Yes Rupert !!!
11 May 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I think I like the movie most for Rupert Everett. His walk (which he describes as panther like) was amazing. he sticks to his friend, giving the only sensible advice possible. Say a little prayer for you was amazing, his story of his engagement with Julia was so delicious.

Julia's mean streak was magnificent.. also her eyes when she sees her best friend being carried away.

I enjoy this movie every time, and cannot miss the Rupert parts at all !

Although if you look closely, the sudden love for Dermot Mulroney is not natural. Not for a minute would a character like Julianne be happy with someone like him. She could rough it in seedy hotels, but not be tied down to someone's schedules.

So you are kind of relieved that Julianne walks free in the end. And she does have this magnificent friend like Rupert who drops everything and comes to her rescue. If he hadn't been gay, he would have been besotted with her and that is the kind of a man Julianne really needs

I like it that Julianne remains single in the end. That is what life is like, sometimes you have to hand over your loved ones and deal with life on its own. There is no magic guy who appears the minute you are single.

Gangster (2006)

Shiny gangster
2 May 2006
Someone just wrote a good review on this..

I can add.. yes a very well made movie. The way the movie unfolds, the beautiful Seoul, a pretty drunken girl, a smitten lover, some shootings and the story told through the ventilator final breaths of the girl.

Only i do wish the dialog could have been better. It is terribly stilted in some place, too wordy in others. Thoda sa natural bhai, in keeping with the mood of the movie. So while Akash and Simran are prattling away long predictable lines, Daya hardly gets any. There is this scene where Simran confronts Daya after he bashes up her lover Akash... Talk to me Daya she starts .. none of the "peichan kaun" of Naveen Pal here. This Bar Girl has class. But then she carries on and on while shiny emotes excellently his frustration at finding simran kissing another guy goodbye after an obvious night of sex. At the end of the long harangue, he simply turns and slaps her. The audience roars its approval.

Kangana Raut manages well. She looks hot and does as much justice to the role as she can. Emran Hashmi also manages good. He gets a nice song to sing at his lady love, and also gets to kiss the girl.

The star is shiny shiny Shiny Ahuja. His acting is amazing. From first scene to the last, he is extremely convincing.

Wow man, that name on the marquee, me in queue-ee ! forever !

Being Cyrus (2005)
10/10
Cyrus minces no emotion
26 April 2006
Cyrus does not believe in sentimentality of any kind. He cannot be held down and merely uses people. Even if it is his sister.

To make his task easier, the Sethna family is not too likable either. They use each other shamelessly.

The darkness of all this is lightened by the humor. It keeps you watching the movie, edge of seat, waiting for next, not wanting to end.

The acting is first class. Saif is safe and dependable. He is just right. For the movie, he is Cyrus, revealing his character as the movie progresses. No one can fault Naseer, Boman Irani, Simone Singh. All perfect. And Dimple, she lets herself go. Usually asked upon to play a graceful aging beautiful woman in various films. Here she is called upon to play a slatternly, dissatisfied, sluttish woman who is a go-getter. Her out of control behaviour in the police station that seals her wretched fate was great.

Inspector Lovely was a lovely treat. How often we see the kind.

A delicious treat of a film. To be cherished and kept on a legal DVD and seen again and again
