Mulan (2020)

A Wonderful Live Action Tribute to the Original

Anyone who grew up watching the original animated version of Mulan was probably hesitant to watch the live action version of it. I must say that I was hesitant but glad that I watched it. The movie held true to the storyline and remained clean throughout the movie so I would feel safe watching this movie with children.

The acting and flow of the movie was solid. It was easy to follow along. I was also glad to see some familiar faces like Jason Scott Lee and Gong Li. I really liked the fighting sequences especially when one of the warriors shot arrows from behind his back! I think anyone who just wants to see a good action/adventure movie would really enjoy seeing this movie!

The movie is not one of Hollywood's mainstream movies but there is still some quality to it. I can tell the movie crew did the very best they could with the budget they had. For me, the acting was the best part. Everyone was believable. I also like the different spin on the classic Snow White tale.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018)

A satisfying exit to the maze...

I like this trilogy ending. I watched this movie because I wanted to see Minho rescued. Because Teresa proves to be a traitor and there is no chemistry between her and Thomas, I am honestly not upset about Teresa's end. I am glad that she redeems herself even though it is at the last possible moment. It is also nice to see an old face return from one of the previous movies. I did not see that coming! Again, there is plenty of action and adventure for the action junkies! Lol

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015)

Bittersweet but overall good...

I was looking forward to seeing the second installment of this movie trilogy. I was not disappointed in action and adventure. The movie has plenty of it! Outside of the kids cussing, the primary reasons why I have downgraded my rating is because one, the "cranks", two, the storyline itself and three, the supposed love story. I'm not big on the zombie thing anymore. This movie does well without the zombie stuff. The storyline loses me a little because the reason for testing the kids doesn't make sense in relation to finding a cure to the Flare disease. How does testing brain activity in times of stress create a cure for a disease that's obtained by getting bitten? Especially since the movie showed that the kids were clearly able to get infected just as easily as anyone else. Thirdly, the romance between Thomas and Teresa...I had no idea they even liked each other! I did not get that from the first movie at all. And honestly, the story has so much content that a romance is not needed. So, like I said, bittersweet...but overall, good.

The Maze Runner (2014)

The best of the three to me...

Personally, this first movie of the trilogy has been my favorite so far. I think it's because I like the character build-up when you get a chance to learn the main characters. My favorites have been Thomas and Minho. I really like seeing the day and the life in the Glade. I also like the mystery where Thomas is trying to discover who he is and what's going on. The story unfolds well with truths being revealed little by little along the way but not so much to where you're no longer wondering what's going to happen next. The acting is very good. The only part I don't think is okay is the cussing by the children. I will never advocate for children cussing. Other than that, I think the filmers did a good job in keeping the movie clean and enjoyable.

Mirror Mirror (I) (2012)

Again and again...

I enjoy this movie SO much! It's the kind of movie I can watch again and again. Julia Roberts was the perfect person for the role of the queen. She definitely gave the character a fun personality. I like that fresh faces were brought in for the lead roles. They were all casted well. I like the relationship between Snow and the Prince. I wish there could've been more encounters between them so the audience could really see their relationship flourish and unfold. The dwarfs were absolutely amazing and so much fun! They kept me laughing; especially Half Pint lol.

The only thing that doesn't help the story is Snow's training. Of course, I'm glad the training was shown. It just wasn't realistic to believe that she turned into a warrior princess overnight and able to swipe swords with the Prince; someone who's believed to be an expert swordsman.

Overall, I'm overjoyed with this movie and would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes laughs, romance and adventure!

The NeverEnding Story (1984)

A Kid Once More...

Overall, I like the movie. I like that the story inspires creativity, imagination and provides solid morals. I adore the adventure of Atreyu. You get to experience the highs and lows of his venture while discovering new creatures and a new imaginary world. The only pitfall is the nude female statue of the two Sphinx. That is highly inappropriate for a kid's movie. I wish there was a way to censor that for viewing. Other than that, it's a good classic.

House of Flying Daggers (2004)

Just beautiful through and through...

I absolutely ADORE this movie! I like the storyline and plot twist. The acting is fantastic and very believable. I have yet to watch the movie once without at least tearing up. I truly enjoy the martial arts and stunts. I could watch the fight sequences over and over again. Ziyi Zhang is one of my favorite actresses. This movie did her justice. I would definitely recommend this film to anyone who loves a perfect blend of romance, action and thrill!

Jack and the Beanstalk (2009)

A touch of 90s classic with the modern vibe...

Overall, it was a good movie. My favorite character was Grayson. I liked his sense of humor. In the beginning when they showed how Jack had a crush on a mysterious girl, I was concerned that the movie would lose it's G rating like some other movies with kids but the movie was kept clean. At times, the dialogue was a bit confusing. I believe it was because the writers were trying to introduce an interesting concept or moral but was having a hard time simplifying it. The storyline is fairly easy to follow. The different twists and turns of the story left the story interesting and with some questions. Like, what happened to the father after he escaped? But, as I said, it was an overall good movie. I like that there is a bit of a 90s vibe to it. It makes the movie more wholesome.

Laura (1944)

A crime film like no other...

This is my all-time favorite film noir and for good reason. The plot twist alone gives me whiplash! This story has a very rare twist. The storyline is creative and flows well. The story is a challenge to unfold and is done tastefully. I thoroughly enjoy this film and recommend it to others.

Kansas City Confidential (1952)

A storyline that flows very well...

I absolutely adore this film. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time! The plot was well written. I liked the way the story unfolded. The plot twists were surprising and a delicious treat. I recommend this film to anyone who adores film noirs.
