NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service: Higher Education (2022)
Had potential
The implausible plot cleverly woven around interesting characters is trade mark NCIS, but there is something lacking these days ( and I don't just mean Gibbs). The characters are interesting and plot is complex and geeky enough to suspend disbelief ( this one anyway) but there's an energy and urgency lacking in the delivery. Everyone is too nice, and without the internal team tension of teasing and crossing the line of workplace bullying, the jibes and jokes don't have the sting that injected the older seasons with pace and energy. I smiled a few times at some witty lines, and enjoyed the link back to Thom E Gemcity and the pop culture references (War Games) but generally was left a little deflated.
Troppo (2022)
Stick to the book
I love Candice Fox's books, but I found it hard to recognize them here. Such a shame. Even though Jane is pretty good, it's frustrating to have to bring an American in to do what is a great Aussie character. I'm afraid Chamoun doesn't have the crazy energy and contradictory positivity of Amanda that was so intriguing in the books. Please stop trying to improve on an author's works, they are best sellers for a reason, don't change them. Scenery is great!
