The Spanish Princess (2019)
Don't look for history...
Don't look for history or even an attempt. This show is a telenovela (and not a good one) where boys are dominated by corrupt female characters which is a travesty for women in history. Making them look like "She Wolves" when they were profound to history in many ways, only tarnishes their memories, but makes England like it could never build a tent, not to mention an empire.
Costumes were generally cheap, acting ok, but the writing was predictable. Easily predictable. I did enjoy the multiracial cast and the outside influence of the cultural differences between England and Spain. But they could have made this a whole lot better than relying on a "Love in the Wash Cycle" writer like Philippa Gregory.
What a mess.
Der Fall Jens Söring - Tödliche Leidenschaft (2023)
Complete Crap!!!
Like most German produced shows on TV in Germany today, this is just another over-winded, drawn out, complete bore. Nothing new, no relevant questions even asked.
Ex. While on the run (guilty act), why did they dance all around Europe and Asia and NEVER go to Germany??? Certainly with his diplomatic connections, if Jens was innocent, he would easily find supporters there! Germany has a respectable history in their support of the truly innocent.
Why is it just "Investigative Journalists" involved in the analysis and no legal experts??? Grisham creates legal fantasy and veers far from reality; however, I do respect him and agree that for both perpetrators, enough time had been served. Yet Jens says he only confessed in hopes of serving a "5 year term" in Germany.
Since Jens clearly had much involvement in this crappy program (while Elizabeth remains silent), why is he on the aforementioned crappy German television programs complaining about all the inaccuracies in this production???
It's great that the producers don't try to portray any substance of differing opinions, just a bleeding heart approach to further advance Jens' own NARCISSISM, which professional forensic psychologists (not represented in this show) will agree that that's a sure sign of a multi-murderer.
The Price We Pay (2022)
Man in Diaper Gets Butt Kicked by Woman with Light Sabre
I just don't know what to say about this movie other than, who the hell decided to fund it??? It doesn't follow conventional themes, at least not in the beginning; it doesn't maintain any new aspects that may add to to genre or even the film for very long at all; Emile Hirsch didn't give a convincing performance, but Stephen Dorff actually did.
The standouts were the characters parts played by Gigi Zumbado and Tyler Sanders. The sets were also well chosen and believable with the exception of the scene where they exit the pawn shop and a character is limping after being shot and is holing a shot gun in his hand and there are many cars waiting at the stoplight within feet of this and, though stupid, they would have probably picked a different pawn shop or at least a less popular time of day!!!
State of Alabama vs. Brittany Smith (2022)
A lot of problems with this...
The story centers around the controversial Stand Your Ground laws and the unequal effectiveness when claimed by women during abuse. It specifically focuses on a single case of a mother in rural Alabama, who by all accounts, was trying to better her life in anticipation of an imminent reunion with her children.
The problem with the film is stated in a simple phrase by the victim's own defense attorney - to wit, her use of force didn't happen during the abuse. So, the point of the film isn't well illustrated by this particular case.
Let me say that Brittany Smith suffered a horrendous attack in her own home and used the best skills anyone could by deflecting her attacker with the excuse of needing cigarettes only to have her attacker continue his rampage on her brother, which in itself should justify her actions, considering the statistics used at the end of the film, maybe one of those cases would have made for a better poster child for inequality of the Stand Your Ground Law vs. Brittany Smith's case of another sad failure or the justice system.
The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco (2018)
From 9mm guns in 1958 (LOL) to "open and shut" hit and runs...
Often ridiculous writing, poor research, plain sloppy story lines and congruency, not to mention unrealistic sets that make the creators look lazy of their depictions of actual topography and San Francisco scenery in 1958 move this presentation of smart, strong women into the toilet of poor filmmaking.
Could have been great, but as a result of the above, it's not even a near miss. Better luck next time or better yet, not at all. Why set the story in San Francisco at all? Filming in SF is expensive indeed, but a few scenes would have gone a long way towards believability, otherwise call it "Bletchley Circle: Vancouver."
Fine acting performances.
Beckett (2021)
If only...
If he not there was one scene of complete believability, it would have helped. The premise made no sense, the major characters weren't believable in their roles, Alicia Colander's character was lucky to die off early.
Combatting gun fire with fists was red icy Lou's when a weapon was available. It was just absurd, yet I couldn't even laugh at it as any emotion would be improper for a film that clearly could never survive theatrical release.
Don't bother.
Tata muta muntii (2021)
WTF??? What is the point?
This movie holds little value as a movie, a story or even a point. A corrupt father who clearly is distant from his son, but will risk everything, his own or not, to recover him, dead or alive.
The movie misses so many opportunities, including many that could have provided redemption for the "protagonist." He fails at every breath. His one act of kindness towards others is short lived and probably not needed.
In the end, the viewer is left with the same situation as in the beginning.
Sad piece of filmmaking.
Near Enemies (2020)
Racist Film without a Point...
Prime should be ashamed of itself. I understand they were trying to relate it to the times that it was supposedly portraying, but horrible plot, bad acting, abominable writing and poor scenic design and cinematography make this film the one to avoid, unless you're a white supremist.
Cinderella (2021)
Don't Listen to the Haters!
Everyone who uses the outdated word "woke" is woke themselves, clearly aimless malcontent people who probably live in the Midwest or are "MasDix" (people who live south of the Mason-Dixon Line, who probably don't know what that is).
The version is well done with its modern adaptation, great performances and humor (not to mention sarcasm throughout)!
Well worth seeing. Let the haters go back to the gaming and super heroes!!!
Serenity (2019)
Film Noir Meets "Lost"
I liked this a lot. I almost turned it off as I couldn't predict where it was headed. And that's exactly the point! A young boy stuck in Purgatory and looking for Paradise, but it's already lost. The rules have to change and the film resolves beautifully into near reality. The boy has a long road ahead but he's on the right track. Great performances by a stellar cast...And I hate fishing!
The Cheshire Murders (2013)
JUST AN INFOMERCIAL for a Pro-Death Penalty Agenda WHICH FAILED TO HONOR THE VICTIMS.
A horrific crime barely summarized by an unbalanced objective.
This is a clearly far-right attempt to preserve the death penalty in Connecticut at the time it was made. There were obvious references to Fox "News" and their affiliates and it presented only a pro-death penalty viewpoint and was absent of facts and contrary viewpoints.
It didn't focus on the crime, it focused on how the police didn't have a crystal ball to know exactly what the situation was inside the house and the effort to maintain the death penalty in Connecticut. It gnored important details and ommited very relevant facts contained within objective information that they had available and ignored.
EVERY INTERVIEW FOCUSED ON PRESEVING THE DEATH PENALTY. Typical of Fox "News" and their equally very ignorant affiliates.
I'm not standing up for the perpetrators and under the law in effect at the time, they deserved a sentence of death. I still believe that.
In the end, the state paid a lot of money to seek a sentence that was practically guaranteed to be abolished.
I pray Dr. Petit and the Chesire community can now heal as they will no longer have to endure the endless appeals and proceedings that comes with a death sentence.
May those convicted never be allowed to have press interviews or in anyway bring publicity to their actions or condition. EVER. Now that's JUSTICE!
