Skyggen i mit øje (2021)
This should have won awards.
The cinematography is superb. The acting is brilliant. The story compelling. And very close to the events.
Why has this not won any major awards is beyond me.
The futility of war is there for all to see.
Took me back to my childhood surviving the civil war in Lebanon and the close encounters with death and when my school was shelled.
The movie felt real, it transported me/you to 1945. I for sure will check out the director and the rest of the casts work as it it was sublime.
The final running scene got me, got a bit of "Run lola run" but with the hammer of emotions.
Bravo to all for making this.
Your mate from London.
Atlanta (2016)
Annoyed with season 3
This show died towards the end of season 2. What was a solid start turned into a vanity project?
A shame when a solid show like Flatbush Misdemeanors gets cancelled and this average poop continue. The actors are great, but the writing and directing just blows now. I am so unattached to anyone. The jokes don't land and the story has no spirit. What are you trying to say?
You have the actors that can deliver use them, and let's have less writer's brain block.
It just isn't funny anymore and the drama holds no weight.
Flatbush Misdemeanors IMO is a far superior show, but there you go, the power of producers and TV companies blinding you.
Bye from London.
Farzar (2022)
Don't understand the hate.
Hello from London. I really don't understand the low rating. Brickleberry and Paradise PD are some of the best animation comedies out there. This needs to grow a little.
It's a solid 7/10 for now, but I gave it a 10 to counter some of the hate.
The Terminal List (2022)
Pretty annoying, especially the journalist
As a journalist, it's safe to say no one acts like that irritating journalist in real life. It's pretty predictable throughout. Pretty average series.
Flatbush Misdemeanors (2021)
This should blow up soon!
Hello from London. How is this not out there more? Everything about the first season is solid. It has real drama, big laugh-out moments and serious social issues that are realistic, organic and real.
The characters are well written, the comedy is gritty and dark. This is like the real Curb and Sunny. No punches held back on serious issues relating to many cultures and races.
Hope it gets more exposure and seasons soon as IMHO this has the potential to be a real hit with a cult following.
The Northman (2022)
Am I the only one who thinks Alexander Skarsgård cant act
There you have it, it's official, Alexander Skarsgård can't act. I am not being mean, it's just a fact. Why take on this project when you know your abilities are limited to prove what? I don't want to mean, but Alex can't act.
Gomorrah (2014)
Best ever crime drama, ever.
This is by far the most thrilling, heart-pumping emotional ride of a series I have ever watched.
Will probably take several years for someone to come up with anything that could even match. Watched 1- 4 then Immortal then 5 and boy was I blown away.
Credit to Marco who plays Ciro, writing and directing Immortal and season 5.
Night Sky (2022)
A drama with a bit of science fiction
This is a drama that has all the tones for fans of that genre. But if you are looking for a proper sci-fi, then this isn't it. Carried on watching as I really enjoy J. K. Simmons and Sissy Spacek performances. But if you are expecting Counterpart, then you will be hugely disappointed.
Would I want a second season? Hell yet but less of the Netflix predictable twists and action sequences.
On the Count of Three (2021)
A wonderful touching movie
Hello from London. A solid directorial debut by Jerrod Carmichael. A truly touching and wonderful film tackling so many serious issues genuinely with emotion and care while bringing up the raw reality of it all. The film is solid in every department. Hope to see more from Jerrod.
Malignant (2021)
This is a masterpiece
Don't really know how I can expand on the other reviews but I will keep it short: this is James Wan best movie in my opinion. It has everything in it and a fight scene better than any MCU movie. "It's time to cut the cancer".
Lorelei (2020)
A powerful and wonderful movie
Not often are movies too real, organic and simply wonderful in every aspect. From the cast, to the story, to the direction - I loved this. Pablo, Jena and the kids are wonderful, but credit to the writer and director. The score is also spot on.
War of the Worlds (2019)
I really want to like this, but...
(gave it a 4 but the update is a 3) Credit to the direction, cinematography and acting. But the storyline and dialogue is absolutely terrible, although the plot is okay. If you compare this to, ets just say the walking dead season 1-5 - in comparison this is mind numbing and like watching the Australian Neighbours with people making stupid decisions at every turn when humanity is at stake. It's just dumb. Who doesn't keep a watch and a security detail outside one of the last posts of humanity.
In a world ending event, you would expect people to make smarter decisions, but episode after episode it gets dumber and dumber. It makes no sense! Mind numbingly stupid in dialogue and decision making with the characters.
This could be so good, but please make it smarter, it started off so good in the first two episodes, but but by season 2 e1 I want to give up. I probably will by 2-2 EDIT- I have) if it continues to be flawed and getting the human instinct of survival so wrong.
Wrath of Man (2021)
Much ado about nothing
As a Brit I should really support a British Director and the Actor. But this movie is dreadful and aimed at middle aged macho men with no grip on reality or how things work in the real life:
- Jason is a one trick pony that can't act and has only one character in his arsenal
- Guy Ritchie hasn't done a good movie since RocknRolla
- Gun ballistics if off
- Horrible soundtrack
- The directing - is like it took a piece from every popular action movie with an almost copycat style to Nolan's Dark Knight in some parts
- Badly written characters
- Bad script
- Not twists.. I can go on
Watched the full movie in order to leave a review. I don't understand the high rating - but the masses are never wrong, eh?
The Paper Tigers (2020)
Very good independent flick
This is a very enjoyable film, and very well done too. If you are 35+ and did martial arts when you were younger you will love this. Credit to the actors in this.
Hell on Wheels (2011)
Is it bad to say..
That this is my favourite TV series (yes, beating OZ, rescue me and life on the street)? It has everything you can wish for and then more. You'll get so attached to the characters by the end of it. Great piece of work this. 10/10.
Shorta (2020)
Very enjoyable.
You won't find a happy ending here or redemption. Pretty decent intense European flick that tackles some serious issues. Very enjoyable and the Arabic was spot on. Good acting from all in this.
I do enjoy these European flicks as they are pretty gritty and entertain more than what you get from the other side of the Atlantic.
I Care a Lot (2020)
I don't care at all for this garbage
Save the 1 hour you're going to spend watching it before turning it off on something better, like gardening, baking a cake or reading from a book. This is by far the most irritating film I have seen since covid, and I have seen a lot.
Donnybrook (2018)
Bleak
There is no happy endings here. I think mr Bell is becoming an awesome actor. Well supported here. This is a bleak movie.
Bajo cero (2021)
Hilariously awful
So bad that I had to watch to the end. So many things wrong with this. But my favourite is how one man can change all the tires of an armoured truck without using a jack - must be the Spanish Superman.
Resident Alien (2021)
UPDATE- Next best thing since Happy?
Moved it up to 10 from 9. This show is going to be a smash but not sure if could be as good as Happ! If they build up the murder mystery element along with the two kids trying to bring him down and some whacky element then this goes beyond North America and will get world wide attention. Knowing Syfy it will be canceled halfway through season 1. The poor reviews are probably from reviewers who don't like the idea of object to diversity, when it is in your face in reality.
Mystery Road (2018)
Season 2 ruined it
Season one did the film justice - it was excellent. However, season two was just ridiculous. Easily predictable with serious character and story flaws. The lead character is becoming one dimensional and annoying and the bad guy's decision making is comical.
Feels like the writers got writers bloc on the second season. Could have been so much better if used some intelligence.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
This isn't Star Trek
I'm sorry but this blows. A spaceship that cant handle ice? A Millenial in the future saying silly stuff. Just give me Star Trek. Everything lacks in this show.
Tacoma FD (2019)
Keeps getting better and better.
Not going to write a critique. However, someone earlier said "dad humour" and rated it 1. Well some of us are and loved Broken Lizard (Supertroopers 2 was a disappointment after the hype).
This keeps improving by the episode and with it's a nice distraction with what is happening in the world. If you are a fan of Broken Lizard, then you will love this.
Just wanted to add that if you were a fan of the hit show Rescue Me, then you will also like this.
Doom Patrol (2019)
Simply wow
Hope this goes on for another few season. Just fear people wont get it. Writing this after episode 6 season 2.
Balle perdue (2020)
Did someone say Taxi 1,2,3 and 4?
This rocks. You don't need hollywood nor bollywood to make a fun action flick. It's European to the core. Everything works in this little French action movie that punches above its weight.
