Love (2016)
Just not good, terrible time suck
Do yourself a favor and skip this series. I really don't understand all the hype about how realistic and great this show is. Realistic? Not even remotely. The only redeeming quality of this lousy show is Gillian Jacobs. Even she can't save this show from Paul Rust. I got midway through the second season and was done. Life is too short to watch awful series and movies. We only have so much time to allocate, and this show just isn't worth it.
I'm sure all the Apatow fan boys will
Love this one. I loathe it. Every character is the least endearing version of that person. It's amazing a show can pull the ugliness and vileness out of each character.
The Righteous Gemstones (2019)
Not good
I could only make it through the first 3 episodes, as that's my standard for shows. Honestly, I was done with this after one episode and a part of the second. Adam Devine's character is a complete waste of talent. The rest of the ensemble cast look great on paper, but the writing and the jokes for this series fall flat time and again. I'm not quite sure how this is going on a fourth season. Very disappointing all over. I'm surprised at all the positive ratings and reviews for this show. If this is what we cal humor in 2024 then I'm sorry, we are lost. I'm not sure if they're going for a comedy or a drama or both. Either way this misses the mark badly.
Last Night in Soho (2021)
Not mesmerizing just a bloody mess of a film
This film has way too many problems to be considered worth watching. A jumbled mess, too many plot holes in the story and the acting is wooden. Other than that, you get to hear some 60's soul music from the UK. This film is trying too hard to be important. A story that's nonsensical and goes nowhere. Jumping from present day to the 60's makes zero sense. Oh wait let's throw in a few recognizable Brits that people will recognize from Netflix or some other place. Our this is a film people find mesmerizing or good in any way, then I've no words for that. It's a big bad mess of a film. That's all I've got.
Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)
Upon Further Review...
...make sure to watch this again at alt. I think you may find this is really a work of art, perceived. However the execution was not well done. Just give it a try.
From the specific details that capture the 80's, but it also has more nuanced messages around organized religion, reforming individuals, groupthink and other very timely topics. I'm actually quite surprised that more people haven't loved it. I know sequels were made and perhaps that is wear some guilt by association may happen. Be that as it may, the original still holds up very well, even more than 35 years later. For a movie that was released early in the video age, it is also surprising it wasn't more popular.
The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)
Ripped off
Director Yorgos tries his best again to be creative and shocking and falls well short on both accounts. He clearly copies Kubrick all the way down to the Penderecki music. He also steals from Michael Haneke. Yorgos movies are a waste of time.
X (2022)
Disjointed and not creative
I expected a lot more from this movie. It felt a lot like a reboot of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Too many similarities and the overall story is hardly believable. Disappointed as Ti West has made some good movies before. This is not one of them.
February (2015)
Just not good
As other reviewers have stated, this movie is a mess. Disjointed throughout. Maybe one or two scary moments and a lot of nonsense. Don't waste your time.
Mindhunter (2017)
Horrible pacing
I can't continue watching this show. I've never watched a show with such horribly paced dialogue. There are no pauses in between lines. It's like watching a horrible middle school acting club. Awful.
Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel (2021)
Web "sleuths", shhhhhhhh.
This was basically a four part miniseries about an unsolved case. Every single web sleuth that was shown were beyond annoying, ignorant and looked for wild conspiracy theories. Please get another hobby. What an annoying bunch of online losers.
Crazy, Not Insane (2020)
Garbage in, garbage out
The "research" presented by this doctor is not objective. Her opinions are biasing any work she's done here. Another crusader, excusing abhorrent behavior. DID is questionable at best, and very likely does not exist. How could a serial murderer be able to elude authorities, keep it from friends and family?
Stranger Things (2016)
Over hyped
An ode to the 80's goes sideways. I mean does anyone check the release date on songs from The Bangles(1987), etc, in a show that is supposed to begin in 1983. The acting is subpar and let's be honest, Winona Ruder may be one of the worst actors of all time. She is an albatross around the show's neck. This is also perhaps one of the most overhyped shows of all-time. Pass me a Tab.
Begotten (1989)
Too self absorbed to be disturbing
The most shocking part of this film is that the director was able to parlay this into a feature film directing spot. This is self indulgent, slow ego worship garbage. That's putting it nicely.
Seinfeld (1989)
The Greatest
This is the greatest show of all-time. Not much else needs to be said.
Savageland (2015)
A decent mockumentary
This film started out well and I'll have to say it looks close to a usual documentary. However the story lags and leaves too many unanswered questions to be as good as it could have been. An average film.
Galaxy of Terror (1981)
Bad, but good
Early 80's low budget bad movie. What sets this apart from others is the cast. How can you go wrong when it consists of "Freddy Kruger", My Favorite Martian, Joanie from Happy Days and George Costanza's mother-in-law?
