Liborio (2021)
A great cinematic exploration
Being very aware of the historical and cultural sources from which this film is based, I attest that the final result of Nino Martinez's debut is a mesmerizing portrayal of Papa Liborio, a real historical figure with mystical dimensions. The cinematography is superb with effective natural light experimentation, the acting is very well blended with the storytelling and the story itself is full of significant nuances. Considering the deficient and low quality filming of most movies from the Dominican Republic, this one is a bright light of hope for Caribbean cinema of more depth and sensitive exploration.
Vers un monde altruiste? (2015)
A much relevant documentary for our times
I'm surprised that this documentary available in Netflix has not been reviewed. Although deceptively simple it presents extremely relevant information regarding the nature of human beings, convincingly demonstrating that the rationally selfish and greed motivated animal that our mainstream economic system teaches we are is pretty much wrong.
This doc shows plethora of high caliber scientific researchers that are at the cutting edge of showing a more hopeful social and economic pathways. Taking a step forward from similar documentaries, this one is not simplistic or naive in it proposals, even tough it strongly portrays a more positive human capacity for altruism and compassion, it also shows what seems to be natural shortcomings and limitations we as humans are born with.
This should be a required viewing in all classes of economy, politics, psychology and any subject that deals with human nature.
