Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
A visual feast.
Spoilers enclosed.
Never easy to try and top a film that grossed 2.9 billion, so much so that they didnt. In fact they never got close.
Visually its stunning and an improvement on its 2009 predecessor as one would expect.
The film plays homage to many of the players in this incarnation of the franchise, whether in person or as an avatar.
There are a few holes in the plot line which is hard to fathom out why given the enormous budget provided but there it is.
The film starts on Pandora and soon after the humans arrive at which point a graphic pops up saying "one year later" There is a huge settlement the size of a city which we are shown from a distance but no more.
Thereafter we enter into the meat of the film which focuses entirely on the vendetta that lives inside the avatar of Colonel Quaritch and his relentless pursuit of Sully who killed his real life character, except he didn't it was Neytiri.
It wasn't plausible for me when the base on pandora was a city of such magnitude that it would let the pursuit of Sully continue given the cost to lives and equipment of the Colonel and his cohorts.
The story moves to the water tribes as sully and his family leave the forest in an effort to avoid to avoid bringing the conflict to the forest. This element of the film focuses on relationships and the way of the water tribes. Allied to the visuals this is the films richest vein in quality.
We have the usual epic finale and we are left without any doubt of a further manifestation of the franchise which is a shame as they invariably dilute from the foundation stone from whence they came.
Fans of Avatar will enjoy it and it is worth your 3hours plus of your time.
Love/Hate (2010)
Nasty Nidge
This is getting old now but living outside of Ireland I cannot understand this hasn't been syndicted or bought by a streaming giant. Personally it's the beat thing I have watched in many years. 5 series long it moves at a pace and is at times very violent. Many non Irish people may not understand many of the slang words like Mot knacker sleveen and others.
Easentially it wont matter much.
A must watch.
Broken Law (2020)
Dont trust the score
Nearly flipped this film as the score was 5.2. So glad I didnt. Paul Slattery is an exciting new director and does an excellent job here. Irish film with all Irish actors so some Americans may struggle with some of the nuances. Crime caper with twists enjoyable I would have to recommend it. 8/10. Slainte
Black Mirror (2011)
Series 5
You know when you get a great steak? So you go back to the restaurant and order it again. Well it ain't easy getting it right every-time..
Black mirror started out as a low budget channel 4 UK gig and picked up a fanbase so the USA took it forward. To their credit the bigger budgets delivered greater productions. The whole things a great watch. Series 5. Well its stumbling a little. First one out wasnt great the next was good and the third with miley cyrus got mixed reviews. I liked that one the most. Overall if your a scifi fantasy type of lover your at the right gig. 9/10
