Mean Girls (2024)
So bad I could only stomach skimming it
The only reason I gave this a try was because of Tina Fey and other original characters in the movie. I figured Tina Fey couldn't possibly make something this bad. Well, she did. It's like she took a good movie and was challenged to make it the worst movie on the planet. The mean girls characters aren't likable and they look older. The new Regina George has nothing on Rachel McAdams. It's like she was out of place. And the singing. They completely lost me at the singing. If you want to make a bad movie worse, add bad singing. It was just so unnecessary to remake this. But if you're going to, spend more time planning, writing, analyzing and choosing better actors. I can't imagine this movie sucking more.
Bottom line is, don't waste your time. You can pluck your eyelashes out instead and have a better time.
The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell (2010)
Lawrence O'Donnell - the greatest show on MSNBC
Since Rachel Maddow has betrayed us by only doing Monday evenings (ha, ha), Lawrence O'Donnell has become my favorite show. He is straight forward, shows no mercy when it comes to Traitor and Criminal Trump, and speaks the hard-core truth. His guests are informative and amazing. He's very well-versed in anything political/congressional/Washington DC. I just discovered that he made an appearance on Homeland, which was a special treat. He interviewed Brody on his war hero thing. I've seen Homeland, but never knew he was in the first season. What a trip. Highly recommend his show. 10 PM weekdays on MSNBC.
Ozark (2017)
Just the Best Series on Television
Ozark is dark, fascinating, adventurous, calculating, wild, unpredictable, horrifying, analytical, exacerbating, strange, humorous, exciting, politically savvy, frightening and just so well done. You are on a roller coaster ride from start to finish. By the way, (powers that be), you don't want it to finish. With all the recent letdowns in reboots, new shows, biographies, reality TV, etc., it's really nice to actually watch a very well done story. Some may say it's a bit unrealistic but hey, when you're dealing with the FBI, the Mexican drug cartel and money laundering, life can be very unrealistic as well as unpredictable. What a rush. Highly recommend this show.
The Rental (2020)
What Was the Point?
At first, the storyline seems fine Some scenes and action scenes were pretty good. It is your typical Airbnb nightmare. But there was absolutely no point. Why would you go to such great lengths to rent out an Airbnb/rental then plant videos, audios, traps, etc....all to not blackmail the people you're doing this to? The audience believes this was personal. Why would you video anyone (in the very personal way he did) unless you were going to use it for entertainment, leverage or blackmail? The killer didn't need to go to such great lengths to kill all these people. He could've easily just killed them without all those gadgets and traps. He makes one of the couples believe that blackmail is the only motive. The audience believes it too.
Why would you turn off the camera to kill the owner of the rental unless you wanted the footage to look like the renters killed the owner? What would be the point of the character thinking he killed the owner if the result is not blackmail? Only to kill everyone at the end and not care about blackmail or entertainment or anything. It's basically about some sicko killing people and having the edge to do it by knowing their every move. So all the drama leading up to what you think will be blackmail or something is actually nothing. You're expecting a combination of the drugs, the affair, the disposing of the owner's body (who they didn't actually kill) to mean something. It doesn't. It doesn't mean a damn thing. It's just some weirdo who's stalking people he wants to kill. Total let down.
The Humans (2021)
Worst Movie in the History of Movies!
We watched this movie on vacation as something to do on your downtime. We figured Amy Schumer was in it so it couldn't be too bad. We were so wrong. We kept waiting for something to happen. We kept waiting for some kind of plot. We kept waiting for some kind of excitement. Nothing happened. I mean, literally, nothing happened. It was like someone taped a dysfunctional family's Thanksgiving dinner, forgot to edit it and had a contest to tape the most boring family on the planet. It's complete garbage. We can't think of one movie, not even Sharknado, that is worse than this movie. You wouldn't want to watch this movie even if you were on a deserted island with nothing else to do. Still in shock how bad this movie was.
Dexter: New Blood (2021)
Just So Good. Dexter Must Live On with Subsequent Seasons!!!
Dexter New Blood is a solid 9. It is not as good as the original Dexter but still very good. Way better than the 8th season of Dexter. Dexter is one of those shows that is just so good, even their inferior writings are pretty good. So, if the powers that be are reading this, there are 3 things you should not do with Dexter. 1, do not kill off Dexter. 2, do not kill off Dexter. 3, do NOT kill off Dexter!
The only thing worse than killing off Deb is killing off Dexter. Please don't tell us that some Upstate New York cop (in only a few weeks) solves the case Miami Metro could never solve in 15 years. Please don't tell us that there will be a scenario where Dexter has the choice between prison or death. Why? Because the show is just so good.
There should be subsequent seasons of New Blood. The show is just too interesting and mesmerizing to think it's over for good. Bring back Dexter for as many seasons as possible. If you don't, the powers that be are complete idiots.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Why Bother?
Why bother if the movie is rushed, poorly produced, directed and the saddest sequel since...I can't think of a worse sequel. It's just not The Matrix. It's a sad, rushed, poorly written/acted version of The Matrix. The real Trinity doesn't even show up until the end of the movie. Neo looks like John Wick for most of the movie except Wick is more interesting. There's no real purpose and the plot is ridiculous. Almost anyone in the world could've written a better storyline. A big waste of time. A horrible movie. Matrix fans deserved a lot better than this.
La Brea (2021)
The Most Unrealistic Show on the "Planet"
The show had potential. The idea was good, but the execution sucks. Even if all this could happen, you're not going to have a mother of a dying teen spend all night looking for antibiotics to save his life while stalling for hours and more concerned about strangers! Any mother would move heaven and earth and disregard strangers to save her son. Cars, people, electronics, etc., were barely impacted by a miles++ long fall. People going out of their way in dangerous situations like "proper burials" when they can easily be eaten alive by sabertooth tigers. Unrealistic. Easily finding a wedding ring in the exact place it was "buried" thousands of years ago and coming to the conclusion that your wife is living in a parallel Los Angeles 10,000 years ago?? Yeah, I come to that conclusion every day when I find buried things.
I know this is not supposed to be realistic but if you're going to do a fictional event, at least make the characters and events sync up to what would really happen. Luckily there's a clairvoyant who can see everything from the other side of sinkhole. Plus doctors, lawyers, police officers with guns, anthropologists and construction workers in the sinkhole. Really? People listening to music on their iPhones when they would be saving the battery life for whatever unknown experiences they're up against. Bottom line is that the execution couldn't be worse. They're taking an unrealistic situation and making it so unrealistic it's not entertaining anymore. It's just the unrealistically stupid following the colossally stupid.
Cobra Kai (2018)
Too Good. Complete opposite of what you are expecting.
I don't write reviews. This is my first on IMDB. I thought this was going to be corny, cheesy, poorly written and acted. I didn't even start watching it until last week, May 2021. But the reviews reeled me in and I'm so glad they did. I love the way they intertwine the flashbacks of Karate Kid I & II seamlessly into today's storyline. They bring back nearly every character (main or otherwise) fitting beautifully into the storylines. It is amazing to see because no other series or movie has accomplished what they have accomplished. It works flawlessly. Without those flashbacks and original characters, you wouldn't feel the same nostalgic goosebumps. They didn't follow the path of a corny Karate Kid sequel. They took the time and energy to make it a different, highly developed show. The fact that Daniel LaRusso became a car salesman and Johnny Lawrence is the more likable character is mine boggling. I hated that guy. Now I love that guy. Cobra Kai makes the impossible, possible.
It's not all about karate which is a good thing. The original characters make this so priceless. They even brought back Daniel's mother and his nemesis from Karate Kid II (Chozen). And you end up liking Chozen!!! Who would've thought? Between the original characters, music, the deep development of every character and masterfully playing out the lives of Daniel and Johnny (as well as Miguel - Johnny's student and Robby - Johnny's son) you feel so invested. You are not a spectator. You feel like you are part of this priceless experience. In the moment, you are part of the Cobra Kai family. You actually want to date Johnny. Well at least I do. Until you have given this series a try, you'll never understand how great it is. It's not something you can describe with words. It's an uplifting, explosive, emotional, nostalgic and edge-of-your-seat experience that you didn't expect or see coming. At times, you feel like it's happening to you. It does help that I grew up in the 80s. I hope there's 12+ seasons of Cobra Kai. The best show on television.
