Ghost Adventures (2008)
Love this show!
Hilariously bad and entertaining. I love all the over acting and horrid acting. It just makes this show so much better. You see, I don't believe in ghosts but I can understand why people believe in ghosts and how it relates to religion. This show is so staged and all the gadgets and electronics have been proven fake. There are some hilarious articles about it. Anyways, I recommend this show if you want a good laugh.
The Shape of Water (2017)
Fish Sex the Movie
Let me first start with the things I liked about this film. I enjoyed the cinematography and acting. I also thought the creature design was interesting. But these things for me can't fix an overall broken movie.
Firstly the messages in the story were quite forced. There were obviously messages of racism and other such discrimination against different groups. It all felt very forced and I never felt like when the messages where delivered they were being said by the characters with personalities and not some Hollywood writer. The pacing felt all over the place and felt rushed near the end. There were some minor problems also like how their were shell casings coming out of a revolver. I felt like it was trying to be artsy but it came off as uncomfortable and unfitting.
Child's Play (2019)
Go f@&$ yourself
This movie hurt me on a mental and physical level I did not think was truly possible but I was just proven wrong.
Suspiria (2018)
Fine but Confused Movie
The first 2/3 of this movie were actually pretty good. I enjoyed the concept and the acting was fairly good. I think this movie falls flat on the delivery of those concepts. The cinematography was great and the characters were great.
One of the things I thought this movie was missing that the original had was a memorable score. In one of the final scenes of the movie Dakota Johnson is a part of this cult like sacrifice. That whole scene was in my opinion was the worst scene of the movie. It felt like a crappy music video and it was kind of disappointing to see the whole movie build up to this final scene and it turned out to be a CGI mess.
Now what did I think of the rest of the movie? I thought the tone was really well done. It hit you at the edge of your seat and kept me engaged. I enjoyed the cinematography and it was very visually pleasing. What I didn't care for was the editing. I found myself confused weather it was a stylistic choice or just bad editing. Either way I found it distracting.
If you were a fan of horror then I would recommend the first 2/3 of this movie. If not I would give this one a pass.
Joker (2019)
Great Movie!
This dark movie sets the bar for DC very high. It is a hard movie to describe without spoiling but I will try my best.
One of the main things this movie achieves is tone. The tone perfectly shows our main characters struggles and challenges which led him to madness. It goes from funny and unnerving to sad and sympathetic while still keeping a coherent story. It doesn't dwell on scenes to long and it shows the audience just the right amount to keep them engaged. The acting was good throughout The Whole film and it felt like real people talking and not actors.
One of the main problems I had with it was a sorta day dream sequence. It felt out of place and they could have presented the same information in a more interesting and creative way. It wasn't that big of a problem, I just thought is was a missed opportunity.
All in all, great film.
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
A true masterpiece
It is an incredible film with mind blowing effects. From the acting to the sets it is completely flawless. This film looks fantastic, even by today's standards. It is also amazing how Kubrick interpreted the future when this came out before the moon landing. This film probable isn't for everyone though. If you have trouble paying attention or listening to long dialogue scenes (which isn't a bad thing, i'm not trying to be pretentious) than this film probable isn't for you.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (2019)
Good ideas, poor execution
This movie on a technical standpoint is actually really impressive. The way the puppets move in and interact with the environment around them is very immersive. I never felt board while watching it and I thought that the characters were well developed. Unfortunately where it falls flat is the story and the voice acting. Not to say that the original had good voice acting but with this one felt some how more cheesy. To be honest the first episode was terrible but it progressively got better until about the seventh episode when everything starts to fall apart.
I was surprised that they actually had the balls to kill off some of the characters but it seems as the show went on the deaths of others don't affect the other characters. For example the queen gets killed and the daughter is grieving over the death but once her friends and sisters all start to die she seems to not care as much.
The people making this film obviously cared about the original source material and they really want to make a fun and imaginative prequel to the 80s film. I felt like they had a overabundance of CGI even though they set out to use a lot of puppets and practical effects. However, it just ended up being sloppy and not that pleasing to look at.
In conclusion, it made me feel like they really care about the original movie and they obviously wanted to make something for both old and new generations. But somewhere along the line when they're juggling the two generations and try and make it apply to all they lost the charm of the original and that is this film's biggest fault.
Son of Frankenstein (1939)
There's not much good here.
There are only two good thinks about this movie and that is that Bela Lugosi's and Boris Karloff's acting is on point and the makeup effects are passable. You can tell that Boris and Bela are giving it there all but it just couldn't save this movie. The makeup is nothing compared to the original though. The story is bland and unoriginal. They couldn't even get James Whale back to direct it. It was a dumb cash grab.
Dracula (1931)
Good old fashion cheese
Cheesy, fun, and entertaining. This movie was such a influential phenomena that I don't think monster movies could exist with out it.
Spielberg (2017)
Inspiring
I love this documentary. It not only touch's on Spielbergs film life but what led him to start doing what he does. It covers his whole life and it is absolutely fascinating. The only problem I had with it was that in one of the sections they talk about one of his movies and how it got poor reception. It was a different style from his other films and people in the documentary excuse it like it was a perfect movie and how the audience didn't like it because it wasn't what Spielberg usually does and not that the film had some problems.
Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991)
Wow... just wow
Me and my brother couldn't stop laughing. I rated it seriously but it is hilarious. They must have known that it was a movie not to be taken seriously.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Masterpiece
I am not going to say anything about this movie. You just have to experience it for your self.
Toy Story 4 (2019)
Spectacular
The story is new and the animation is amazing. There was know real bad guy but there still was tension in the story. It was fun, mind blowing, and actually got a laugh out of me. One problem I had with it was that the theme of the movie was the same as the past two movies but it still had a new story to fit the theme. They could have played it safe and just remake toy story 3 but they took a risk and it payed off.
28 Weeks Later (2007)
Fun and Stupid Action Movie
It was entertaining but it didn't have the same artist style as the first. This isn't a movie you can really enjoy right after watching the first. It is a dumb action movie with dumb characters with awesome cinematography. It had one of the best opening scenes but the acting was mediocre. It is fun to watch and it wasn't ever boring.
The Strangers (2008)
Boring and uninteresting
It plays it self like serious film put it is another crappy try at being scary. It tries to set up the film like it is a true story even though it is obvious it is not. The acting is terrible and the characters are so unlikable. It's biggest crime is that it's not scary. The only frightening parts are cheap jump scares but there easy to see from a mile away. The ending is stupid because the home invaders take off there masks when killing the couple and don't even make sure the wife is dead.
Misery (1990)
One of my Favorite Stephen King Movies
You would think that a movie where the whole setting is in a singular bedroom for almost the entire movie that the movie would be pretty boring. Wrong! The premise of the movie is that a writer gets into a car crash in the middle of a blizzard hurting both his legs and someone who claims to be his biggest fan takes him in and keeps him in there house until he gets better. The person who takes him in gets angry because in the writers latest novel in a series, he kills off her favorite character. The physical and phycological torture put on the main character makes that movie some much more suspenseful. This master piece wouldn't be possible without the main antagonist who is played by Kathy Bates. Kathy Bates brings so much to her role that it is scary. The way she can be happy and cheerful and then turn into a deranged lunatic in the same scene is just incredible. I was sitting down watching Misery with my brother who was working on a couple short story's around that time and half way through the movie he turns to me a says 'I don't want to be a writer anymore'. I would definitely give this movie a watch.
Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988)
Was Fine Until the End
This Friday film compared to all the others is probable one of the better ones in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, it is not a good movie on any level but it is still entertaining. The whole premise of the movie is that a bunch of teens go to Camp Crystal Lake to have sex and do drugs. But there's this telekinetic girl who lives near Camp Crystal Lake. She killed her dad when she was really young and is haunted by her past. Jason Voorhees then starts killing the teen one by one and it is up to the telekinetic girl to stop him. It is you average Friday movie except for two things. Firstly, Jason is now played by Kane Hodder and he is easily the best part of this movie. All the stunts involved with Jason getting the crap beat out of him are stunt which Kane Hodder insisted on doing himself. Secondly, Jason and the telekinetic girl are both equally matched and it lead to a fun last 30 minutes. The movie was manageable up to the end of the film when the telekinetic girl resurrects her dead dad to defeat Jason. This is easily the dumbest ending in all of the Friday the 13th series. If you like dumb slasher films than give it a watch.
A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985)
Not Worth the Time
You have to actually try to get a Nightmare on Elm Street movie this wrong. Robert Englund looked like he didn't want to be there, the characters where so unlikable, and non of them could act. I know that the Elm Street movies never had good acting in them but this is a whole new level of bad acting. I can give it credit for not being to long and also some of the gore wasn't that bad but I would give this movie a pass.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)
Funny and Creative
Killer Klowns is avery entertaining movie. It is fun to just site down and watch with some freinds on a late Friday night. It is dumb, goofy, and one of the most enjoyable movie experiences I have had in a long time. The acting wasn't great but what do you expect from a B-movie.
