was a pleasant surprise for me. I found "The Lost World" was stupid and boring, so I didn´t expect a lot for this third episode. But I was wrong... Jurassic Park III has more action, more thrills and more surprises than TLW by far! I really like the flying dinosaurs scene and it´s always a pleasure to see the Velociraptors in action.
And, of course, bringing back Sam Neill and Laura Dern to the serie was a really good decision... There characters are more interesting than Jeff Golblung´s Malcolm, and Sam Neill is an excelent actor! In contrast, I found Tea Leoni and William H. Macy -specially Leoni- deserve to end eaten by the dinosaurs. And I think Alessandro Nivola is a real discovery. I really like his acting, and I hope to see his character, Billy, in Jurassic Park IV!!! Alongside Neill and Dern, of course.
People say the movie is short... Well, I think it has the right length for this kind of fun-film... In these days, many films have the problem of being TOO long. They say the ending is bad. It´s no good, I agree. But the end of "Jurassic Park" was not better (Remember? The T-REX appears suddenly, eats the Velociraptor and allows humans to run to the helicopter and... that´s it). They say there are holes in the plot... I don´t agree: The script is simple but very effective. Some things are predictable or unbelievable? Yes... but this is an adventure film for just entertainment, not a quality film!!! It´s worth the seeing.

Astonishing!!!

It´s very hard to believe that this excelent amateur short film was made by such a young director. Amenabar was around nineteen when he shot "Himenóptero"! This is the clearest proof of natural born talent I have seen. With little money and means, Amenabar has created a small jewel of suspense with an end that´s really surprising. A clear precedent of his forthcoming masterpieces, like "Tesis" or "Abre los ojos".
