The Old Man: VII (2022)
I agree with other reviewer - That's it??!!
What?! That's the ending? I agree that it started off so strong, but then took a turn for sure. I understand that many find it clever and multi-dimensional to have lots of loose ends and unanswered questions. Mysterious. However, sometimes "mysterious" just falls right on in the abyss of those "clever" plot holes. I don't regret watching it all, just hate so much talent was wasted in the last few episodes and the ending.
Making It (2018)
Great show! Show more making, please!
Love it, but how about less personal background stories and more footage of the actual making of the projects? That would be even MORE interesting! Personal backgrounds on Ep. 1 make sense, but aren't necessary on every episode of the season. We want more details of them literally "making it." For example: What are they using? Are those materials available in national craft stores? If not, where? What techniques are being used? What tools are used with those materials? What materials and tools would each maker consider priorities in a home crafter's studio? Makers watch this to learn.
I cringe when the female judge gives her evaluations. The projects are all about personal experiences, personal heirlooms with sentimental meaning, etc. Yet her judging seems to be (although all over the place) focused on marketability of the project. The assignments and her expectations don't seem in sync. People who create for top companies would probably fail in her opinions. I hope the show finds another judge to replace her.
Farmhouse Fixer (2021)
Enjoy the attention to detail.
The host is fun to watch as he gets excited about all aspects of the renovation. I love the desire to honor the history of the homes while making them livable for a modern family.
I've read multiple complaints about the designer. Actually I think her work is overall good. Although there have been some unfortunate choices (beautiful exterior trim with no visible contrast to the wall color, large neon light of words in bedroom, stark modern black/white painting in otherwise cozy dining room), most of her designs have been attractive and clearly what the homeowners want/in their style.
Happy homeowners should be more important than striving to cater to the varying tastes of viewers. I think the homeowners being pleased consistently will be a strong factor in the shows success, in addition to the likeable host and quality work.
P. S. You hear that some of these shows are fake, with hosts not actually doing the work portrayed. Haha, after watching 3 episodes, I find myself really hoping he is legitimately that involved.
