A vehicle full of great acting
22 September 2007
The issues dealt with in this movie are real, and I can see many people who will be able to draw from their own experiences when watching this film. You may wonder sometimes if an accident happens, how long can you hold a person accountable for? Jennifer Connelly is again a mesmerizing presence on the silver screen. I watched tonight's screening of Reservation Road in Sudbury at our Cinefest festival expecting it to tug an emotional chord. I have to say, it was touching to see all the parents in the audience shedding a tear when the credits rolled. Joaquin Phoenix and Mark Ruffalo made a somewhat formulaic script feel fresh and real.

Never got into Austen, but the film still read well.

This harmoniously concocted movie features as many 'novel' film making devices as it does Jane Austen novels. Although I have yet to read one Jane Austen novel -feeling like the odd one out during last night's Gala presentation at Cinefest- I very much enjoyed this movie. I think it will serve as a great conversation piece for not only movie goers, but also film and literature classes. However, it is nowhere near the likes of "Shakesphere In Love"... The acting in this film was overall good, but not great. Feist offers a nice track near the end of the movie, which was a nice surprise. Robin Swicord does a wonderful job directing her own screenplay.

A whimsical journey into a absurdly funny little place called, Happy Kingdom
4 June 2006
This show is absurdly funny, and the comic timing is reminiscent of the good ol'Tex Avery/ Chuck Jones era. Although slated as a kids show, like all great animations, there are various levels of comedy sure to delight all ages. Borrowed from your neighbourhood Sushi menu, most of the characters are named after various food and drink products from Japan. There are Yamroll's buddies, Edamame, Ebi, and Tamago who are the cause of most of Yamroll's misadventures, there's also Sake, Spicey Tuna Roll, and Tako. There are countless numbers of memorable characters that are worthy of their own shows... like Tiny Pillow Guy! But the main storyline revolves around our hero Yammie, winning the affection of the beautiful Minamiko. Okay fine, Minamiko is more of a pain in the butt than anything... but love is love, so who am I to judge?

If you liked Ren and Stimpy, Sponge Bob or any of the old Warner Bros. stuff, you'll like Yamroll. Some people tell me they don't get it... I tell them they aren't funny people.
