Zhui bu (2017)
Underrated John woo film
I found this to be a very well paced and exciting film with some great chase sequences and of course John woo's signature gunplay. Well not a very original plot (guy gets accused and flees the law and in the process also finds the true perpetrator *cough "The Fugitive"), but unlike most ripoffs of the Fugitive the action surrounding the plot of this movie is still very impressive. Another gripe I do have with this film is that they have a lot of English lines for Chinese actors who clearly don't speak English at least not very well. This makes a lot of the lines feel really clunky and unnatural. Overall very entertaining, and while not perfect I think it's technical merits do warrant a slightly higher score than most people are giving it
Insee Tong (1970)
Has its Moments but not really worth your time
I stumbled across this film in a used movie store and I'm kind of happy I watched it simply for the feeling of accomplishment. There are parts that made me laugh like crazy and a few quotable lines on account of the horribly executed subtitles like: "You disguised as a f*g!" "No wife touching for a whole year!" "Beatards!" "How dard you!". It isn't quite incompetent enough to be funny as say "Robo-Vampire" but still I don't feel disgusted with myself for watching it so...there's that. Apparently the creator and star of this movie Mitr Chaibancha tragically died in the final stunt of this film and he has my respect for being willing to do his own stunts and I hope he is remembered fondly for that. Overall, it was kind of really boring and can't say I'll ever watch it again. The plot was ridiculous and the central protagonist didn't get the screen time he deserved. There weren't enough parts that made me laugh and this felt like more of a chore to watch. I feel it deserves a 2/10
But maybe someone else will get more enjoyment from it than I did
Who Killed Captain Alex? (2010)
This represents everything a movie should be
So many movies out there today or just lazily thrown together to make money or they're made by people who are completely clueless as to what a movie is. Who killed captain Alex is a perfect example of a movie that was made by someone who both cares and understands what makes a Movies great. This movie has everything I want to see in a movie. Great action (and I mean really great action), it has good music, it's absolutely hilarious, endlessly quotable lines, and The actors in it look like they're having the time of their lives. The fact that this was made for only $200 shows that a Movie never has an excuse to be terrible because it has a "low budget". I can't recommend the movie enough. It legitimately is one of my favorite movies now
Soul Hunters (2019)
Omy god. What a forgettable piece of crap
The YouTuber who made this film seemed like a sort of person who would make a film that appealed to action fans. I was hoping to find sort of hidden gem of a movie... I This movie is so boring I can't even be enjoyed as a so bad it's good movie. The fact tha this movie is so boring I can't even be enjoyed as a so bad it's good movie. I know the number one excuse is probably that they didn't have a very big budget, but the problem isn't with the special effects or anything that would require a lot of money. The only thing that would've been required was some actual thought and you know people who know how to write. And the acting, oh my God "acting", you have to see it to believe it (but please don't, seriously). The only thing that could've redeemed it could have been the fight scenes. And yet they are one of the worst parts of this movie. They're usually just between the two same characters in a very obvious set piece with really uninteresting choreography that doesn't demonstrate any knowledge of martial arts or fight scenes. Two things I thought the creators of this movie had. I literally couldn't stay awake for the entire second act and I just fast forwarded to the end to see if it redeemed itself in anyway in the third act. It Has to be the very laziest ending I have ever seen in my entire life. It's actually painful for me to bring up details right now of this so-called film. Just don't watch this like seriously do not do not do not do not. All the positive reviews are definitely fake. There's no way anyone in their right mind would like this
Sutorîto faitâ II gekijô-ban (1994)
I loved it and I'm not even a fan of anime
Cheesy dialogue, mild stereotypes
and a few one dimensional characters are really the only qualms I have with this movie. Not being a fan of anime some of the character expressions looked kind of weird to me but that's just a personal thing and it didn't hinder the rest of the viewing experience. Character expressions aside, I loved the visual style of the movie and the design of the characters was bursting with creativity and effectively brought to life set pieces that captured the backdrops of the video game in the very best way. I also loved the fight scenes. The music accompanying them worked fantastically, and they were no lazy, annoying cuts. It's clear the creators of this film actually cared and weren't just trying to cash in on the street fighter fandom by half-heartedly throwing together a horrible movie and giving it worldwide theatre release. I can recommend this to both fans of the game and also those who love a good martial arts movie
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Could have been so, so, so much better
I'll just keep this brief. This movie is thoroughly overrated. The first act was a drag. The final fight left a lot to be desired. And don't get me started on fat Thor 😑. I've been a fan of marvel forever and this was such a let down for what was promised
Triple Threat (2019)
Not Anything New, but more entertaining than most action flicks nowadays
This doesn't necessarily deserve eight stars but I just wanted to draw attention to the fact that this film is in fact very entertaining. It is by no means anything new and the star power although plentiful was sadly slightly under used. However I tend to judge films based on how sucked into the film I am. And I never caught myself wondering when the film was going to be over or bored. The fight scenes are fun to watch especially for martial arts fans and honestly just seeing so many of these martial arts stars in the same movie is a real treat. Overall could've been better, but unlike some movies I didn't feel cheated out of my rental money when the credits started to roll.
