Oliver Beene (2003)
Ho-hum
Unfortunately I was pretty disappointed with this show. The comedy was mediocre, the characters were not very likeable, and the acting seemed pretty forced and OVERLY exaggerated. Who knows though, since it's only the first episode maybe the show will improve--but I don't think I'll watch again to find out. . .
Hannibal (2001)
Slow moving. . .
I have to admit, I was kind of disappointed in the sequel. Not that it couldn't of been a great story, but for the fact that the story line moved so slowly and certain things just didn't make any sense . ..
SPOILERS 1. Cannibal out on the loose and no one seems really interested in nabbing him??? 2. Hannibal cuts off his own hand and this is not publicized to help capture him???
The most interesting part of the movie was the last 15-20 minutes when the gore begins. I have to admit, I was begging Dr. Hannibal to eat Ray Ray Liotta's character! What a slime ball!!!!
My recommendation??? Watch the entire film to satisfy your curiosity and form your own opinion. However, if you find yourself getting bored, fast forward to the end of the film and watch the last few moments when the action begins.
Choices of the Heart (1983)
Not Bad
This wasn't a bad movie, although I do admit that I have problems getting past Melissa Gilbert as anything but "Half Pint" on Little House on the Prairie.
What really makes it intriguing is the fact that this is based on a true story. Jean Donovan, by no means, was a perfect person. She struggled with her romances, her wealth, and most importantly her relationship with God. In order to come to terms with herself and to also make a difference in other peoples lives, she decides to become a missionary and goes to El Salvador. There, she faces a corrupt government that will murder any who oppose them. . . .SPOILER AHEAD . . .Unfortunately, once she discovers that this is what she was always meant to do with her life, she is raped and killed along with two other missionaries for simply trying to help and also for being an American in a foreign country.
One of the key moments in the story is at the end, when she talks about questioning God and she finally understands that he has always been there with her. Of course, we can only speculate that she really felt this way, but it makes a nice ending to the story and also inspires all that are eternally optimistic.
Down to Earth (2001)
(((Yawn)))
This was mildly amusing. Nothing really that special. It almost reminded me of "Coming to America" (great film) in the fact that here's a guy who wants the girl who's trying to better the world (in this case save a hospital). The only difference is the later was funny, this is not. Even if you're a Chris Rock fan, I don't think anyone will enjoy this turkey.
Bringing Out the Dead (1999)
Great Treatment for Insomnia
Unfortunately, I can't say many positive things about this movie. Overall, I thought it was extremely boring. This is in all honesty the first movie I ever walked out on when seeing it at the movie theater.
One of Patricia Arquette's worst roles! Very wooden and unfeeling throughout the film (nervous acting with hubby maybe???).
I give it a 3/10
Go Fish (2001)
Here, have another deep fried bacon wrapped mozzarella stick!
this is one of my favorite new shows! ok, not so cool kids trying to be popular is not a new concept, but the situations and the comedy are truly unique!
personal favorite episode??? andy has joined the wrestling team and wants to bump out the other kid in his weight class, a foreign exchange student who looks pretty punny, but who can kick his a**. so, how does he eliminate the competition??? he invites the kid over and stuffs him full of "cream of butter soup", "deep fried bacon wrapped mozzarella sticks", "fudge cake", and hostess "ding dongs" to help him gain weight and bump him to a new weight class.
you should really check Go Fish out.
Arlington Road (1999)
Boy was I surprised!
OK, sometimes things will fly right over my head, but I was really surprised by the ending of this movie. Don't worry, no spoilers here, I don't want to ruin it for those who haven't seen the movie yet.
The movie starts out with Jeff Bridges (Michael). A school teacher with a beautiful girlfriend and a great son. Everything's just wonderful-- right? Wrong! Seems his wife was killed some years ago, and he just can't seem to move on.
In comes his squeaky clean neighbors played by Joan Cusack and Tim Robbins (in some of their best performances as Oliver and Cheryl). Michael begins to form a close bond with them until he suspects Oliver may be a terrorist.
Are his neighbors as squeaky clean as they seen, or is something more sinister hiding behind their cheesy smiles??? Watch it and find out!!!
8/10
Casino (1995)
I can watch it over and over and over. . . .
I love this movie! I can watch it over and over and over again and still find something new that I never noticed before. Robert DeNiro is wonderful as the casino mgr and the "golden jew". Who could be more evil than Joe Pesci putting a guy's head in a vise??? This is Sharon Stone's best role ever playing the hustler and a junkie who cannot give up her loser ex-boyfriend Lester Diamond. Definetly a great movie to see.
Gaby: A True Story (1987)
A truly moving picture
This movie was very inspirational, sad, and moving. It was amazing to watch someone so limited physically effect the lives around her and do so much with her own life. I, of course, had a huge lump in my throat when her and her true love Luis could not be together. Really makes you reflect on your own life and realize how much more you could be doing with it.
