V-Wars (2019)
Mediocre and too many plotholes
The quality of the production is good, the actors do a fine job but the writing is just too thin. The bad guys are just too stereotypically bad and stupid. The good guys are just too naive and, well, stupid. And the things that at pointless and just counter to how the world works.
- No, having a disease does not make you at "new species". That is just nonsense.
- Yes, if a disease made people act violently the authorities would definitely have to detain them. And that would not be wrong in any way.
- No, a detachment of police soldiers would not leave a bunch of catatonic liberated prisoners alone on a dark road in a dangerous place.
- No, government officials don't murder or plan on murdering superiors or staff that don't agree with them.
6-Headed Shark Attack (2018)
The most ridiculous thing you have ever seen
I knew it was going to be bad, but really. This is beyond ridiculous. The whole thing seems like something produced by a couple of ten year olds. The "monster" is ... not scary. The acting lame. Most of the actions taken by the characters are counter intuitive or downright stupid and most of them are killed in the most pointless way. The CGI is cheap. Two stars for the laugh.
Love, Death & Robots: Beyond the Aquila Rift (2019)
Scary and intriguing
First off, the CGI is stunning. It is really high quality stuff. Same goes for the acting and music. Definitely a high quality production.
This is delightfully scary and intriguing at the same time. At the end we are absolutely sure that Thom is in a lot of trouble, likely doomed, but not exactly sure what. Is he trapped in some sort of nightmare? Or if it's real, is he trapped at an alien station? By accident or purpose? Is "Greta" a predatory being or trying to ease his suffering, or both perhaps? Is "she" also trapped or setting the trap or something else? We don't really know for sure, but that is ok. I've watched it a few times to try and make sense of it, but have failed to come to a definite conclusion.
Noah (2014)
The myths of the bible are not good movie material
It's obvious that they have been trying to put a modern perspective into the story but it somewhat falls short. The myths from the bible simply don't really fit a modern narrative. It comes across as ultra environmentalist and antinatalist, almost condemning human prosperity, ascribing more value to nature than humanity. It is a nice try none the less, the visual effects are nice, the acting is good, so it is a very solid production even if the story is a not quite what you'd expect.
Chernobyl (2019)
Absolutely gripping
This is a masterpiece. Nothing less. A must watch! It reflects the creeping horror, the mistrust and incompetence in the system. It also captures the complete lack of transparency. Today with smartphones and internet the news of such an event would hit everyone within a couple of hours, but then everyone, even those right next to the accident, was kept in the dark for days and was only gradually made aware of the gravity of the situation.
I was 10 when the accident happened. And while being a Scandinavian I was fairly safe, I still remember being home alone and hearing about the accident on our black/white television. It was truly horrifying.
