2*(n-5); for 1≤n≤10.
I personally rate movies with decimal points and mostly give scores above 5 stars, which leads to the 1-10 stars system not really working for me.
So I've decided to make this formula and rate movies based on that, so that the first 5 stars will also have some value.
Okay now that I got that off my chest,
I've loved making movies for as long as I can remember. To get better at what I love, I've decided to watch and give a quick review of movies that I think are worth watching.
I might make more in-depth reviews of movies, when I feel like it. Giving a rating seems to be scratching my movie-needs for the time being, so that's nice.

Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
2GenZ4U
The film strikes a good balance between stimulus overload and actually having a lesson to teach. Although the moral of the story has been told before, it is the mind bending form that sets this film apart. Though the film gets conceptual (and quirkily random UwU) really quickly, it does so with clarity and grace - Nolan take note. On the other hand, it does lose pace in the middle and desperately reiterates the same point. (Kinda like a kid telling a joke and asking if you got it, numerous times.) Also the setting gets a bit mundane as the film progresses.
All in all, the experience is worth it as the film attempts a striking a deeper note by allowing character transformations and reappraisals, something it's younger target audience can do well to follow.
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019)
No masterpiece but definitely interesting
After enjoying the film, I was dismayed to see the low ratings of it. Here's my take of someone who grew up with legos and likes to attach personal interpretations to a piece of media.
It's nice to see a blockbuster attempt a meta-narrative, a decent one at that imo, concerning themes as diversity, the duality of optimism-pessimism and ideals of masculinity. Having the characters become self-aware about the nature of their existence and seeing how each character deals with it, is an interesting topic to explore within the world of literal toys. This film felt like a piece of media that is relevant to our society and can only emerge from it, by using a staple of our era (i.e. Lego) to tell its story. Besides the content, the form is also appealing with its charming stop-motion lego aesthetics, reminiscent of amateur videos made during the early days of YouTube.
Granted, some of the criticisms I have read are grounded: the movie does go on for a bit too long, isn't extremely hilarious and does get a bit too moralistic. But nonetheless, I would still recommend the movie for the themes it explores. All in all, it was a pleasant experience.
Adventure Time: Distant Lands (2020)
Meh
Very mediocre, it seems clear that universal is bribing people to subscribe to hbo max. It should be seen as independent of the rest of adventure time, which helps saying goodbye to the show.
Horse Girl (2020)
Waste of time
Half way through the movie, I thought that there was no point the story.
After the ending, I was sure of it.
Killer Joe (2011)
Revolting
A redneck family makes poor decisions which keeps making the setting worse. Every character lacks any redeeming quality and the trailer park setting does not help make the movie more pleasant.
I remember having seen some scenes when I was 9 and that it left a huge impact on me. Now that I rewatched it, I understand why I had such an extreme emotional response to it.
Disgusting is the one word that kept coming to mind. I had to watch the movie in 4 sittings to get through it and was it worth it. The excruciating experience of the final scene alone makes the whole movie worth it.
Watch this if you are ready for an over the top movie that doesn't take your appetite into consideration.
Men in Black (1997)
Good Entertainment
I never saw this movie in its entirety and now that I have, it doesn't really make too much of a difference.
This movie is entertainment in its purest form: strange premise and good production quality.
7.9/10
Falling Down (1993)
Good
Well put together movie, good acting and a pointless story.
Loved it.
7.6/10
Hardcore Henry (2015)
interesting concept, ok execution
Despite the obvious inspirations from other action movies, there some elements that make this film standout. I'm not only referring to the position of the camera, which to be fair, is kind of gimmicky and reminds me of a FPS game. The idea of watching a video game and removing its main charm (being its interactivity) might be kind of weird but it actually works out quite fine. The few cheesy jokes that are made in the film fulfill their purpose of being a contrast to the action and getting a slight chuckle out of the audience. The stunts are over the top, as in any action movie and, in my opinion, pretty cool.
I was surprised to see that the story became a little bit more than a reason to go to different locations. It actually has a couple of characters that seemingly pop in and out of existence, which is perfectly fine for this kind of movie. The characters are semi memorable. The 'semi' is mostly due to the fact that there isn't a lot of time spent talking, but as we all know: actions say more than words.
The editing is alright, I like the parts where two scene are seamlessly cut together, making me wonder which transitions where so seamless that I didn't pick up on the cut. At certain points in the movie, however, it does become clear that it isn't a Hollywood movie and 'only' had a budget of 2 million.
So, in short, watch this movie if you've watched too many James Bond movies and are willing to try something alternative.
7.5/10
The Departed (2006)
Top notch
First of, the editing in this movie is snappy and makes this 2,5 hour movie interesting at all times. Acting, also top notch, with very recognizable faces, which is okay. The story is pretty clear cut but at times hard to follow, which isn't a drawback per se. I also very much enjoyed the ending. Of course some things are unbelievable but that didn't take away from the immersion in this film.
Other than the editing and some parts of the storie, the movie doesn't really have an identity as it doesn't have a clear story to tell. By the end of the movie I was shocked but didn't know what to take away from it.
Watch this film if you want a top notch cops-and-robbers movie and have a lot of time to spare.
Captain Marvel (2019)
marvel stopped trying long ago
We're all going to watch their movies either way. It's actually a pretty entertaining movie but doesn't make a lot of sense.
Ex Machina (2014)
nice
Okay, to start off, I really liked how the plot of this movie developed. Of course, some things aren't 100% believable, but that's what you get with movies about such futuristic concepts.
The acting is spot on, music is grade A and the visuals are done very well. The ideas this movie brings out are also interesting, as I found myself asking moral questions based on what happened in the movie. The structure and length of the movie also played to its benefit: it isn't too long that it becomes boring and new ideas are being explained at a good pace.
So, if you're looking for a good and appealing movie about AI, this is for you.
