Sunday Brunch (2012)
Too long for too long
Was mildly amusing with relatively grounded and engaging presenters - even after jumpung from BBC to C4. Nowadays it feels like there is too much padding. Reminds me of meeting an old school friend in your forties and finding he is still banging on about he same things he did when he was 15. Some amusing historic anecdotes and nostalgic catchphrases - but wears thin when you realise that's all there is.
Some interesting guests on occassion - but are usually cut short. The producers don't seem to get what makes good TV. Seems they would prefer to fosus on attempting to devlop catch phrases and cringey sub Fast Show style quizes and skits - crumgeon, shout out, who's line of work is it anyway, pet TV etc etc etc etc etc over and over. Makes the show a difficult watch. I check who is on before I commit any time to it - the regular slots are a not worth hanging about for.
Werewolf by Night (2022)
A trip down memory lane
I had forgotten that I read this Marvel comic book as a child. This and 'Dracula Lives' were my favourite comics at the time - until 2000AD came along.
Some are saying the werewolf is not "wolfy" enough, but it is the way I remeber it - a man sized, athletic werewolf.usually wearing jeans.
A great story, goergeous set design, quality show in all spects - and Man Thing dropped in for light relief. Wasnt expecting much and thoroughly enjoyed it.
OK Marvel, this is one of your good ones. Now, perhaps we can have a role for Keanu Reeves in Dracula Lives - make up for that chronic accent in Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Zvyozdniy razum (2022)
When style triumphs over content, we all lose.
Others have got it right. This movie looks great:sets, CGI, production design, cinematograph etc all high quality. However, counts for nothing when the script is so bad, the acting is so bad, the direction s so bad, the editing is so bad. There is no tension, no engagement, no empathy, no excitement - just no emotion. Not a language barrier, just flat as a pancake. Give some Koreans the same money and they'd come up with an 8-10 hour riveting TV series like The Silent Sea.
Shame, such a waste.
