French Exit (2020)
Worth a watch (Character review, spoilers and a hunch)
25 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This particular film is not for blockbuster loving people. It has some subtlety and some nuance that's not easily caught. The slow pace of this movie reflects the internal struggle of the main character.

So basically we have a rich american socialite who lost everything. She's forced to relocate to Paris, having lost her home. In Paris she lives in the apartment of one of her friends.

Right from the beginning we can see that she leaves with a giant sum of cash (around 150-200k euros). She spends (overspends) on regular things, like a cab (1k tip), a coffee (100 euros) and gives away about 30k to some random stranger.

In trying to interpret these gestures, I can only conclude that she's only doing this because of how the grand gesture itself makes her feel. It makes her feel like how she felt 'before', when she had the luxury of being envied by everyone.

So she decides that at the end of the money she is going to kill herself. Bold decision. Ridicoulous decision by everyone's standards. Yet, appropriate and in tone with her character. I can only see a woman who's lived her best, most extravagant life and who wouldn't negociate even for a second with any other kind of lesser life.

The only victim in this whole scenario is her son and in here we can see her deep flaws. Her relationship with her son was based on her sole need to not feel alone. She took him out of school right after his father passed away. All the while his relationship with her was one of him needing a mother, having felt abandoned while in that school all alone, which is why he still follows her around like a puppy even at this age.

There is a line in the movie where she says to her son: "seeing you (Malcolm) clarified some things for your father". (hunch) I think it clarified that he wasnt his son. This could only mean that she didnt love her husband which is why her husband never loved Malcolm and distanced himself from them both but didnt leave them (which is the reason Malcolm shouldnt hate his father).

In conclusion, this movie is worth a watch simply because as flawed as she was (and boy was she!), she lived life in her own terms while completely disregarding her impact over anyone else which I can only characterize as bold but incredibly damaging.

Dramedy gone slightly wrong
4 November 2021
I'm conflicted about this. On one hand Kristen delivered a great performance (love HER) and revealed a deeply wounded character and on the other hand the whole film was filled with comedic relief from the other characters. The comedy was obvious but not as funny as it couldve been. The combo between drama-comedy doesnt seem to pair well in this scenario.

Ally McBeal (1997–2002)
Just rewatched the entire series
9 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It's been a decade since I've watched this show and it feels amazing to discover that I've felt different about it then as opposed to now. It's like I've seen it again for the first time and It's a great show. The first 4 seasons anyway. The effects that take place in Ally's mind are incredible, it's fantastic writing, and so unique and original, especially for the 90s who were still dabbling in cliches.

Ally's biggest mistake was Season 5.

Maybe in Season 4, David E. Kelley shouldnt have taken the risk of hiring a guy who was fresh out of prison, even though RDJ did a fantastic job with his role as Larry. Hats off to RDJ for pulling a difficult role while he was at the lowest point in his personal life.

However, when it all went down in flames with RDJ's latest relapse the show was doomed.

The solution here shouldve been to take a step back and analyze the situation. Bring RDJ back for a final episode or something to wrap up his storyline. Move him to Detroit because his kid was sick, do something. Dont throw a note at me saying I love you, goodbye.

Dont try to distract me by bringing Jenny and Glenn and Raymond and Claire Otoms and any other people that I dont care about.

Stick to the main things that made this show what it was at its core. Dont change Ally, dont reinvent the show.

Dont bring me the most boring man on earth to do plumbing in Ally's house while also serving as a babysitter (sorry Jon Bon Jovi) and dont throw the most ridiculous storyline in the world at me by showing Hayden Panettiere at the door revealing she's Ally's daughter.

Too much happening in such a short time. The speed at which the events in S05 happen could have had enough material for 2 or 3 seasons.

Shouldve closed the relevant storylines. Where did Mark go? Where did the black guy that was with Ling go? Where is Rennee? Or Georgia? Everything is left hanging while we pay attention to the plumber.

If Gregg German wanted to jump ship you shouldve let him, if Peter MacNicol wanted to jump ship, the show shouldve ended at S04 with The Wedding and then that's that.

But the worst idea? Having RDJ dangle in front of our eyes in S05 without closing his storyline, just as Ally's imagination. Worst worst worst idea ever.

He either shouldve returned or shouldve stayed "in Detroit".

Thats my 2 cents.

Guarding Tess (1994)
Exceptional Shirley MacLaine, disappointing storyline
26 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this expecting a fast paced comedy, knowing full well the genius of Shirley MacLaine when it comes to comedy.

Pros: Shirley MacLaine.

Cons: Well, Nicholas Cage is not doing his best in here. I spotted a few bits where he falls short and its embarassing. But still, not the biggest issue. Related to the storyline: I dont get it. The storyline with her son made no sense. Might as well leave it out, it changes nothing to the story. The storyline of the kidnapping made no sense. What was the motive of taking her and burying her underground? Yes, yes, the ransom. But who injected the driver and leave him asleep for 7 hours at the wheel? Himself? It falls short.

Secondly, I didnt find it funny. There was so much opportunity here having MacLaine and it just wasted away on random lines... maybe this wa funny in '94...

Schitt's Creek (2015–2020)
Shooting for an objective review
21 October 2020
At first glance, I didn't quite warm up to the comedic style of this show. Being a fan of Friends, I like sarcastic humor, that's the one for me.

But everything changed because I absolutely adore the easy going, warm, lovely atmosphere that this town has!! Everyone constantly collaborating on some project, people being friendly and helpful all the time - Dan Levy has created this atmosphere, this low burning and warm energy that is impossible to replicate anywhere else.

I love the LGBT thing for NOT being a THING. I love that. It doesnt need to be explained or justified or argumented, it just is and that's fine.

So while I appreciate it a lot (!!!) for what it is, I gave it a 7 for being a good show, solid watch, and I enjoyed it thoroughly but I can't help feeling there's something missing. I can't quite put my finger on it. Is it the storylines? Is it the character development? I don't know. It may be the fact that with the set being small and always repetitive - the hotel, Twyla s Cafe, the store, the Town Hall etc. it just feels at times like a set, not a real town. Also no people walking down the streets feels odd...

But overall, great watch, relaxing, friendly and warm.

Boring and a big NO
18 October 2020
Man, have I got bored watching this!! I mean, random conversations between soldiers, a lot of briefings, in the beginning you don't know who's who, a lot of confusion, this sums it up perfectly.

This should not have been done as a miniseries, maybe a documentary but not 8 hours long, there isn't enough story here for 8 hours long.

I am very much into movies and miniseries, (Band of Brothers is my fav of all time).

In Generation Kill, I get the need for realism and what this miniseries depicts - its the command plan versus the reality in the streets witnessed by soldiers - neither see both sides and yet the chain of command must be followed blindly but the result is nothing more than chaos. As realistic as it is, its not worth 8 hours of screen time when it can be done in 1-2 hrs.

To conclude, this is a big no for me and if you like action movies I deeply recommend to avoid this one.

Chicago P.D. (2014– )
What a lame show!!
16 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I mean...wow - where can I start?

Okay. So - it's a procedural where the creators don't bother to create a background story for any of the main characters.

We maybe know this: Voight is quite violent. Tries to do right most of the time. Isnt against bending the rules. He had a son. He died. I know nothing else about Voight. Kim was once engaged to Adam. They broke up. She then got pregnant with adam. Lost the pregnancy. Upton. Casual with Ruzek. Then like nothing ever happened. Erin - all in all with Halstead and then leaves. Halstead - ex army. Atwater - once used to be patrol with Kim. Antonio - now this guy, he had a background somewhat more solid than the others. He had a sister in CPD, a wife whom he divorced and 2 kids, one of which lived with him at some point. Then he develops some drug addictions, kills a guy and then disappears. That's all there is to Chicago PD.

Everything else is added on the spot.

Like - does the team need info in this particular episode? Have Halstead say a line like: "An old buddy of mine from the army found out that... " Have Atwater say a line like: "I have a C.I. that told me that... "

So not much is actually happening on the screen, most of it is TALKING and DESCRIBING what happened off screen.

And they present the information on that board like its presentation day in class. It's RIDICULOUS.

Mr. Dick Wolf, I'm sure you have a lot on your plate with CPD, CFD and Chicago Med but take note from Third Watch on what it means to have a good cop show! Or from The Shield maybe. Or Rescue Me even. Those characters were PEOPLE we got to know from situations they were in. They weren't perfect and yet those shows were amazing!

What you created are robots who just spit out lines and then go back to their 1 dimensional life. This is for people who have no idea what good TV is. Don't bother.

Has potential but doesn't hold up to it
3 September 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This movie promises to be the usual or maybe even BETTER than all the rest romantic comedies of the year but doesn't accomplish that. SPOILER You can tell you are going to enjoy this movie - it starts slowly, presenting Verona, the relationship between Sophie and Victor, our initial engaged couple. They should soon be married and this vacation to Verona serves as a honeymoon - more or less. The minute Charlie enters the place Sophie is - the whole movie dynamic is changed - first off: he walks like a chump! The guy has no idea how to act and I've seen Amanda Seyfried almost laughing a couple of times! Chemistry zero. Pointless movie. So, unless you're 15, I wouldn't recommend watching this.

Third Watch (1999–2005)
Awesome show!!
14 August 2010
Absolutely a must see, this show combines action with feeling and it's not a lot of shows that get this combo right.

Molly Price and Jason Wiles have great chemistry together as Faith and Bosco and the storyline is believable, dramatic and it gets to you.

The storyline develops among other characters as well, fire squad, police and ems but doesn't change the chemistry along the way. Also, as the seasons advance, you get to see how they cope with a great deal of situations at work and on a personal level.

Keeps you on the edge at all times.

It's a great show! Definitely worth a shot!!! Or two...

Excellent job!
14 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I am usually not a fan of Romanian films but this one topped my expectations! The story develops around an 18-20 year old girl named Cristina (Adela Popescu). She's a drug addict. The story gets going when she meets her mother who just returned from Spain. It's a powerful drama about family relationships and past while dealing with the present.

I heard somewhere that "all Romanian films have horrible outdoor sound and no soundtrack". That may be true, but this one has a soundtrack and it's a beautiful one - no outdoor sounds. It's an enjoyable movie, I advise you to go see it.

My Sassy Girl (2008)
Must see!!!
3 October 2008
I can't say I understand the "original versus remake" fight. Yes, it's a remake, so what? The original one may be better, but this doesn't make this one unwatchable! So, for all remake haters: how much people do you think would've heard of this movie in it's original version as long as we know it's a 2001 film and the publicity it had was really weak? The remake it's really good fun, it's a romantic comedy, love story, fairy tale, whatever you wanna name it, it's gooood !!!!

I liked this movie because of the story, it's uncommon, it's unpredictable! Honestly, I'm tired of the classic comedy where boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy get's girl back or vice-versa. This one actually made me feel the story and believe the characters.

Totally watchable. Totally underrated. Totally...excellent!

Enjoy!
