The Girl from Plainville: Talking Is Healing (2022)
Excellent Episode Depicting Teen Mental Health
This was a fascinating episode that finally gave the audience some insight into the critical time period of the weeks before Coco's suicide. Kudos to the casting and acting talent. Elle Fanning and Colton Ryan are perfect, and I'm always impressed watching the talents of Chloe Sevigny and Norbert Leo Butz. But it's the writing and direction here (particularly in this episode) that make it so special. The teen mental health issues depicted in this episode for both main characters are written with sensitivity and and truthfulness. You really get a sense of their pain. The only distraction sometimes is wondering what parts are the "real" documented facts and what is speculation. But it's so well written and acted that it really doesn't matter. My thanks to all the creative team for taking a thoughtful and serious look at a subject that would have been so easy to depict in an exploitive and sensational way. I greatly look forward to the remaining episodes.
Lost in Space: Ninety-Seven (2019)
Excellent Ending to an Excellent Season
I'll admit that my hopes were not very high after watching all of last season. But for this season the writers came up with some amazing episodes. Great writing and acting--I truly felt emotional in certain episodes. The family aspect of this was very realistic as a family caught in an amazingly stressful situation. The "Dr. Smith" character was actually fleshed out this season (as opposed to just being a predictable annoyance last season). The music was wonderful. And of course, the special effects were probably the best I have seen for a television production. My kudos to an amazing cast and crew. I look forward to Season 3! (just don't make us wait as long as we had to for Season 2). Great job!
A Million Little Things: Save the Date (2018)
Real friendship. Real pain
Great episode. Loved the way the main plot point was revealed to multiple characters. Gary's last words to Eddie in the episode about "real life" are among this things that make this show refreshing and interesting. Great acting, directing, and writing all around. Three shows in and the producers are keeping things interesting and real. Excellent honest, depiction of adult male friendship. I'm keeping my hopes up for at least a full season order. Very impressed.
