The Marvels (2023)
Mediocre, not awful
The hate for this has definitely been excessive and seems to have little to do with the quality of the movie. The movie was okay but forgettable. There wasn't anything terrible enough to warrant the hate for it.
I assume it's just general Disney backlash combined with the main characters all being female, and that's a tough one for redpills to swallow. I think for normal people, though, there's nothing objectionable here. Fairly typical Marvel affair at this point, unexceptional in every way.
If you're still a fan of the MCU, this movie won't impress you at all, but you certainly won't hate it.
Bye Bye Barry (2023)
Retired in his prime?
This was a pretty good documentary and it's great to hear directly from the man himself about why he retired and why he did it the way he did.
One of the only things that bothered me is how they kept speaking as if he had many good years left to play at that level, but he was 31 when he retired. Anybody who knows anything about professional football knows that a running back who turns 31 is nearing the end of his career. This is especially true of quick, shifty guys like Barry Sanders.
Do I know that he wouldn't have been the exception to the rule, able to keep taking rushing titles after his 35th birthday? Of course not, he was a tremendous athlete. We can never know.
It was still a very enjoyable documentary, and is a must-see for any fans of Barry Sanders, the Lions, and the NFL.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Pretty good!
Anybody who's whining about this movie being a disappointment clearly has rose tinted glasses on. The original Matrix was a true masterpiece in every regard. The following two unplanned sequels, not so much.
This new entry is certainly better than the second and third installment. It also opens the door to a new trilogy, and I am ready for that.
If your expectations aren't excessive, you'll enjoy this. No, it's not as good as the original, but neither were the other two entries in the original trilogy.
F9 (2021)
This movie was terrible, like every other movie in this franchise.
I find it weird that this movie upset so many people. It's the same trash they have been cranking out from the start, just dialed up to 11. These movies were never good. This isn't really any worse than the rest of this garbage franchise. It's laughably bad.
Run Hide Fight (2020)
Mediocre Die Hard clone.
I'm not sure why conservatives are rallying around this movie like it's some incredible movie about the 2nd Amendment. It has absolutely nothing to do with it. This movie is literally Die Hard in a school. It's somewhat entertaining as long as you're not expecting anything great, because it isn't great. Critics have panned this movie because they pan every mediocre action movie, which is exactly what this is.
If you're in the mood for a mediocre action movie about a hostage situation, you'll probably enjoy this, but nobody will be talking about it in a month and it certainly won't be nominated for any awards.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Almost every negative review is absurd.
This movie is not a 1 or 2. It doesn't rank with the worst movies ever made. These are horrendous exaggerations, and the people who wrote them should be ashamed.
This movie was, however, mediocre. Not nearly as good as the previous movie, but it isn't even the worst superhero movie. I hope everyone already k own well enough to ignore all 1-2/10 and 10/10 scores. These are not honest people, or they are truly incapable of accurately rating anything.
I feel strongly that this is probably about 5/10. It's forgettable but not awful. Kristin Wiig was entertaining, Gal Godot was good. Chris Pine probably shouldn't have even been in this and his inclusion is a little weird, but I suppose he did well too. Pedro Pascal did what he could, but his character was pretty bad.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Excellent
Most people apparently expected this show to simply rehash The Next Generation. I can speak for everyone with any sense that it's wonderful that it isn't that. This is a more mature show which keeps some of the important themes of TNG. It has a clear plot, though those with short attention spans may struggle to follow it.
Honestly, I'm certain all of the negative reviews are simply because it's not TNG. I doubt those people would have been happy in any scenario, unless they brought back the full cast and remade every episode, scene for scene. The imdb rating is pretty appropriate as of the time of this review(8.4)
I'm sad to see Patrick Stewart looking so old, the man is a treasure, but I'm really glad to see him return for another go in the Trek universe.
