It's great to see all these people in our history as "real people". Gillian Anderson is outstanding.. I'm also learning facts about these First Couples and reminded of history I had forgotten about.

West Side Story
(2021)
Very pleasantly surprised
7 February 2022
The ensemble numbers are amazing. This is not the same Maria that you are used to. Anita is much more sassier too and I saw it on Broadway with Debbie Allen. Ansel is the perfect Tony, he handles his solos much better than anyone else I've heard. This new script and additional scenes will make you forget what you've known before, especially for the character of Tony.
This movie will be the standard when someone refers to West Side Story from now on. Tony and Maria are much more flushed out and this Maria's voice actually matches the actor. She's amazing.
The new character of Doc's widow is a nice addition. Having Rita Moreno cast is the perfect "wink and a nod" to the original Broadway and movie. The scenes with her and Tony are sweet (she's a master class in acting).
This "Officer Krumpski" is soooooo much better. The past arrangements I thought were annoying and petty, this one is meatier and not as juvenile.
"I want to live in America" number is worth the ticket price alone, it will fill the entire screen and the new choreography gives this song the attention it deserves.
Riff has been given more dialogue and his character you will feel badly for. Bernardo is gruff and harder and you almost won't.
This is not a remake. Even if it takes most from of the Broadway production, it goes much further than the last film script. As I said before "this is the new standard when someone refers to West Side Story".
