Ruby Sparks (2012)
One of the best romcoms in years
26 July 2012
In an age of cheesy, predictable, and sometimes simply stupid romantic comedies, let's thank the romcom gods for the work of brilliance known as Ruby Sparks. The films stars Paul Dano as a man with a a huge amount of genius when it comes to writing fiction and an equally large amount of ineptness when it comes to relationships. He finds strong inspiration in a dream about a girl and quickly writes many pages about her, only to find the living, breathing, figment of his imagination in his kitchen. Although she seems the perfect girl in every way (he made her that way, after al), having a girlfriend that he can totally control with a few strokes of a keyboard comes with a price. As a writer myself, I have found a few books and movies in which I look at the basic idea of the plot and wonder, how did the writer come up with that? This was one of those plots. On top of it, brilliant quirkiness of both Dano and Kazan plays up the wonders of this film. To some this review up in two words: see it.

The Worst Movie in the World
31 January 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I have seen what hell is like, and it's watching this movie. Lindsay Lohan plays Mary. (She calls herself Lola.) Mary is an extreme drama queen. So she is crushed when her Mom moves her from New York City to a suburb. She spends the entire movie trying to compete with mean girl, Carla. First, Mary tries out for the school play and then she tries to get into the final concert of everyone's favorite band, Sidarthur. In the end, Mary gets everything she wants because she is the so-called "protagonist" of the movie. Lohan plays this part amazingly well, mostly because Lohan is a drama-driven slut in real life. That's just my opinion, but I know that a lot of people agree with me. Mary is just about as horrible a role model for young girls as there is. Just as bad as a lot of mean girl antagonists like Carla or Sharpay from High School Musical, if not worse, a lot worse. This is a very bad movie to show your daughters because it gives them horrible impressions about appropriate behavior for girls and it teaches them completely horrendous values about life and getting what you want. Overall, this is the worst family film I have seen in my life.

Bored me to death!
19 January 2009
I'm a high school sophomore who was looking to go to see this movie in theaters. It looked cool and interesting. I couldn't have been more wrong. The plot might sound unique at first, but it is not at all. It is just another stupid movie about teens getting drunk and falling in love. I have ADHD, so I have trouble watching movies that are too long. But whether or not this was long, it was seriously painful to sit in the theater. It was so boring, that after about 45 minutes, it came to the point where I really didn't care about the characters. It is a movie that I vow to never watch again except under extreme circumstances. But one of the reasons why this film annoys me so much is that someone might judge the teen genre based of of this movie and hate it, when there are so many good ones out there like Charlie Bartlett, Super Bad, and Juno. This is one movie that I can't stand and I know that I' not the only person who feels that way.

Outstanding
3 January 2009
When I first heard about this movie, I thought it would be a dumb, overplayed sci-fi flick. But it wasn't that at all. This film was about a man who needed love, and found despite the most unlikely circumstances. This film was about the choices we make and how it affects us as individuals, our lives, the people around us and their lives, and the rest of the world. Its message was clear: life is a precious gift that must not be wasted. Another one of its important morals was that everyone is different; no one should be treated badly because of their differences. This movie had amazing moral character and showed a great knowledge of what life is about.

Titanic (1997)
Amazing
23 February 2008
I fell in love with this movie the first time I saw it. But what I sometimes get annoyed at (and Man in the Iron Mask had the exact same problem) is that everyone is oohing and awwing at Leo's hotness when they don't realize the philosophy behind it. The real message of this movie is that if we knew what would happen tomorrow, there would be no point in living. We just have to take things as they come because there is no predicting what tomorrow will hold. So basically, caution is life's curse. Another philosophical message of this movie which is also political is that we have no control over the lives we're born into. We just have to make the best of them. I love this movie and I wish others would appreciate it the same way that I do.

Incredible

This is one of the greatest movies I ever saw. I don't know why so many people hate it. But what I sometimes get annoyed at (and Titanic had the exact same problem) is that everyone is oohing and awwing at Leo's hotness when they don't realize the philosophy behind it. One of the themes of this movie is the difference between good and evil. The movie shows that what makes a person good or bad will be forever unknown. Another theme of this movie was the bonds between family and how they can never be broken. I love the characters in this movie. Every single one had an amazing story behind them. Whether it was Louis, Philipe, Athos, Portos, Aramos, T'artangnan, the mother, Christine, Raoul, or even minor characters such as Lt. Andre or the king's advisors. Their stories involved suffering, hope, and love. That is true with real life as well. So even if this story is absolutely fiction, it captures the essence of the pains and the joys that come with the gift of life.
