Sleepaway Camp (1983)
Extremely Under-Rated 80's Slasher!
Sleepaway camp is one of the most underrated slashers of its time. Director Robert Hiltzik pretty much made a movie that was well before its time.
Spoiler Alert: I wont give away the story, but Hiltziks concept of the killer is awesome. Throughout the whole movie you think you know who is killing everyone, but little scenes like the curling iron scene really throws a wrench into the gears. Ricky is clearly seen in the doorway. The ending really packs a punch that will make you say "what the..?" The end is greatly done and I have to give major props to Hiltzik for pulling it off.
Anchor Bay has released this classic on DVD, I suggest you go and check it out. Its well worth it. od I miss the 80's slasher flicks. They dont make um like the used to anymore.
Troll 2 (1990)
Joe D'Amato and Claudio Fragasso give us one of the best movies ever made!!
What can I say about Troll II that has not already been said. All my fellow Nilbogians on here who also have a great love for this movie understand. Its just the average "Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer" junkies who hate this masterpiece. From Italian masters Joe D'Amato [Buio Omega, Anthropophagous] and Claudio Fragasso [Hell of the Living Dead, Rats, Zombie 3] comes a movie that is so bad in terms of acting, FX, and everything else you can possibly imagine, that is is GOOD! Troll II is a classic! From Grampa Seth telling little Joshua the story of Peter, all the way to the edge of your seat finale with Joshua and his poor mommy, this movie ROCKS! Being a die-hard fan of Italian gore [Fulci, Lenzi, Soavi, D'Amato, etc..] I had to check out this flick. I heard so much bad stuff about it, and i wanted to find out myself how bad it was. I finally managed to find a copy [actually I own 3 VHS copies now] and watched it in awe. Horrible Acting, K-Mart FX, Green food, Cheesy dialog, Banjo Music [UGH!]. I was hooked! They need to bring this bad boy out in the US on DVD. I will buy it! Where else can you hear lines like "They are eating her, and then they are going to eat me, OH MY GOD!!!" CLASSIC!
If you like cheesy movies, then this movie is one of the best. You cant help but being hooked to this movie. Does it suck? Yes. But in the best ways possible! Troll II is a classic!
Spider-Man (2002)
Sam Raimi at his best!
Spiderman is a great movie that stays true to the comic. Sam Raimi has always been a brilliant director, starting with Evil Dead, Evil Dead II:Dead by Dawn & Evil Dead III:Army of Darkness. I wont go on about the movies plot since everyone on here has already. Just go see the movie. One of the beg points of the movie is that the greatest actor of all time, The king himself, Bruce Campbell, has a role as the ring announcer. The characters themselves are believable and well acted. I cant stand Kristin Dunst, but even she was very good. Toby McGuire played the nerdy guy perfect and was the perfect casting for Peter Parker. Bravo Sam Raimi. You are the dirtector of the fastest money grossing movie ever made. Im proud of you my Evil Dead friend.
I will comment on the fools [especially the fool in the UK] who talk about the presence of American Patriotism in Spiderman. If you dont like it, too bad. Spiderman is a American made movie, Sam Raimi is an American, and he wanted to put in something patriotic. The end credits when Spiderman hangs from a flag pole with the american flag flying still sends shivers up my spine. Spiderman the movie is basedin New York, If you all recall the Twin Towers trailer that was later taken off TV. Spiderman even wears red, white & Blue. The movie itself is a symbol of America and what we are. So if you have a problem with the USA and great New Yorkers, then tough! Go see the film and quit being babbling.
Zombi 2 (1979)
The Greatest Zombie Movie Ever Made!!
I wont lie, Lucio Fulci is my favorite horror/gore director of all time. He was, is and always be the greatest horror/gore director, even though he was given the true respect he deserved when he was alive. His work is a gorehounds dream. You can look no further then City of the Living Dead, The Beyond, New York Ripper, Cat In The Brain & this little Gem, Zombie.
When Dawn of the Dead was released in Italy as "Zombie", Zombie Flesh Eaters was dubbed "Zombie 2". The movies have no relations. If you are into gut munching, eye-gouging, shark/zombie fights and some of the coolest liiking zombies ever seen in a movie, then Zombie is for you. This movie is simply amazing. Unlike Dawn of the Dead, which is anotherzombie movie masterpiece, These zombies look like they are dead, no green face paint here, Gianetto did a amazing job on these guys. They walk with their eyes closed and breath heavy. Great stuff! Don't bother getting the older wizard video version, grab the Anchor Bay version in all its wide-screen glory and see what a real Zombie movie is all about. This movie was before its time!
If you are a gorehound, you must own this god-of-a-zombie-flick! I saw this movie back in the early 80's and was changed forever [I was a kid, what do you expect]. To this day, I still rank "Zombie" as one of my favorite movies of all time. Zombie is one of Lucio Fulci's best films ever. Its just sad that it took so long for people to finally respect the great Fulci. Thank You Anchor Bay!
[One small note about what someone from Tampa Florida posted on a earlier review, Dario Argento "DID NOT" make this film! Please check these things before you write reviews. Also, There is a Zombie 1, Its the Italian name for Romero's Dawn of the Dead, but other then the name, neither movies are related.]
Virus (1980)
Give Bruno Mattei props, this movie rules!!
I am a huge gore-fan. And my favorite director is Lucio Fulci. I have seen gore from Fulci to Argento to Raimi to Itenbach to Schnaas to Romero to Lenzi to etc... But for some reason alot of people hate movies with the name "Bruno Mattei" on it. Hell of the Living Dead has been put down and made fun of by so many. Why? I saw "Night of the Zombies" years ago on VHS and was hooked. The movie, written by Claudio Fragasso [Zombie 3, Rats, Beyond Darkness, AfterDeath, etc..] is a complete rip off of Dawn of the Dead, with Goblin Music [taken from Dawn of the Dead & Luigi Cozzi's Toxic Spawn], a swat team, etc. So its a rip off, Who cares. The movie is awesome. Where else are you going to see a swat member dress up in drag, only to be eaten by zombies. The characters are hilarious! My favorite member is the swat member with long brown hair ["Guess I'm not on the menu after all!"]. The dubbing is so bad it rules! The acting is hilarious and fun. The story is basically the same "Government project gone wrong" story. FX are cheesy, yet fun to watch. This title is pure cheese, but great cheese!Thank god Anchor Bay decided to pick up some Bruno Mattei flicks and re-release them on DVD. This and Bruno Mattei's "Rats: Nights of Terror" are now out, and they are definate "Must Have" titles. If you want a serious zombie flick, look elsewhere. But Hell of the Living Dead rules! Now, if Anchor Bay can pick up the Lucio Fulci/Bruno Mattei "Zombie 3" rights and put it on DVD!!
SpongeBob SquarePants (1999)
Spongebob rules!!!
This is the best cartoon on TV today. It reminds me of the good old days of Ren & Stimpy. But Spongebob Squarepants surpasses that cartoon. The characters are fun and you cant help but care for them. I will agree that this cartoon is somewhat adult oriented. One episode is about Spongebob and Patrick reading the trash dump outside of the Crabby Patty resturant. SOmeone wrote Squidward is a *%#$. Spongebob and Patrick repeat the word eped out with sounds of dolphins]. My favorite episode is when Squidward and the gang do music for the Bubble Bowl. The ending is so hilarious and genious that it must be seen to believe. I love this show, and my daughter Daria [Age 3] also loves the show! Spongebob rules!!
Intruder (1989)
The last great Slasher movie from the Evil Dead boys!
This is one of the last great American made slasher movies. About a supermaket that is getting ready to close down. The whole staff is working night shift to get the store ready for mark-down. When the cashiers angry x-boyfriend shows up and threatens her, all hell breaks loose and everyone starts getting butchered in inventive ways. If you dont rent the US version and look at the cover of the VHS tape, you will be surprised of who the killer is. But if you do get the US version, for some reason they stuck the killer right on the box art.. WHY!! They cut out the gore scenes and then give away the killer as well! Scott Spiegel, who co-wrote Evil Dead 2 and was also in the Dead Next Door, wrote and directed this and put most of his friends in it. Sam Raimi has a part as the butcher and his little brother Ted is the produce guy. Both of these guys have small parts but steal the whole show. Sam & Ted Raimi play their parts perfect and are hilarious. You will even hear Sam Raimi sing the song that the college kids sung on the way to the cabin in the first Evil Dead movie. There is also a cameo from the main man, Bruce Campbell at the end. The FX are greatly done by the KNB boys [before they formed KNB]. You MUST see the Uncut version and not the butchered US version to enjoy this movie in the way it was supposed to be enjoyed. Scott also uses various camera shots to add to the suspense. I must also add that Danny Hicks [Jake from Evil Dead 2] plays a great part in Bill the co-owner of the store. Why isnt he in anymore films?!? He is great! Intruder is the last of the good american slasher movies. A must see!
Seytan (1974)
Oh boy, where do i begin
Just from the box art, you know your in for a treat. This movie made me laugh so hard i almost choked! They follow the Exorcist from the start to the end. This baby must have been on a budget of $100. The FX are horrible, the acting is stale, and they play tubular bells 800 times in this movie! But it is so bad its hilarious and i highly recommend it. Pure cheese! One part during the exorcism, the room is all lit up, when the girl levitates, the room becomes dark [to hide the wires i guess] and when she comes back down, the room is dark again. Its in Turkish though, but if you want it dubbed, just dub the Exorcist audio over the whole movie, i am sure it will fit.
Wild Zero (1999)
One of the best Zombie flicks in a long time!
This movie has it all, a great cast, zombies, UFO's, heavy punk music, and over the top gore. Guitar Wolf and his band rule. If your a gore fan you must see this awesome movie. Tons of gore and crazy stuff. A Must. Also check out Bio-Zombie and Junk from Asia. Seems the Asian and German market are taking over the zombie movies and making very good ones at that.
Black Past (1989)
Olaf Ittenbach's First shot of gore, with shades of Evil Dead
I am a huge Ittenbach fan, I love Premutos and Burning Moon was pretty cool as well. Ittenbach himself stars in this movie. The version i have is not subtitled and is in german, so i have no idea what is going on. Its starts in the past with some guy killing a little girl, later on Olaf finds this mirror and it somehow starts crazy stuff. First his girlfriend is hit by a car and she later comes back to life. This is the part of the movie where you know Olaf is inspired by Sam Raimi's Evil Dead. He tries and tries to kill her again, but she keeps coming back. Olaf finally turns into a sort of demon and kills everybody off. There is even a cool scene in hell, while not as graphic as Burning Moons Hell Sequence, it still has some cool gore scenes. If you like Gore, then check this movie out, as well as other Olaf Ittenbach movies . Don't expect to come away from this movie knowing the whole story unless you know german. Great movie!
Paura nella città dei morti viventi (1980)
Fulci is god, a must-see for gore lovers!
What can i say, while some put this as not one of Fulci's best, i disagree. City of the Living Dead is one of my favorites from the master Lucio Fulci. Not only does it have John Morgan as a weirdo and great music from Fabio Frizzi, but it has tons of gore, including the death scene of John Morgan and Michele Soavi watching his girlfriend puke up intestines. Its not Zombie, but its still a great Fulci flick!
