Your Honor (2020)
Jimmy Shergill's Best
Jimmy Shergill plays Judge Bishan Khosla with perfection, he brings out the dilemma Khosla is facing with subtle but strong performance, even when Khosla is furious, Shergill never goes over the top, it's his best performance till date. It was nice to see Mita Vashisht on screen after a long time, she plays Inspector Kiran Sekhon. Mita blends with her character easily and is able to show Kiran's frustrations and the belief that she can still do something good. In the scenes where Kiran gets angry Mita seems losing control over her acting, she could have done a better job in those scenes. Varun Badola portrays his character Kashi skilfully without putting much effort. Suhasini Mulay and Yashpal Sharma have also done a good job here.
Judge Bishan Khosla's dilemma and his actions are the biggest strength of the story of the show. Being an emotional thriller the pace of the story is very fast without losing focus on the emotional side of it. The series format lets you focus on other characters also rather than focusing only on main characters and the writers utilise it very well, but the other characters are not there just for the sake of it they contribute in moving the story forward. The way secrets start unfolding will keep you hooked to the show till the last episode, the last scene and the last shot of the show.
"Your Honour" is set in Ludhiana and that is refreshing because mostly films and shows are set in either Mumbai or Delhi as if the rest of India doesn't exist. Using the concept of migrant workers also goes in favour of the show, without using too much of time the makers succeed in showing migrant's plight in an alien state and how they are perceived by the natives and exploited by the gangsters of their own community. But basically the show is about a judge who follows every line, every word, written in the book of law, but finds it very hard to do so when his own son is found on the wrong side of the law. Once again I would like to say that Jimmy Shergill has done an incredible job here as Bishan Khosla the judge. I'll highly recommend that you watch "Your Honour" if you like fast paced thrillers which asks you a moral question. The end will give you a high voltage shock.
Gulabo Sitabo (2020)
Aao Kabhi Haveli Pe
"Aao Kabhi Haveli Pe"
Movie: Gulabo Sitabo
Duration: 2 hours 4 minutes
Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Ayushmann Khurrana, Vijay Raaz and Brijendra Kala
Director: Shoojit Sircar
Available on: Amazon Prime Video
Synopsis:
Mirza (Amitabh Bachchan) a 78 year old man is the owner of a dilapidated, almost 100 years old 'Haveli' (mansion). Baankey (Ayushmann Khurrana) one of the many tenants of the 'Haveli' hasn't paid any rent to Mirza for past three months and has no plans of doing so in the future. Mirza and Baankey always keep fighting over petty issues like light bulbs and broken toilet wall. The bickering between the two takes a new turn when Gyanesh (Vijay Raaz) from archaeology department and Christopher (Brijendra Kala) a lawyer hired by Mirza get involved.
Performances:
Amitabh Bachchan comfortably hides his charming and almost intimidating larger than life personality to play Mirza, he uses a hunched slow walking style to give Mirza the look of an annoying old man. He has done his job excellently. Ayushmann Khurrana is impressive in the scenes where his character Baankey is arguing with Mirza about the poor maintenance of 'Haveli', stolen property etc. Khurrana uses his tongue in a slightly abnormal manner while speaking, that makes every line he speaks hilarious. Vijay Raaz and Brijendra Kala make sure that they don't go unnoticed at all.
Story:
Well defined characters of Mirza and Baankey is one of the strongest points of the story of the film. The abuses both the characters throw at each other over frivolous issues make the movie entertaining, the dialogue writing is remarkable. Gulabo Sitabo never loses its grip, you keep discovering new things about the characters as the film progresses and this process goes on till the end of the movie. In the end the film gives a very deep message.
Classification:
There is no nudity or violence in the movie. The dialogue may not be very suitable for the young kids, the overall subject matter of the movie would be difficult for the kids to comprehend so my advice is that children should not watch this movie.
Conclusion:
Gulabo Sitabo revolves around Fatima Mahal a dilapidated mansion and the people who want to benefit from whatever is remaining of the building which once was almost like a Mahal (palace). Writer Juhi Chaturvedi and director Shoojit Sircar take a satirical look at never ending greed and how low a man can go to get what he wants. Makers of the film don't let the supporting characters go unnoticed either, they are well designed and enacted by talented actors. Women of this film are empowered and liberated, especially Guddo who is Baankey's sister, Fauzia his girlfriend and above all Begum. Finally, the main character of the film, Mirza, is a man you would hate if you meet him in real life, but the way this character has been designed and portrayed by Amitabh Bachchan you will fall in love with him, his pettiness, the cheap ways he resorts to get small amount of money and everything else he does in the film. The film ends with a message about what you should value in life. I'll strongly recommend Gulabo Sitabo to all those who love cinema.
