The Equalizer (2021)
Great series, can't wait for season 4
I'm aware most of the people in the review section don't like it because of its predecessor and the denzel Washington films. Some for how unrealistic it is but let's face it. 90% or you watch shows like vampire diaries so you're able to watch make believe and still be entertained
I love the dynamic between the cop and queen latifas character and the parenting style, Some things annoyed me like timings, plausibility but then I took it for what it is. Entertainment. The main cast can't die or the show doesn't work so obviously it's going to be a lot of near misses and impossible escapes
The cliche. Will they, won't they like most series is a little on the nose but great nonetheless.
No One Lives (2012)
What a cracker
I put this on out of curiousity. I like Luke evans so I thought I would give it a go. I wasn't disappointed. It doesn't wait 40 mins to get to the action and it was just the right amount of story to gore to not become overly repetitive. A few twists and turns as with any film of its category but all around good little thriller
For a lot of unknown actors it was a solid movie
Not entirely sure how else to describe the movie without giving too much away but it's definitely clever way of saying. Greed doesn't pay and you never know how dangerous someone is at face value so don't start something unless you're willing to deal with the consequences.
Manifest (2018)
Great start and ending just dragged out
This show started off strong, the premise of a plane going missing for 5 1/2 years to everyone else but to the passengers they just hit turbulence. Watching the people adjust was really clever but it got a little slow in the middle. When Netflix took over they did what they always do and as with everything, Overdramatised every situation, dragged out subplots to get more episodes and I almost gave up on it, only reason I didn't is because I knew the last episode was the finale and I couldn't not see how it concluded.
That being said the last 2 episodes of the last season pulled it out of the hat and was a really good conclusion.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
What an amazing final installment
While there's been 15 years between the 3rd and 4th film it has a really good story point. The CGI was a little spotty at the beginning but overall the direction it took made for great entertainment, a few gripes I had were a woman running through a crowd kept up with a 3 guys on a horse, motorbike and car and somehow was in the subway station Indiana managed to get to and the bridge in the tomb snapped with the big German guy and the next scene it's in they're walking Indiana over it fully intact
I felt really bad for the 60+ old customers in the screen having to go toilet missing parts of the film because it was so long.
Gangs of Lagos (2023)
Struggled to keep up with subtitles and action sequences
What can I say. I seen this advertised as a must watch film. Advertised as English language so much to my surprise when it was barely 10% English but I thought ahhhh still looks good so I'll stick it out
For the best part it's a very strong storyline, the characters are believable. Some of the fight scenes are so bad they're good like they flip over and fall without any impact whatsoever which makes me think of old school Japanese movies.
A few plot holes and some characters not really developed enough to really understand the anger but overall a very enjoyable film.
Only gripe I have is some of the dialogue was a bit fast on the subtitles so I found myself pausing to read or rewinding to catch the full statement because it was being done at the same time as an action sequence that I also wanted to watch.
Prey for the Devil (2022)
Better than expected when seeing reviews
Wasn't expecting a masterpiece due to all the negative reviews on this film but for me it had a good pace, very predictable jump scares but most films of this genre are really predictable
Loved the cast, very easy to follow and although the acting could have been better it didn't impact the overall story telling. Would have liked it if they had given more depth to the additional characters as it would have helped with the chemistry between them on screen. A few smiles in beginning scenes don't really give much away
Some scenes could have been longer and some dialogue removed because it was a big giveaway but overall a very enjoyable exorcism film.
Ambulance (2022)
Good action, bad story
Great little trip for an all action movie. But that's where it draws the line. I like a film that actually makes sense and plausible and for a long film the story felt rushed without giving any real detail because of all the action sequences and pointless conversations.
Escape from Pretoria (2020)
Truly gripping tense film
Popped up on suggested for you and originally was going to avoid it because I couldn't see Daniel Radcliffe as anything more than Harry Potter.
That being said once you get passed the really bad African accents the film itself exceeds all expectations heart racing and really intense scenes beautifully acted from about 10 mins in right up until the end. First film in years to keep my focus throughout.
Songbird (2020)
Really clever little film
I know it's obviously not rating too high but I found it very gripping. Plot was a little underwhelming but you have to think logically it wouldn't have been safe to have too many people on set at the same time and I think it was more of a romance drama than a thriller because we're living through COVID right now.
The Old Guard (2020)
Clever, hoping there's going to be a second film
Clever little film entertaining from start to finish. Only gripe is the choice for bad guy. He seemed too plain and too geeky to pull off the villain. Lead body guard would have been the better choice
Da 5 Bloods (2020)
Great actors, great film locations. Script sucks
The film started off quite promising some funny moments but everything beyond that point kinda felt like it was just chucked in there to stretch out a film. Major plot holes and dialogue that lacked any kind of reason. Then some random 4th wall talkin to the camera just because they could. Not to mention they didn't cast people to play younger versions for flash backs. They looked maybe 5 years younger with make up which kinda ruined the whole flash back scenes.
