Sh'at Neila (2020)
Israeli war drama & lationo soap opera mix
First three episodes are very good. Proper war drama. Even if it was cheap war drama, with bad CGI and toy props, it still was very good war drama. But then came fourth episode and everything changed. Most of war drama has changed into dumb soap opera with emotions exaggerated below sane level and full dose of socialists propaganda. I watched a lot of modern, pro-Soviet Russian war movies and even they knew when to stop, when enough is enough, so the movie/tv series won't become ridiculous. Valley of Tears makers crossed that line too many times. Shame. It could have been so good...
Greyhound (2020)
The best of the naval warfere movies since The Enemy Below or Das Boot
I know it's too short for a "proper" war movie (Less than 90 minutes? Outrageous!). And I know it's a very short adaptation of a long novel. But I've read tens in not hundreds of books written by war submarine and destroyers commanders or historicians and I feel this movie is nearest to perfection of any other movie I've ever seen. Shortness of this movie made it harder to understand in technical matters but also cut all unnecessary sociological (and so on) dramas (except of shaking hands and tight boots, but the last one is so pure Polish :D). Why I didn't give 10/10? Cause the only Polish destroyer sunk during Atlantic convoys was ORP Orkan, which was a british M-class destroyer, and in movie they sunk ORP Victor (callsign Eagle), which was Grom-class destroyer.
Bitva za Sevastopol (2015)
Soviet propaganda strikes back
With a little help of a romance and a very mediocre entertaining we've got a semi-real story of the best Soviet sniper-woman. It's far from real life (as historians proved that she was lying about her life many times) and it's full of Soviet propaganda - only Soviet/Russians were real victims of II World War, only they were brave and only they have to take losses. Watch it, but be aware of it.
Most Dangerous Game (2020)
Classic of the Classics
Nearly one hundred years ago Richard Connell wrote a short story, which was an inspiration for Philip K. Dick, Roger Zelazny and Robert Sheckley. Now it was an inspiration for Scott Elder, Josh Harmon and Nick Santora and we've got a very good movie/miniseries (it's about 90minutes total, so call it what You like). A good thrill and suspense with a simple story - it's very rare thing this times. What's more, it's the best acting in Liam Hemsworth's career, and his pardner is Christoph Waltz, one of the best actors ever (we can thank coronavirus, that now he plays in a tv series too). Show has some flaws, like Looger's thread, but still, it's the best 2020 (finished) tv show yet.
Sekretnoe oruzhie (2019)
Terrible, terrible...
It was the worst Russian war movie I've ever seen. It's terrible in every possible way. Acting is so bad so You may think, that You're watching war movie parody. But it's not parody. Seriously. Screenplay is extremely dumb and for people with that intelect level only. The best thing in this movie is camerawork, which is mediocre. The worst - Stalin-like Soviet propaganda, which shows NKVD murderers as heroes. This movie is not just waste of time. It's detrimental.
Bozkir (2018)
Not good, not bad
I don't know how this show got more than 8/10. Story is great and intriguing, but narration is mediocre. And there's much too much blabbing. Everyone's blabbing. It's worse than soap opera. Even some dying one's are constantly blabbing. Acting is uneven. Yigit Özsener is quite good, Nur Fettahoglu too, but on the other side is Ekin Koç. And Altan Erkekli - pure acting tragedy, especially in his last scene. Another thing. I hope real Turkish Polis officers are not so unprofessional and clumsy as those in Bozkir. They even don't know how to use fingerprints - if they do, this show would be not ten, but six or seven episodes long. And how Nuri got his promotion to Lieutenent is the greatest mystery in the world. He's the worst policeman I've ever seen in movie or tv series. To sum up, if not some brilliant scenes, that saved this show (the last one with Bülent Düzgünoglu is pure fun), exotic sceneries, people and their habits, I would have given it even less stars. So, if You're not Turkish or fan of soap operas, or if You're policeman, or You're used to better quality of crime dramas, watching this show could be a challenge.
Zrodzeni do szabli (2019)
Everything You would like to know about Polish Sabre
Yes, it isn't American production made with million of dollars. It isn't silly-funny. It's not another documentary of '...for Dummies' genre. It's not another 'how to made real Polish sabre out of kitchen ware in 24 hours'. It isn't politically correct too. So what is it? It's pure, 100% substantial source of knowledge about Polish Sabre and how those helped to make one of the greatest European empires of XVI and XVII century. It's about hearts and souls of men who wielded Polish Sabre on thousands of battlefields from XV to XIX century. I know that 'Born For The Sabre' treats this topic rather briefly, but still, there's no better documentary about it. If You love military history, You can't walk by. If You don't love military history, after watching 'Born For The Sabre' You probably will.
Robin Hood (2018)
O God, it is bad...
(I'm sorry for my English. Ant Attitude. And whatever). Well, it is really, really bad Robin Hood movie. I don't know, what happened with Hollywood Screenplay Writers, but every Robin Hood movie after last but one Robin Hood movie is dumber and dumber. I mean, last time there was Robin "Evil French D-Day" Hood, with Russell Crowe, which was soooo dumb (watching it sober might get You bigger PTSD than four tour in sandbox), but this one, Dear Hollywood Writers, is real dumb masterpiece. And it is so politically involved (aligned, commited to, engaged), so I don't know, if it's more dumb or funny. Ok, I'm kidding. It's more dumb than funny. Much, much more. So watch it at Your peril.
Dragged Across Concrete (2018)
Much ado about nothing?
(Excuse my English. And attitiude. And whatever)
Yes. It's long-winded (or wordly? - did I excuse for my English?) and too long to be a good movie. At least one hour longer than it should be. Some time ago there was a Polish comedy about Polish dramas, which called those as "movies about the little girls in tight shoes". Well, "Dragged Across Concrete" is movie about cops in tight shoes. I know that this time protagonists have to be socialised, but this is triumph of form over content. Too much, too long, rather boring than fascinating. And if Mel dies in such stupid ways once again, I'll never watch any new movie with him. Howgh. P.S. I worked in Police, my best friend is (still) a Policeman, but this movie is so... pfffff...
