It's all about the ending
28 February 2021
My wife and I were calling this the 'All men are terrible' movie until we got to the ending... it's still pretty much that, but the ending was classic and made this movie a classic as well.

Complicated, but boring
16 May 2020
It's like Clark Duke says himself in the movie, the story is complicated, but boring. There's some good parts that make it worth it, but a lot of it just drolls on. The parts with Vince Vaughn, and with a music background, are kind of cool.

See this movie! No, really, see it already!

Haley Joel Osment finally turns in an exceptional performance, much different from his role in "The Sixth Sense" which made me want to fly out to Hollywood and slap him silly. I haven't seen "AI" yet, but I hear he was pretty good in that too. As long as he doesn't have to see any more dead people.... :)

Besides the great acting jobs from Spacey, Hunt and Osment, this movie just gets inside your head and makes you wonder what would happen if people in fact did start doing favors for strangers, to repay favors done for them by other strangers. It's a remarkable concept, and I would love to know where Catherine Ryan Hyde (writer of the book it's based on) came up with it. "Pay It Forward" really makes you believe that something magical is possible, and that the world isn't so bad after all. Run, don't walk to the video store and rent it today... you won't be disappointed!

Are they serious?

Carson Daly should only be on tv for the kids who come home from school and want to see their favorite music videos on MTV. NOT for the late night audience who doesn't care about MTV and cares even less about the vj's who are replaced every few years once they reach the hip age limit. Should I assume that "Last Call" is the beginning of a transition for Carson Daly to legitimate television and movies? I certainly hope not, and here's some more news for you Carson... Pauly Shore has already run your gig into the ground and is now accepting plum roles like "man in trunk" in such prestigious films as "The Wash" with Snoop and Dr. Dre. No offense to Snoop and Dr. Dre, but the movie really stunk. I blame the writers. As for Carson Daly, let's just hope "Last Call" is really his last call to any show other than TRL.

What a terrible movie....
21 December 2001
I can't believe I wasted an hour and a half watching this over-hyped flop (typical Travolta picture). First of all, for a movie that was supposed to be some sort of action thriller, the stunts were horrible (except for one scene in the first ten minutes) and the rest of the action was unoriginal and lacking the luster of a quality film like The Matrix (which Swordfish is obviously trying to imitate). Besides the action being weak, the overall plot of the movie just didn't work. I'm still not sure who Halle Berry's character was supposed to be, but I am sure that I don't care. Part of the ending is motivated by Jackman's character having feelings for Berry's, but where and how did these feelings develop? The scene where she's reading a book topless? I think not. This is one of those movies that has decent star power and would look good if you popped your head into the theater for a minute or two, but if watched beginning to end it just disappoints. Wait until Swordfish comes on cable tv in a few years and watch it while doing sit-ups or baking a cake.... anything to take some of your attention away from the movie! **** out of 10
